JackFetch
I've played almost every Zelda game(some of tham many times), so I picked up the Minnish Cap and a friend of mine asked if all the games take place in the same world. I assumed they all took place in the same world thousands of years apart from each other. I just assumed Link, Zelda, and Gannon were all reborn to do battle once again. Alot of the games have the same basic layout on the worldmap. The mountains are usually on the top of the map, either middle or left. The name Hyrule is always the name of the land or town. Windwaker would be the Waterworld version.
Chops
I might be wrong, but I belive each game is suppose to be a different telling of a "timeless story".

drqshadow
Check this out. It explains it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaCEd4nwUP0 They forgot the CD-i games! I think the entire series is best understood in Final Fantasy terms. They're completely unrelated, and there just happen to be a few recurring characters and creatures that carry over between them. Guest
Yeah, it's complicated, since some of the Link's are the same characters, but others are different people. Consumers don't seem to care, so neither does Nintendo.
Morphine Jim
I really don't give a shit. I like being able to just jump into each game without any continuity bogging it down. It helps I've never gotten round to finishing a Zelda though I just see it as different takes on a common legend, almost perhaps as if these games never really ever strictly happened, and they're just a collection of different stories loosely based on these one legendary theme. Pablo Molinero
Next thing you know, they'll be asking about Mario Bros continuity...
Mr. Keith
I've always wondered how Mario became a plumber. They should make a game chronicling his struggles to get into the profession.
TheRetreater
Oh man, the cross between Yoshi's Island, the old DK games, the old Mario Bros. (as in, not "Super" Mario Bros.), the Super Mario games, all the sports with time travel involved (baby mario and luigi with old mario and luigi!)... Somebody needs to sort out Mario's continuity! How will I sleep!

TheRetreater
brilliant I see an epic, sandbox videogame somewhere in that holy manuscript. take a hint game developers go green
NightAngle04
Its always the same Ganondorf in the games he's in, but aside from a couple of instances Link and Zelda change over the years. Though if you are looking for a starting point Ocarina is supposedly the first game in the timeline. It doesn't really matter though. annericelover
Here's the chronilogically confused retrospective on the history of Zelda, this includes the first Nintendo Wii Zelda game. Done by The Angry Video Game Nerd. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29488.html You'll have to confirm your birthday, but than you'll see it. It runs a good 19 minutes

Guest
Link's Awakening is a sentimental favorite, but I can admit that Link to the Past is a better game.
Molly
Ih, I might be the only person that prefers the three big 3-D Zelda's (Ocarina, Majora's Mask and Twilight) to any of the 2-D.
Guest
With the exception of Majora's Mask, I HATED the 3D games, especially Wind Waker aka Link's Sailing Adventure.
Molly
...I liked Wind Waker, but it's got nothing on the other three, Twilight being my personal favorite.
