RSS
Can you guess which of the following comics Des and Mike vehemently disagreed on? One look at the list should give you a big hint: DMZ #37, Final Crisis #5, Invincible #56, Secret Invasion: Dark Reign and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz #1. Stavros
I'm very interested in the Final Crisis #5, Invincible #56 and Secret Invasion: Dark Reign discussion. I hope SOMEBODY was asking what the frack was up with Namor's face in that issue.
Missy
A lot of time is spent discussing Namor's face, and the crappy art in general.

SuaveStar
Just found Stavros' favorite episdoe of the Show... Is it the episode where Mike loses his glasses and Jenny finds out that the person haunting their place was just a mean property developer? Stavros
Notes as I'm listening- Final Crisis- I'll admit that I've got all the issues so far but the further in I go the less I think of it as a coherent story. Its a collection of ideas and references and pretty cool moments but unless you're willing to stare at each panel like its a magic eye and then make copious notes I'm not sure you'll ever be getting the most out of this book. There is simply so much going on that I really feel that it should be more fleshed out, like there is supposed to be tie-ins across all the other books explaining the details in what I'm seeing, like the Batman-psycho merge clone deal, the rubiks cube or the super-moniter. I listened to a 11 o'clock comics podcast that went into all this in detail and found that I had missed tonnes of what was going on, it really made me like the book a great deal less. Invincible- Given the style of the book is certain that this was an initial set-up for a lot up upcoming storylines. The deal with Mark's ex will assuredly come up again given how it ended, Mark's relationship with his brother will become more contentious as Oliver gains a differing opinion of the way they should use their abilities and the final few pages are another step in the return of one of Invincibles most personal foes, revealed last issue. The rest was Mark/Eve relationship stuff. It wasn't a great issue on its own but I liked it tremendously due to how it played into two ongoing plot points and created another. Nothing is ever left behind in this book, there have been one-page asides for jokes relating to events that took place many issues ago, its all about the continuity. I did just read the entire thing this weekend, so I guess I'm better positioned to get a lot out of it. Re the darker plotline- That isn't about man on woman violence. That is about Mark being increasingly unable to control his temper. Its a genetic trait of his people and a big part of these ongoing storylines. The villian spying on them is one that Mark supposedly killed in a fit of rage after his family was threatened. His guilt over that action is why he's so weak-willed when it comes to dealing with his brothers development as a hero. Kid Omni-man killed two villains in short order and then claimed it was a mistake, just like Invincible did, overestimating their abilities. The difference is that Oliver is lying in order to keep Mark off his back about it, he killed them in cold blood. A lot of stuff is leading up to Invincible losing his temper and doing something, potentially something very bad, most likely being manipulated by Oliver into adopting a much more hardline approach similar to that of their people. Re Eve- Its the first time those two have been together like that, so they are naturally a bit lovey-dovey. She's far from ideal as we've seen before, in particular she looks down on non-heroes, she very much believes that they can't really be a part of an active heroes life. Secret Invasion: Dark Reign- Shorter notes here, mostly just re the art. Maleev usually has a separation between his character design and the traditional. His Jessica Jones is very individual, no-one else draws her like that. When I pick up a Maleev book I expect to see a more real-world interpretation, a little more individuality and imperfection. That being said it looks like a random street bum was stuffed into Namors costume. It looked so freakin' wrong! Namor should be a VERY sharp looking handsome guy even if he's got stubble and looks a little rag-tag. You just couldn't believe that this version was the same man as any other ever drawn, it looked like Maleev messed up his photo-reference files and picked out "generic spidey goon #4". If this was their first time, that furthers my point. Mark had sex with Eve the night before, and the next morning he took a phone call from his ex, lied to Eve about it ("It's nothing series") and flew away without an explanation. When he finally told her the truth, her reaction was to cuddle with him. No anger or want of an apology, just a hug. Nothing about that scene rings true. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to see a huge argument, but something other than cuddling would have been nice. Even something as simple as Eve saying, "You have to be honest with me," would have done the trick.

The whole thing goes from Mark's opening to his explanation to his worries about his temper to cuddling very quickly. I think they are trying minimize the friction between the pair so it doesn't become part of what might drive Mark away from humanity. Missy
Hopefully I'm wrong here, but I wonder if Mark is going to wind up hitting Eve. That could be the outcome of his growing temper plot thread.

That could be the outcome of his growing temper plot thread. No way. For starters if he got sufficiently angry to hit her he'd almost certainly kill her. Amber's boyfriend and the returning villain are whats going to push him over the edge.
