Bento
While I haven't read Stephen King's original series I have to say that this first issue of The Dark Tower: The Gunsliger Born" was excellent. They really put together the perfect team in Peter David, Jae Lee, Richard Isanove and Robin Furth. It's been a long time since I've picked up a comic that melded story and art so well. It had a great pace and I'm really excited for the rest of the series. Has anyone read the novels? King is generally very on and off for me. drqshadow
I thought the artwork was absolutely beautiful, probably some of Jae Lee's best stuff, but just could not get into the story. It felt awfully slow, word-heavy and dull upon my first read and I'm debating removing it from my saver.
Bento
Really? I never felt the dialogue slow down or drag. The art and story complemented each other perfectly. I was so drawn in by the art that each panel was exciting. When it comes to comics I'm usually more a fan of the art than anything else so I could just be blinded by Jae Lee... but on a second read it was still awesome. kariyanine
The Gunslinger (Book One) and Wizard and Glass (Book Four) are the two slowest of the series but I can assure you that the story does pick up and those that stick around will not be disappointed.
