[Greatest soundtracks from old school games]

Soul Blazer has by far my favorite soundtrack from the classic era of gaming. It's funky and exciting, and while it can't compete against games like Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger in terms of production values and orchestration, it's a marvelously under appreciated jewel.

[What should a noob read/watch?]

I'm going to suggest Ranma 1/2. It's what got me into Japanese Anime and Manga, and was at one time (about 1994/95) considered the quintessential "New to the Party" property. I still fondly remember a time when, just prior to the explosion of the popularity of Dragon Ball Z in the states, Ranma 1/2 was pretty much the most well known franchise in American fandom. I hear it's still hugely popular in France and Mexico.
