When the lead character is presented with two very tough options, but doesn't make a decision because someone else makes it for them (or fate intervenes), that gets under my skin. And it's what happened at the end of Sky Doll.

I completely agree that's messed up

Which is a damn shame, because this story is otherwise extremely well-crafted.

OK I have an idea:

Mike & Des: IIWY Vs Mike & Dan: WFTT

it just popped into my head I don't know why but I love the alternating weeks of the segments

and Dan Reagan was a better Prez then nixon and clinton combined lol

He was certainly better at instituting policies and relaxing restictions that led to the collapse of the U.S. economy, sure.

and Bush Jr. hasn't done that in the last 8 years?? lol

Getting back to my point about characters not being allowed to make a crucial decision, I'd like to bring up "The Most Toys," the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation episode. In it, Data decides to kill Kivas Fajo and goes so far as to fire his disruptor. The only reason Fajo lives is because Chief O'Brien activated the transporter at the exact moment Data pulled the trigger. So, yeah, fate got in the way, but at least Data made a choice.

In Sky Doll, Noa never gets that far. She barely has time to even think about her options before she's swept away by Roy.

I cam appreciate the skill and detail of Clayton Crain's work but I think its all wrong for the Marvel Universe. If it was art for some heavy industrial or fantasy work such as Warhammer or 40k comics I think it might work but its too unique for me to comfortably associate with any aspect of the marvel U I enjoy. I never feel that its very kinetic either, its very obviously something thats taken so long to create that its almost lost the immediacy of the moment that many of my preferred artists have. I picked up his stuff in the Venom vs Carnage story as well as some Spider-man and I never really felt he was a good fit for those, let alone a Marvel Story where he doesn't get to detail grotesque symbiotes. I guess its just personal preference, I just feel his work doesn't aid good storytelling. Maybe on an out and out horror book, something in the style of 30 Days of Night.

Though I agree that he shouldn't be illustrating Spider-Man or any of the brighter books, the reason I like him here is because it's so different from the rest of the Marvel artists. Remember, this is supposed to be an underground team tasked with killing any and all mutant threats, so it shouldn't look and feel like any other comic on the market. It should have a gritty, dirty vibe.

Is Crain perfect? No. As both Dan and I noted, his work can get muddy, but he's hitting it out of the park most of the time.
