What got you into video games?

Mega Man 2 was the game that did it for me, I use to have so much fun playing that game over and over again. It was a pain in the ass to play since I was so young at the time and couldn't do things as easily as I can do now. But I loved the game play and the characters looked extremly cool. Hell, I even made some goofy little couple page comics with guys like Mega Man and Bubble Man(Which I'm certain were GOD awful if I still had them around).

So what was it that got you all into video games? And yes, it doesn't have to be a particualr video game.

My father got me into video games. He used to play Mighty Bomb Jack and Solomon's Key on the NES and I was hooked from the moment that I was old enough to play.

My mother helped to continue my NES obsession, much to her dismay, when she bought a game that she was sure to put me off video games, called the Legend of Zelda. I haven't stopped playing video games since.

Mega Man 2 was your first game? Man, I feel old.

Um... what got me into them? Hmmm... good question.

Two of my earliest (and few) childhood memories involve video games. The first is watching my dad play some racing game on the Atari (I'd know it if I saw it), and then watching my mom play Kaboom!. So they've always been a part of my life. Also, my dad would take me to Haunted Trails (an arcade) nearly every weekend after the divorce. Then, for my seventh (?) birthday, even though they were divorced, they split the cost of an NES. And I still remember the first game I ever played on my NES was The Legend of Zelda. The gold cartridge was freaking awesome, 'cause I used to seeing the grey Mario one at my buddy's place.

Hell yeah! That cart rocked ass. My parents were in the midst of seperating at the time that my gaming addiction flourished. It was just a distraction at first, but then Mario and LOZ and....it's like crack.

I said it got me into video games, doesn't mean I never did play games before that.

I did play stuff on the Atari and the old NES such as Pac Man, Forgger, Super Mario Brothers and a bunch of others. But I mostly just watched or would play them very briefly. Mega Man 2, however was the first game I really truly enjoyed on a video game console and was what got me hooked.

My mistake. (I still feel old.)

I should a run a tournament to name the best Mega Man under-boss ever. Hmmm... kinda like the Oratory's Greatest Wrestler one. Both would have 64 men. Coincidence? I think not.

I'd be backing Shadowman. Hoo-hah!

My cousins got me on to videogames. Whenever I was at their place I'd play Bubsy or Mario World. I remember the day I got the SNES as well. Big box which had a SNES, 2 controllers, Mario All-stars and a gameboy. Holy fuck, I wish I could relieve the pure joy of opening it. I'm definitely getting my kids into videogames (if I ever have them).

My parents were never that cool to be playing video games. It was actually my older brother that got me into playing video games. As for games, the first Super Mario started it all, Super Mario 3 and Mario World kept it going, and Final Fantasy VII rekindled it and also got me addicted to RPGs.

Which Zelda game?

The original gold cart one. She got it for like 3 bucks. My mom rocks at finding deals.

That tank game!!! I love that shit!

I just marked out at the memory!

Are you talking about combat for the Atari 2600? You could play as tanks, biplanes and jets. I don't remember if there were any other vehicles.

When I was like 6, my grandparents got me the NES, with the Mario/Duck Hunt game. I was immediately hooked.

That's basically the same for me, except it was my parents, and not my grandparents. I might have been like 8 or 9, though. I didn't even know what video games were before I played Mario/Duck Hunt. Then I got Sonic 2 on the Genesis, years later, and that ensured I would die alone.

Funnily enough, I was never really into games, mostly because I'm a somewhat below-average player. I had a Megadrive which was neato, and we had a NES, which I think, ironically, came after. In my early years I was addicted to the Commadore 64, games like Dizzy and the like providing me with hours of entertainment.

I picked up a PS2 as a casual thing about two years ago, just because I wanted a DVD player and wouldn't mind the occasional game. It wasn't until I played Dynasty Warriros 3 that I really got interested. Basically, the game company Koei got me hooked with their action and strategy games and I've been playing ever since.
