Can't wait until April 23 for some fresh Doctor Who? Well, you can get your fix right now in this brand-new Doctor Who minisode, which features not one but TWO Amy Ponds. And it's a timey wimey, wibbly wobbly thing.

Entitled "Space" (part 1) and "Time" (part 2), the special mini-episode is written by none other than Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat himself for a charity event called Red Nose Day (also known as Comic Relief) in the U.K.

If you've ever wanted to see how two Amy Ponds would act when pitched together in the same space-time continuum and how two TARDISes inside one another would work, this is your chance! Plus you also get to see two Rorys and two Doctors as well.

For those fans of the novelisations of the classic series, BBC Books has announced that it is reprinting 6 of the early novels.

http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2011/03/dwn180311132508-bbc-books-classic.html

Here's the covers (under the spoiler tabs cause they're quite big), using the original artwork by Chris Acchileos. I'm amused by the fact that (presumably because they're mostly bigger and well known names) the people doing the introductions get a bigger credit than the original authors...which means that Terrence Dicks gets a bigger credit doing an intro for "Cave Monsters" than he does for having written "The Auton Invasion" or "Abominable Snowmen".

and more book news. Fans of Douglas Adams (like Dan) might be interested in this tweet from SFX magazine

BBC Books are to publish a novel of Douglas Adams #DoctorWho story "Shada" (unfinished due to strikes) in March 2012 - author Gareth Roberts

SFX's full story below. Looks like this will be the third of the more adult scifi aimed, Doctor Who books after Michael Moorcrofts book last year, and the heavily rumoured Stephen Baxter second doctor novel.

The title for the fourth episode (and the one that Neil Gaiman wrote) has been leaked, and it's a doozy.

The Doctor's Wife

Spec, anyone?

This ay or may not mean anything, but that was famously the title of a false episode JNT once put up on his board to see if there was a leak in his office. Sure enough, within a week it was reported that there was going to be an episode with that title in a fanzine.

Whilst we're waiting for Season 6 to arrive, riddle me this, New Who fans (in spoiler tags, just in case):

1) If Donna had to have her mind wiped because timelord/human hybrids can't work, does that mean Rose's boytoy clone is bound to explode 10 minutes after the TARDIS disappeared?

2) Why is it that the man who wrote arguably the best multi-episode story of Season 2 (Impossible Planet/Satan Pit) hasn't written for Who since?

3) Why don't I like the New Earth/Face of Boe episodes? Gridlock is the best of them, but does it say anything that it limits the FOB/cat people, other than Father Dougal?

Cheers!

To your first point, Ian, I too have pondered this and I honestly believe RTD didn't think it through. That said, I can rationalize it. Doctor 10.2 is "part human," in that he's genetically a Time Lord, save his single human heart. Since he still possesses a Time Lord mind / consciousness, he won't "burn up." Conversely, Donna became "part Time Lord" by taking on The Doctor's mind. Because she's till human, though, her brain can't handle his consciousness, the way he perceives time and the universe, and all of his knowledge. It's very similar to what happened to Rose when she looked into the Heart of the TARDIS; both women became Time Lords, essentially, and would have died from it had The Doctor not intervened.

That said, there is a perverse part of me that wants to write a bit of fan fiction where 10.2 explodes right before he and Rose finally have sex.
