Dark Knight got Ledger in but got blanked on Best Film and Best Director. I'm a bit surprised they didn't acknowlage Nolan for best direction, the film got Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Makeup, Film Editing, Cinematography AND Art Direction. Surely the confluence of all these things is down to great direction? In Bruges got a well deserved nom for Best Original Screenplay
Kscriv
Pointless but how did Springsteen not get nominated for best original song after it won the Golden Globe

slothian
Apparently Danny Boyle should share his nomination with his co-director on the grounds that they are a woman. Well, of course.
Venneh
*bump* So, all but one of my predictions was wrong. And the Academy made some shit decisions in my opinion. Molly
Fuck Sean Penn. God, he's a ball of smarm, wrapped in a douchey crust.
JackFetch
Is everyone hating on Benjamin Button because it was bad, or because of Brad Pitt? I don't see why everyone hates it all the sudden.
Molly
It was decidedly mediocre and the Academy oh-so-firmly attached it's lips to Button's movie phallus.
JackFetch
It was decidedly mediocre and the Academy oh-so-firmly attached it's lips to Button's movie phallus. It looked more like they loved Slumdog Millionaire to me.
Venneh
In the categories it won in, for the most part, it was far less than the other movies that were nominated with it. Also, from what I know of it, Slumdog deserved the love.
Molly
Button was a very Academy friendly film, and to see it walk all over films that were a lot more inventive in the technical categories (Hellboy II in make up is the one that stands out to me) is just hurtful to the artform. JackFetch
Ahh, so you are mad because it beat TDK and Iron Man in a couple minor awards?
Molly
Nah, I'm mad because it got noms that films like Gran Torino deserved. But those wins sure add to the rage.
Venneh
I'm more angry because, between the two categories, Iron Man had the better visual effects in the category, and Hellboy II should have won that make up award. I can get pictures if we need to. Also, this: Button was a very Academy friendly film, and to see it walk all over films that were a lot more inventive in the technical categories (Hellboy II in make up is the one that stands out to me) is just hurtful to the artform. Skyle
I just watched the show. Is it mr of does Angelina look more and more like Selina Kyle as time passes?
Stavros
Does Sean Penn really need another award? I don't see how Mickey Rourke wins every single other major award for Best Actor and then gets jipped at the end for this one. I can't comment on Penn's performance in Milk but I've not heard anyone say it was better than Rourke in The Wrestler.
Dread
Posted this is Dark Knight but thought I'd do it here too: And those people vote for their prospective categories and best picture. The Oscars are not People's Choice awards. They are industry awards. But looking at the big winner, Slumdog Millionaire, it can't be all bad can it? It's probably the best film of the decade. As far as Ledger goes, the only contender against him in my eyes, was Hoffman. Brolin, whom I admire greatly was nowhere near the caliber of those two in Milk. Penn deserved it too. Best race for best actor in a long time. Would have been nice to see Frank Langella or Richard Jenkins win but there was no denying Penn this year. As much as I lament the Oscars for being out of touch, this was as close to in touch as they've been probably in my lifetime. The make-up thing? The Oscars have never really seen monster making as a winner. If Jack Pierce never won then the whole category is a farce anyway. The sound editing and mixing is something that interests me. I would have liked to see Iron Man get the nod because the audio in that film is flawless. Dark KNight? Where i sat in that packed thetare, I got the impression that the right channel was pretty good. Wish I had a centre seat... Kate Winslet=most overrated actress of my lifetime. Yawwwwn. But it's not like that category was distinguished this year. Even Streep didn't do it for me in Doubt. Penn deserved it. Out of all the nominated films I have seen I still haven't see Wrestler but Penn shook that fucker up. Milk is amazing. Slumdog deserved all it got and more. One of the biggest jokes about these awards for me is Robert Downey Jr.s Supporting nom for Tropic Thunder. Please! He had better supporting roles last year. What a fucking joke that was. Aaron Robinson
Threads like this are a sad reminder of the fact that I need to watch more movies.
Dread
Granted, the only reason I've seen so many is purely thanks to illegal means.
Stavros
Its amazing to me that in this age of digital media I can barely access any of the highlights or skits from this years show. I want to see the Rogan/Franco skit where they name check Necro Butcher! I can't even find a torrent of the damn thing.
Venneh
They clamped down pretty hard on filming the awards if the cameras didn't belong to a TV station, as I understand it. However, give it a week, and you should be able to find at least the opening number on YouTube somewhere, probably.
