Dread
Boys in the Trees: review forthcoming, but wow. Rocky: good, but not as great as a lot of people say. To note that this won best screenplay is terrifyingly stupid, even moreso when you think about the other films of 1976. The boxing is the shits and the characters are cardboard. Rocky II: essentially a remake and a sequel of the first. It's done slicker with better boxing, more for the characters to do and genuine laughs. Great script. teenalphabro
Happy Death Day: Eh, it's alright. Didn't really do much with the concept, if I'll be honest. Films Watched:
S-T
I liked Happy Death Day, but (as always) I was amazed at how much they get away with in a PG-13 movie. I remember a time when that would have been R-rated. It reminds me a lot of Butterfly Effect, and much like that movie it is never explained why the protagonist has the power to travel through time. dc20willsave
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Absolutely one of the best animated films I've seen in the last few years. Scrooged: Bill Murray is awesome and a Christmas Classic that was ahead of it's time. The Sound of Music: It's saccharine as all heck but, at the same time, it works. Plus, it gave us the timeless GiF of Christopher Plummer ripping up a Nazi flag which is majorly iconic. Dread
Intensive Care: review forthcoming Jackass: The Movie: watching this at 10:30 at night with my sons and their friends with a drink in my hand is basically everything I thought fatherhood would be in 2001, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Can't think of a thing wrong with this one. One of the most beautiful-looking films I've seen in a decade. EVERY superhero movie should be animated. This and Big Hero 6 put the rest of the Marvel movies to shame. Features: 174 Shorts: 43 Documentaries: 12 Rewatches:
Donomark
Aquaman: Thoroughly enjoyed it. It's the most kid-friendly of the DCEU, and why wouldn't it be? It's Aquaman! This felt like if the best of the CW had a budget. James Wan and friends clearly enjoyed this character and adapting him to the screen, and while this doesn't exactly break any new ground, I enjoyed it about as much as Wonder Woman to be perfectly honest. Dread
Aquaman: really fucking fun. The fighting and action in this is just so next level. In Marvel movies, it's trying to manage TV-style fight choreography. In DC films, it's like Gods and Titans are clashing. There's no comparison. Momoa is great. Heard is fucking delightful. Really enjoyed Patrick Wilson, especially in the Ocean master armour. Black Manta was fucking cool to see in live action. I want a whole Queen Atlana movie because that whole sequence was amazing. Ant-Man and The Wasp: so much better than its predecessor that it's ridiculous. Loved it. dc20willsave
The Star Wars Holiday Special: It's terrible but it's tradition for me to watch it. Jingle All The Way: If I wasn't already a socialist... Die Hard: A great movie. Still say it's not a Christmas movie but I'm beyond coming down on people just because they want it to be. Bumblebee: HOW DARE YOU NOT SUCK!!! Seriously, it's far from a terrible film but I enjoyed it. dc20willsave
The Christmas Chronicles: Cute, non-offensive, and interesting at times. Outside of Kurt Russell and one cameo, it's basically a Freeform Christmas movie though. Beauty and the Beast: It was on the TV and I felt like, "Sure, why not?" The Night Before: I watched this last year and loved it. I watched it this year and still found myself smiling a ton. Definitely my new favorite recent Christmas movie. Dread
Goon: this was really fucking fun. A modern take on Snapshot. A bunch of great American actors doing ridiiculous Canadian accents. Sean William Scott delivers a remarkably great performance for a comedy. There's levels there. Goon: Last of the Enforcers: like a lot of R rated comedy sequels, they went further blue, less nuanced and made things hyperbolically unrealistic. Too bad. I agree. I enjoyed it immensely. Saw it twice already. I know I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did if @dc20willsave didn't share the story of the disaster that was the Chinese Avatar knockoff "Empires of the Deep." I wonder if the production crew took some ideas from the trailer.

Dread
Here's the final tally for 2018 Halloween: Oldest wanted to watch the new Halloween movie, but youngest wanted to watch the original first. It's almost a perfect film, Cundey's photography is top-notch and the film is tight as hell. My only issue is the weird shooting near the end. It's always bugged me. The stunt doesn't look right at the cinematic geography and editing is off for the first shot. Halloween (2018): review forthcoming, probably, but please can we have more Judy Greer. *sigh* Features: 184 Shorts: 43 Documentaries: 12 Rewatches:

dc20willsave
Aquaman: Very fun. It's not a perfect movie and is kind of dumb but still so very enjoyable. Final Thoughts on the Year: I didn't make it to 200 films this year like I did last but I feel like I got more out of what I watched. I'm not sure if I'll be going for 200 next year but who knows. The year is still young. Films: 110Repeats: 8MST3k/Rifftrax Assisted: 7Made For TV: 4Documentaries: 1Straight to DVD:
