Gravity Falls: Finally got around to really watching this. I regret not having started sooner. I'm almost through season 1 and it is such a fun show with an actual mystery arc going on. Between this, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I believe we are living in a new golden age of Children's animation. Just go ahead and try the show. You will not regret it one single bit.

No context for you.

I love the female voices on Gravity falls Kirsten Schaal and Linda Cardellini just seem to be made for their roles.

UK netflix is the gateway drug that got me into old TV shows, US Netflix is the hardcore stuff I'm injecting directly into my veins.

Currently watching one of the most underrated sci-fi shows of my lifetime Sliders, and it's cracking. All these little clues that he's actually jumped dimensions, like red traffic lights meaning go or JFK being alive, it's really cool. Haven't seen the show since it's original run, but I already know I'm going to get hooked hard.

Actually three episodes into Sliders and it's not as good as I remember. Gonna stick with it because nostalgia but I'm starting to think I was more invested in the concept than the execution. It was one of the few sci-fi shows at the time that wasn't Star Trek in any way whatsoever.

Edit- I take it all back. Episode four is the world where the British won the revolutionary war! Two points- how is that in any way dangerous to the characters? And how is this not paradise? Watching this episode is going to be like a peek into the minds of what Republicans think socialised medicine would do to the states.

Ha! Apparently without the inspiration of the American revolution, the French, Chinese and sexual revolutions never happened. Because the British were the only ones uptight about sex? Not to mention all the slaves would have been freed a lot sooner. Well, thirty years sooner, we're not exactly history's good guys either.

And they end the episode with the future king announcing the installation of the Bill of Rights in the colonies because of course they did. They actually had a discussion about removing the right to bear arms and decided to keep it! Apparently since 1776 the English monarchy repealed Magna Carta and gained the right to autonomous rule? What a barking mad episode.

It's very noticable when they arrive on a world dressed as hippies in episode 3 but they don't get to the hippy world until episode 5. Checking out the history of the show it's clear that it's one of the most interfered with by networks but at the same time I'm unsure that the people running it were that great themselves.

Pretty conveniant that they visit worlds where each character is famous for one reason or another, be it Guerilla leader, Sheriff of San Francisco, Academic elite or the King of Rock and Roll. Really hoping the second season gets away from that pattern.

Season 3 becomes a total mess and by the Sci-fi era, the show really starts to fall apart. I'm all for continuing plots on episodic television but on a show like Sliders, it almost seems wrong. It would be like if Quantuum Leap suddenly had Sam having to fight Future Nazis who were using their own Leap Program to change history so CyberHitler will rule supreme. It just changes the entire tone of the show.

I.e., the greatest show that ever existed.

Just watched Kick-Ass 2. It was pretty predictable, but not terrible. Some of it makes no sense though. I think I know why Jim Carrey did what he did. He's embarrassed by the scenes with him using a gun. The movie itself is no more violent than many other movies. I think after Sandy Hook he couldn't stand the fact that he will be seen holding a gun to people's heads.

I also decided to give Arrow a second look. I'm still meh about it. I don't get how the most famous guy in town, who is all over the news doesn't get recognized when face to face with people. His face isn't even covered.

He's always in the shadows or at an odd angle, so there's never a clear look at his face. It's kind of a shaky idea, but considering that Oliver spent years on the island using stealth and the shadows as a tool, it makes sense that he wouldn't go, "oh, now I need to start wearing a mask because people are going to be looking at my face all the time." But now other masked heroes are showing up in Season 2, so maybe he'll start wearing one. They definitely have set up an arc where Oliver is going to become more like the Green Arrow of the comics; he'll probably start wearing the mask and using the name at some point.
