Missy
Until I can secure a well-paying, fulltime job, I need to get sensible about my money and comic-buying habits. Since I can no longer afford to try new titles on a weekly basis, the review series will have to change its frequency to either fortnightly or monthly. Sucks, but that's how it goes. Not sure when the change will take place, but it will be soon.
drqshadow
That's understandable, man. I'm going through a similar trimming-down process, myself. The column was a good read while it lasted, and I'll still enjoy it no matter how infrequently it appears going forward.
Dread
Totally understandable. I'm currently on the hunt for titles to drop. I've got a few on the chopping block right now.
Missy
To illustrate what I mean, here was my initial DCBS order for October: All Star Superman #7 Astonishing X-Men #20 The Authority #2 Batman #660 Batman #661 Bullet Points #2 Daredevil #92 Civil War: War Crimes Conner Hawke: Dragon's Blood #2 Immortal Iron Fist #2 Incredible Hulk #101 Iron Man / Captain America: Casualties of War Irredeemable Ant-Man #3 Maintenance #1 Mouse Guard #6 New Avengers: Illuminati #1 newuniversal #1 Nightwing #127 Ninja High School #145 Outer Orbit #1 Previews Punisher #42 Robin #157 Superman #659 Tranquility #1 Ultimate Fantastic Four #37 Ultimate Spider-Man #103 Ultimate X-Men #77 Ultimates 2 #13 Uncanny X-Men #481 What If...?: X-Men - Age of Apocalypse What If...?: X-Men - Deadly Genesis White Tiger #2 Winter Soldier: Winter Kills Wolverine #49 Wolverine Origins #9 Women of the DC Universe: Batgirl bust Wonderlost #1 X-Factor #14 X-Men #194 Counting the bags, boards and fortnightly shipping, that totals $119.11! That's just way too much. So I've cut it down to this: Astonishing X-Men #20 Bullet Points #2 Daredevil #92 Iron Man / Captain America: Casualties of War Mouse Guard #6 New Avengers: Illuminati #1 Previews Punisher #42 Robin #157 Ultimate Fantastic Four #37 Ultimate Spider-Man #103 Ultimate X-Men #77 Ultimates 2 #13 Uncanny X-Men #481 What If...?: X-Men - Age of Apocalypse What If...?: X-Men - Deadly Genesis Wolverine #49 Wonderlost #1 X-Factor #14 X-Men #194 The new total is $48.29, including fortnightly shipping but not bags and boards (gotta cut corners somewhere). Hell, if it weren't for the two books I'm ordering for Jenny (Wonderlost and Mouse Guard), the two issues of What If...? (I'm a huge What If...? fanboy), the Iron Man / Captain America CW special and Previews (which I order for Earth-2.net: The Show), my total would be $35.16. And at that point, with so few books, I'd probably stick with monthly shipping, brining the total down even further to $31.16. But it is what it is: $48.29, which is sooooo much better than $119.11! It's getting to the point where I'm ready to drop everything except Astonishing X-Men, Daredevil, Punisher, Robin and (maybe) X-Factor. Thanks for understanding, guys. I love writing the piece, so I hope to continue, just on a slightly different schedule.
drqshadow
I'm surprised you've stuck with Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men for as long as you have, honestly.
Missy
UFF was awesome under Millar and Land, and I had hoped the quality would remain high after the transition to Mike Carey and Pasqual Ferry -- both of whom I like. Unfortunately the creative shift has been too jarring (especially on the art front), and the story just isn't doing it for me. UXM I read on and off. Right now I'm "on" because I like what Kirkman's doing with the title. But it too has to go.
