JackFetch
It looks like the Wachowski brothers ("The Matrix" trilogy) are filming their Speed Racer adaptation with all green screen sets. Empire Online talked to star Emile Hirsch, who broke the news: "Nope, it's all green screen," Hirsch told us. "There were no sets, just us and the green background. I haven't seen anything of it finished yet, there was a lot of trust [in the Wachowskis] involved. It's going to be crazy. Was the monkey real? Yes." The Warner Bros. release, hitting theaters on May 9, also stars Christina Ricci, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon, John Goodman, Kick Gurry, Paulie Litt, Roger Allam, Ji Hoon Jung, Melvil Poupaud, Richard Roundtree and Christian Oliver. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=39524

Chops
it was about the only they could go with a live action version, still looks like crap, though.
JackFetch
The trailer is up. http://movies.aol.com/movie/speed-racer-2008/28066/main I've never actually seen the cartoon, so I don't have any preconceived notions about what it should look like. I think that looks badass.

Aaron Robinson
So I saw the trailer in cinemas while watching Sweeny Todd. I… I honestly don’t know what to say. I mean, it looks absolutely nothing like I thought it was going to be, and to top things off it looks like it’s going to be somewhat serious
drqshadow
God, some of those green screens are really bad. The lighting doesn't match up at all... Otherwise, I'm uncertain. Half the time it looks really badass and cool, the other it looks ultra cheesy and eyeball-roll dumb. It can't decide if it wants to be F-Zero or Hot Wheels. Stavros
All I could think about watching that trailer was Nick Hogan.

Dread
I saw the trailer a week ago and my retinas are still recovering. I will not go see a movie like that. It's just fucking gaudy. Ick. Story doesn't matter if it's so offensive to look at. Terrible.

JackFetch
"Speed Racer" seems stuck in the slow lane. The Wachowski siblings-directed film opens Friday in about 3,600 theaters, and it has been considered one of Warner Bros.' tentpole releases of the summer boxoffice season. But the PG-rated "Speed Racer" -- a big-screen adaptation of the Japanese cartoon of the '60s and '70s -- has been tracking unimpressively in prerelease surveys. Boxoffice derbies aside, Warners execs suggest there's no need for "Speed Racer" to open huge. Most of its splashy effects were done with relatively affordable green-screen technology. So the $100 million production will pencil into profitability roughly when its domestic gross hits a similar nine-digit sum, and even a $25 million bow could put it on track to deliver that. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...00cdeea3288185c

NightAngle04
It made 20 mil opening weekend, and was pummeled by Iron Man, with Narnia opening this weekend I see this being a megabomb.
