I think there's been way too much "The villains that BREAK THE BAT" attempts in recent years to the point where nothing can really out-do not only Knightfall, but The Cult in which Batman seriously did get mindfucked. And that was a 4 issue mini right before Jason Todd died. That being said, I really love Morrison's Black Glove/R.I.P. saga because it was so different. I also like Snyder's Night of Owls storyline, although that has more to do with the Batman issues than the crossover tie-ins. But I feels ya. James Jr. is a great villain because he has more of a connection to Gordon than to Batman. (Although he did figure out that Dick Grayson was the Dark Knight.) I like Hush but feel as though his first story was his best. Paul Dini did great stuff with him however in Streets. By and large I don't like the new thrown-into-the-ether villains, mainly because they mostly come from Tony Daniel. Enigma, daughter of Riddler, and Dollmaker were both atrocious, and although some are colorful like Mr. Toxic appears to be, it's like who cares anymore.

Great episode fellers. Going through the Eccelston run for the first time, "Dalek" is by far the best and most interesting so far. Thought Tom's massive rant on Rose was too long and tangental towards irrelevant things, but those are his thoughts.

I did. I honestly felt that we were given a lot of her character and shown how layered she can be, especially in comparison to Hawkeye. I have a disconnect with most of the viewers, because apparent;y a lot of people got more out of Hawkeye than I did after seeing the movie. Besides being brainwashed for half of the film, I felt he was good but nothing memorable. Black Widow on the other hand I felt like we got to know a great deal. Her mysterious background, what drives her, her personality. If she were depicted like she was in Iron Man 2, then I'd agree with everything said. But honestly I thought she was a really well rounded character in Avengers. Yeah she was hired cuz she's hot as hell, and she's not an amazing actor like Downey Jr. or Tom Hiddleston, but she did fine with what she was given. Maybe the lack of an accent is what's having people shrug and say there's not much to her...

I don't know if that's fair. Just because she's female doesn't automatically mean she was picked for sex appeal. There's always been a female in the Avengers, and her character was chosen. Plus, BW had a lot going on inside her head during the Avengers movie, moreso than Iron Man 2. I empathize with her annoyance.

Great episode guys. The Alan Scott talk was interesting in how split it was. Do you think the gesture in itself was good, or was changing a character's orientation a facetious thing to do in terms of progressive storytelling in comics? Speaking personally, in the lead up to the identity revelation when people were wondering about Wally West, I felt conflicted in that in didn't believe in the earnestness of Robinson's story. At the end of the day I fell down on the fact that it is a new continuity and that there's no reason it has to be a bad thing.

I think the darker coat is another sign on how influenced Moffat seems to be of the McCoy era. It's a coincedence to be sure, but in his third season, McCoy got a darker coat.

Wow that's terrific of him to do. Very nice. In regards to Rose as a character, it wasn't until after talking to Tom Deja one night that it ever occured to me that she was selfish and unlikable. I just took her at face value all throughout her tenure on the program. Watching the first season on Netflix has me almost hypnotically looking out for ways in which she can be perceived as a bad person. Right now I'm still of the same mindset that, like Dan says, she might not be a great person she's still a strong character. Personally, no matter her faults I can't get myself to be disgusted enough by her to not enjoy the show. I never especially loved her, but she's decent at least.

I can barely register this as continuity because so little of it makes sense. From the conceit of Bardock going back in time to him becoming Super Saiyan, the whole thing was a big fan wank. It's fun if you don't at all take it seriously.

It sounds like it'll be lighter and more humor-oriented like the DC Nation shorts have been rather than the sitcom nature of the original series. By that I mean the original show balanced crazy hijinks with dark material.

LOL Ultimately I think Snyder wrote a solid story. However it is in conjunction with the depressing, almost hatefully cynical DC that has butchered and tortured their characters for nearly ten years now to where everybody has a tragic origin or background. Freeze always did too, but stealing him of his sympathy makes him more hateful and lost in the flow of hateful Batman villains.

It looks good to me. Green Arrow, done right, should be a really easy show to do. He has archery skills and some trick arrows and gadgets. I hope CW doesn't eff it up and go against such a simple story. Just make Ollie an uber liberal dude and don't stray too far from the basic idea of him.

I was a well done story, and to be honest even though they included the animated origin into the comics, Freeze was never portrayed to be as cold (pardon the pun) or unemotional as he was in the DCAU. He was always a yelling, angry SOB. So part of me does like that he's made less sympathetic.

So with Batman Annual #1, Mr. Freeze has a new origin. ...I don't know how to do the Spoilers tag, so I'll just say that this might piss people off. It's a twisted take on the B:TAS origin.

No doubt, after that Grumpy Old Fans segment for episode 500 and now this I'll instantly listen to anything these to do no matter what subject it is.

Ehhh...it's a comic book film, even with the term "realistic" thoughtlessly bandied about towards these recent movies. I mean I admit to having an instant aversion to people calling Batman insane because everything he does is calculated towards making his war on crime a more proficient one. People only really started calling Batman crazy because he became more anti-social after Dark Knight Returns. And that's only brought up mostly because he's slightly less social than Superman. If he's crazy, what does that make Green Arrow? A guy dressed like Robin Hood with an Arrowcar, Arrowplane, Arrow cave and a sidekick with even brighter colors than Robin? In any case I respectfully disagree with you. As dark as the character can get...this is still a BATMAN movie. The character still fights supercriminals and dresses up in a cape. There's nothing realistic about the movies, they're just more believable. There's a core fantastic relm which Nolan always goes back to because he recognizes the audience he's making movies for, at the end of the day.

To be completely honest, I personally think a somber or bad ending to Rises would be counter-productive to the very idea of Batman. It's been said a lot that TDKR will harken back to Batman Begins. When you consider that film's ending, the threat of escalation was there, but the promise of Batman saving the day was what it ended on. TDK ended more somberly with Batman taking the rap, but it still ended optimistically with Gotham's soul saved by his actions. This movie's going to be called "The Dark Knight Rises", not "The Dark Knight Falls". Were the movie to have Batman's actions ultimately be viewed as a detriment to Gotham City, I would find it ultimately disingenuous not just to the idea of Batman but what the first film predicated the series to be about.

God, THIS SO MUCH. Also, with these trailers I'm convinced of the movie's basic adaptation of the Batman story for this particular film. Batman Begins was essentially Year One. Dark Knight was Long Halloween/The Killing Joke. This is Knightfall, straight up. Knightfall/Knightsend to be precise. But the Bruce/Selina scene is another adaptation from Long Halloween. Thinking about it, one thing that could be compared to "Rose" as a return of a beloved geek character to the masses is the 89 Batman movie. Quality aside, the way the chraracter is presented to new audiences without an immediate backstory given in the first 90 seconds and just watching him do what he does is pretty cool. I love the shot of the TARDIS as Rose walks away from the burning department store. It's inconspicuousness to the untrained eye makes it pretty theatrical in a neat sort of way.

In all of the fan ragequits I've experienced firsthand (One More Day, Miles Morales, Identity Crisis, all three main Batgirls, DC New 52, Before Watchmen) I'm wondering if any of them were a violent as what Dan talked about when Eccelston's departing was leaked. I don't recall DEATH THREATS, but I may have missed them.
