SuaveStar
It's a reason, but a shitty one. He would have known the shoot was OS when he signed on and now he's bitching about it. I doubt it's the real reason. Would have loved to see his take on it, Fox will probably panic and get Peter Berg or someone like that. I'd love Paul Verhoeven to have a go at an iconic character. I think they will just put someone onto the project as soon as, just to get it done, sadly. Paul Verhoeven would probably do the most fucked up superhero film ever if he was given the chance. It'd be awesome, but it wouldn't go with what Fox would probably want.
Aaron Robinson
Well, that sucks. Hopefully they get someone decent to replace him. My hopes aren't high though.

JackFetch
First, the director quit. Then the location for filming had to be changed. Now the script for the new Wolverine movie is getting a rewrite. Variety reports that Mark Bomback, whose credits include the upcoming Total Recall remake and director Bryan Singer's fantasy Jack the Giant Killer, has been hired to rewrite the script for The Wolverine that was originally turned in by Christopher McQuarrie way back when Darren Aronofsky was still directing this thing. After all, since shooting is delayed until 2012 anyway, why not have some dude who wrote Live Free or Die Hard come in and tinker with what's reportedly a good script already? The synopsis for the movie says that the story "will find Wolverine suffering from amnesia and searching for answers about his past in the Japanese criminal underworld where he finds both love and tragedy." At least we know the picture is still set in Japan, meaning it's still related somehow to the classic comic book arc created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. In fact, Variety adds that the entire cast will consist of Japanese or Japanese-American actors with the exception of Viper, who's the secretary for Japan's Minister of Justice. It's not clear if this is the same Viper who becomes Madame Hydra in the Marvel comic book universe. Production will take place mainly in Vancouver, with some filming to be done in Tokyo, and will start early next year with James Mangold directing and Hugh Jackman, of course, returning as Wolverine. No release date yet, but if you put your money on summer 2013 you'd probably win. http://blastr.com/2011/09/uh-ohwolverine-script-get.php
Dread
Before people start pooping themselves: Ordering a rewrite on a script is a sign that the film will actually be made. Writers are always fired. If there was one place on earth to double as Japan, Vancouver is it. It will cut the location shooting into a fraction of the cost. Mangold is actually a fine director as well. All hope is not gone.
JackFetch
All hope is not gone. It's still being made by Fox.

JackFetch
When an interviewer asked Biel about her "newly-announced role," the Total Recall co-star first looked confused, then tried her best to get fan excitement under control by explaining the situation. "People keep talking about this," she said. "I don't know anything about it. It's a little bit too soon, I think, for that kind of an announcement." "It's not a done deal?" the interviewer asked. "No," Biel replied. http://blastr.com/20...n-that-wolv.php I want her so bad..................to be Viper. She is about as close as you can get to a comic book drawing in real life(and be able to act).
JackFetch
Word is Biel was offered the role and she turned it down.

JackFetch
An interesting tidbit. It's not a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It takes place after X-Men: Last Stand. "Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all," revealed Mangold. "Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him." http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=35599
KnightWing
I'm betting it's got flashbacks aplenty. Still, cool that it's an actual sequel.
James D.
The whole timeline is so fucked up from First Class, though, I don't even know what's canon for them and what isn't.
Venneh
The answer is that Phoenix fucked up the timelines. There. That's your continuity answer.
Stavros
The whole timeline is so fucked up from First Class, though, I don't even know what's canon for them and what isn't. It was fucked up from the first Wolverine when they relocated all that stuff from Alkali Lake to some weird cliff face, completely redesigned Sabertooth and did a dozen other things that directly contradicted what had come before. First Class is a Casino Royale-style soft reboot where some actors carry over (Hugh Jackman=Judi Dench) but the continuity is completely new. Thinking this way makes me far more accepting of it, although it still really angers me that they never bothered to explain this to the fans. I'm fine with them removing Wolverine from these other films and just placing the events of those prior pictures in the vague context of a much wider set of adventures that happened a long time ago. Reference Jean perhaps, reference Charles but don't do anything so specific as to tie or differ from any existing stories.
