slothian
An idea shamelessly ripped off from Chris Johnson on Twitter, but here's my favourite films per year so long as I've been alive (much thanks to Flickchart):1985: Back to the Future1986: Labyrinth1987: Robocop1988: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?1989: Licence to Kill1990: Goodfellas1991: Terminator 2: Judgment Day1992: The Muppet Christmas Carol1993: The Wrong Trousers1994: The Shawshank Redemption1995: Seven1996: Trainspotting1997: Men in Black1998: The Truman Show1999: Fight Club2000: Memento2001: The Majestic2002: 28 Days Later2003: School of Rock2004:Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind2005: Batman Begins2006: Children of Men2007: Hot Fuzz2008: Let the Right One In2009: Watchmen2010: Inception2011: Bernie2012: Skyfall2013: Gravity2014: Guardians of the Galaxy2015: Mad Max: Fury Road2016: Hail, Caesar!Pour scorn as you will, or alternatively, submit your own. Mr Mockery
Having seen this both Gillian and I have compiled lists and we've only had 6 films that crossed over. Mainly because she has a more wider ranging taste than I. I have tried to not have too many films from the same franchise for variety sake. 1977 - The Spy Who Loved Me1978 - Superman1979 - Alien1980 - The Blues Brothers1981 - An American Werewolf in London1982 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 1983 - Return of the Jedi1984 - This is Spinal Tap1985 - Back to the Future1986 - Biggles1987 - The Untouchables 1988 - Die Hard1989 - Batman1990 - The Hunt for Red October1991 - The Rocketeer 1992 - Aladdin 1993 - Groundhog Day1993 - Groundhog Day1993 - Groundhog Day1994 - Ed Wood1995 - Clueless 1996 - From Dusk Till Dawn 1997 - L.A. Confidential 1998 - The Big Lebowski 1999 - Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me2000 - Gladiator 2001 - Ocean's 112002 - The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers2003 - Kill Bill volume 12004 - The Incredible's2005 - Mr and Mrs Smith2006 - Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby 2007 - Hot Fuzz2008 - Hellboy 2: The Golden Army2009 - Sherlock Holmes2010 - Machete 2011 - X-Men First Class2012 - The Avengers2013 - Pacific Rim2014 - Guardians of the Galaxy2015 - Creed2016 - Ghostbusters

dc20willsave
1985: Clue (This is that movie that I can put on at any time, smile, laugh, feel like a kid again. Nearly went with The Goonies for identical reasons)1986: Labyrinth (Tough decision. Almost wanted to go with Big Trouble in Little China.)1987: Moonstruck (Tough year. I love Moonstuck more than A Nightmare on Elm St. 3.)1988 - Who Frame Roger Rabbit (Loved it as a kid, love it now. A very odd part of me wanted to say Space Mutiny instead.)1989 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Should be The Little Mermaid for jumpstarting The Disney Renaissance but, well, fuck it! Was almost Heathers.)1990 - Dick Tracy (I'm a fool for good production design.)1991: Beauty and the Beast (Nearly no contest.)1992: Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (I had trouble coming up with something for 1992 so... Twin Peaks.)1993: Addams Family Values (Almost purely for Christina Ricci)1994: Pulp Fiction (Interesting fact: Forrest Gump won best picture that year. I know, right? What the hell?)1995: Showgirls (It's favorite movies, not best movies. Shut up, that's why! Otherwise, it would probably be Waiting to Exhale.)1996: Scream (In a lot of ways, if I had never seen Scream, I would not be the person I am today. On of a handful of movies I can quote perfectly.)1997: Jackie Brown (Because Pam Grier kicking ass is never not fun.)1998: Pleasantville (Relevant and well acted.)1999: American Beauty (Look, I know it's the bad answer but it's still just such a well put together piece of cinema for me.)2000: The Emperor's New Groove (In a lot of ways, I just love it a ton. It may have been the end of the Disney Renaissance but still a classic.)2001: Ocean's 11 (I like a good heist movie. The style and editing of this one elevate it.)2002: Chicago (Interesting fact: I saw Chicago in the theater like 8 times.)2003: Kill Bill Vol.1 (Going in, I did not intend this thing to have so much Tarantino on it.)2004: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Odd thing: The Lord of the Rings films are better but there was something I loved more every year.)2005: Brokeback Mountain (Fuck Crash.)2006 Pan's Labyrinth (Once again, I'm a fool for good set design.)2007: Hot Fuzz (One of those movies2008: The Dark Knight (Still probably the best Superhero movie of all time.)2009: Inglourious Basterds (Oh. More Tarantino.)2010: Inception (One of those movies I can't watch idly. Always gets all my attention.)2011: The Muppets (I'm a Muppet of a Man.)2012: The Hunger Games (I wanted to go with The Cabin in the Woods but I had to ask what movie I've seen the most times or I would just throw on.)2013: Pacific Rim (I really ran on empty for 2013.)2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (I was torn between this and Guardians of the Galaxy. Decided just on which one I'd rather watch for the heck of it.)2015: Mad Max: Fury Road (Outside of being beautiful to look at, the editing, cinematography, writing, and acting is phenomenal.)2016: Zootopia (I'm saying this now because most of the films released at the end of the year are things I have not seen yet. Will update later.)

I was also a little surprised at how many genre films I listed, though I probably shouldn't have been.

slothian
I have a feeling that Toland's will be lengthy.....You are the literal worst. It's also testament to this forum that everyone's been pretty respectful about the lists of others, without the inclination to say things like "and how many films in 2007 DID you see exactly, Donovan?" or "Wallace & Gromit over CGI dinosaurs, you British idiot?!?". Me aside, this is a classy establishment!
dc20willsave
I was going to point out that The Wrong Trousers was a short film but then I realized nothing here said it had to be a feature length film. Also, it's a very enjoyable short film.

Donomark
Having watched Spider-Man 3 a couple of months ago for the first time in a few years, I enjoyed it then more than I ever had, and I never disliked it to begin with.
