Iain Softley was working on a film about the Beatles in Hamburg so he decided to compile an alt-rock supergroup to record the soundtrack (similarly to the current Hendrix biopic, none of the original tunes are used in the film, only the covers the Beatles used to do). The group has Greg Dulli from Afghan Whigs, Dave Primer from Soul Asylum, Dave Grohl, Mike Mills from REM, Thurston Moore from Sonic Youth, Don Fleming from Gumballs (I don't know either). If they recorded the whole Beatles catalogue, I would be a bigger Beatles fan. Here's their one and only performance at the 93 MTV Movie Awards,

So, when I interviewed Alan Robert a few months back, he dropped the bomb that Life of Agony (one of my all-time favorite bands) would be returning to the festival circuit this summer after a decade or so broken up. Here is there first full set together. They sound pretty fucking good considering this is their first show. The only difference in the band line-up is that the singer used to be Keith Caputo, and now she's Mina Caputo.

Edit: true metal greatness at the 9:40 mark where Mina fucks with the crowd's head about her transgendered status.

Beyond being a cover of Slayer's "Angel of Death" on the banjo, it's actually really good. Also, the breakdown beginning at 1:35 thereabouts is one of the sickest things I've ever heard. And he might actually outdo both Hanneman and King's solos on this one. Jeeeezzzzzz....

So Mastodon are a metal band, so obviously when they release a video for my favorite song off their new album it features occult imagery, lizard people, a giant goat-man and...twerking? Best. Video. Ever!?

Tremendous, and somehow very appropriate for metal?

Not sure if I've posted this before, but I ran across it again: one of the greatest singers of all time mixed with one of the best heavy metal songs of all time.

And now Metallica and Stevie Wonder:
