JackFetch
The Marvel Studios Overview Presentation--other than giving a great look at how their films are made and what they have in the works--reveals that Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2: X-Men United) is writing the screenplay for the big screen adaptation of The Avengers. Marvel describes the property as follows: "The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful super-hero team in the world." I figured it's time to start with the Avengers news since it was officially announced. JackFetch
MTV talked to Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, who says that a movie based on The Avengers is not likely to happen: While agreeing that a Marvel's Team-up movie would be exciting, Quesada was quick to add that the chances of that actually happening were pretty astronomical. And while he wouldn't shed any detailed insight into its feasibility, he did offer up his own dream roster for an Avengers big-budget flick. The Avengers was still listed on the just-released updated slate for Marvel. Zak Penn was hired in 2006 by Marvel to write a script for the pic. Why hire a script writer and announce it, then say it probably won't happen?

JackFetch
‘Iron Man’ Helmer Jon Favreau Wants To Assemble ‘Avengers’ Flick “Avengers Assemble!” Marvel’s mightiest team join forces to fight foes no single superhero can withstand. But if Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Ant-Man thought Count Nefaria or the Krees were formidable – wait’ll they get a load of the Countless Nerds and the Geeks, who will dissect every announcement and decision from the film like it was the word of God. Bring ‘em on, says “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau, who, not only thinks that “The Avengers” is “a great idea,” but even told MTV News that he might like to direct it. It’ll be a long and winding road for Favreau if he does. Unlike how Warner Brothers is handling “JLA” – where audiences are being asked to accept different actors for Batman and Superman, as well as a whole legion of new characters like Green Lantern and Flash - Favreau insists that Marvel will only go ahead with the project if and when all the individual characters get their own story. It’ll be worth the wait, Favreau claimed, calling this way not only more impressive and formidable – but more consistent as well. “I wonder if the tone of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ is going to be similar or different than [’Iron Man’],” Favreau questioned. “And ‘Captain America’ is a twinkle in Marvel’s eye right now. And ‘Thor’ and ‘Ant Man.’ “[but] in the case of Marvel they’re pretty clear on wanting to do it with the actors who’ve established the roles or to not do it at all. That’s what they’ve said to me,” he continued. “I think it’s a good idea if you use the characters established in the other franchises that then come together for an event. I don’t think they would do it like they’re doing ‘Justice League’ where it’s a whole different set of actors and a whole different take on the world.” http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/01/03/iron-...avengers-flick/
JackFetch
The release date is July 1, 2011 http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?c...=0&id=54651 That means in a six week span we will have a Captain America movie that leads into the Avengers movie. Then we will get the Avengers movie. I think my head may explode.
JackFetch
Here's a bit of 'Avengers' casting buzz that's sure get fans talking. Eva Longoria as Janet Van Dyne, aka The Wasp. Oh No They Didn't celebrity gossip and paparazzi blog snapped some incriminating photos of the 'Desperate Housewives' star that suggest she may be taking on the part. Eva Longoria seen leaving the Marvel offices in September, holding a stack of Avengers comics. In the photos, Longoria is seen in the parking garage of the building where Marvel Entertainment keeps their Hollywood offices. Presumably, Longoria has just met with the filmmakers. Clearly visibile in her hands a stack of Avengers comics. Now we know the 'Avengers' movie is supposed to include Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor and Ant Man, each of which character is or will be top-lining its own movie before 'Avengers' comes out. But the above roster makes for kind of a sausage party and Ant Man's sugar mama The Wasp has been part of the roll call since issue #1. So, if Eva was meeting with Marvel and the meeting was about 'The Avengers' then it's pretty easy to imagine Longoria wearing the wings of the winsome Wasp. Her tough-but-pampered 'Housewives' character Gabby isn't too far removed from the long-suffering Wasp after all. Does this mean she'll be appearing in Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' movie as well? http://www.comics2film.com/index.php?a=story&b=35573 This would have been great casting 5 or 10 years ago. Maybe she can pull it off. She does look like her in the picture.
Guest
Man, could she be holding those comics out in a more rehearsed fashion?
Molly
God, I hope not. The fact that they're looking into Janet is good, but, I don't dig Longoria.
Stavros
That could work. They'll have to use cgi for the scenes where she's supposed to be regular sized but otherwise I can't see a problem.

tglancy
Given that she is carrying a copy of new Avengers and a recent annual, is it at all possible she was there for Spider-Woman, since I don't think Wasp was in that particular issue of New Avengers? Stavros
Now I'm going to spend ages trying to work out which of the Desperate Housewives is a Skrull or not. edit: I'm going to need some help, I only know Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher, and she was Lois Lane so she can't be a Skrull, its the wrong universe. elnino14
News: UK, October 14, 2008 - Iron Man scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have told MTV Movies that all the events in the various Marvel films are leading up to the superheroes battling The Hulk in The Avengers movie. Fergus said: "I hope The Avengers embraces that. You don't want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where's the fun in that? Let's break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it's based on love and friendship and that's always the worst thing to have turn bad - someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in." "I personally like when good-guy characters have to fight each other," he went on. "Good guys going against good guys who both believe in an issue is way more interesting than a villain clearly into evil and I like when former friends become committed enemies." Fans will remember that the finale of The Incredible Hulk ended ambiguously [spoiler Ahead], with Ed Norton smirking slightly just before a self-induced "Hulk out." The very end scene of the film also seems to be setting up this storyline, with General Ross talking to Tony Stark about the green-skinned menace. All will be revealed when the movie hits our screens in 2011. Source: IGN So what does everybody think about the plan? I honestly love the idea. Delete
Is this going to be a somewhat smart Hulk or "Hulk Smash" Hulk?
Aaron Robinson
It's hard to say. If The Incredible Hulk is anything to go by, Banner is starting to become a little more “in tune” with his Hulk powered self. So they could be pushing towards the idea for a somewhat smart Hulk. dc20willsave
Jon Favearu is no longer directing.
KnightWing
Jon Favearu is no longer directing. As far as I know, he was never confirmed in the first place. Still, that does make things a little uncertain as to how it will all play out, now that we know it won't have Favreau's Iron Man-style lighthearted tone. Stavros
There's no bigger badder foe for the team to face than the Hulk. Making him a team member makes no sense anyway, this way we get a little complexity out of it all. It looks like a fairly tight team too. Captain America, Iron Man, War Machine, Black Widow and Thor, with Loki as a probable instigator since he's on the cast list too.
JackFetch
Jeremy Renner says he's up for Hawkeye. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=26369
Missy
I don't see it. Plus, at 38 he feels too old to play Hawkeye. If this is the team starting out, I want a young, brash Hawkeye, not a guy knocking on 40.
Dread
If a 67 year old Luke Perry can play Dillon on 90210 then Renner will be fine for Hawkeye. I like him.
Missy
The only picture I've seen Renner in is 28 Weeks Later, and I hardly remember him. So though he might be a good actor, I can't say, and have only his look and age to go off of.
