Xbox Live voice censoring

Microsoft filed a patent that could keep you from getting cussed out by 12 year olds while playing Halo.

An input audio data stream comprising speech is processed by an automatic censoring filter in either a real-time mode, or a batch mode, producing censored speech that has been altered so that undesired words or phrases are either unintelligible or inaudible.

Is there any word on if this is an optional feature, or something that might become a blanket feature? I have no desire to listen to Beavis comment on my lack of skillz, but I'm not crazy about the idea of Microsoft censoring speech like that.
