Koete
I will be buying anything Sean Murphy draws from this point on.
Guest
I think the implication that all video game comics are shit is pretty shortsighted. Are a majority of the EA licensed works pretty vapid? Absolutely, but the stuff that Udon's doing with the Capcom properties is proof that they can be done right. Dread
I have never read a video game adaptation that was even halfway decent.
Guest
To be fair, you're not exactly the target audience for them.
Dread
To be fair, the average video game consumer isn't either. They're a weird marketing tool. And that doesn't mean they shouldn't be good comics. Marv Wolfman has God Of War coming out soon. I'll give it a shot. If anyone can, he can. Guest
To be fair, the average video game consumer isn't either. They're a weird marketing tool. Marketed to people that play video games. The consumer base for games is much larger than that of comics at this point. Chances are the average gamer has bought and played the game in question by the time the comic tie-in is out. I buy a Mass Effect comic because I like the story of the game Mass Effect. It's the reverse of what you're implying. It's not like there's a group of hold outs that like comics but haven't already decided if they like games or not at this point, which is why you can look at God of War and go "hey, Marv Wolfman" and a gamer will go "hey, God of War, I wonder if they touch on so-and-so event that happened". My point is that you can't paint them all with one large brush. If a Doctor Who comic sucks, it doesn't mean that TV adaptations all suck. They're a weird beast all their own. Hell, Sonic the Hedgehog has been running since 1993, and he hasn't been relevant in video games since about a year before that. IDW's Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid and Udon's Capcom books are good video game comics, regardless of how much shit the EA imprint puts out. Aaron Robinson
So I take it that Army of Two doesn't delve into the sexual chemistry the two clearly had during the first game? Well, there goes all my enthuisiasm.
Guest
There need to be at least one awkward fist-bump or high five per page if they want my money.
Aaron Robinson
I'd only read it if they did a victory fist bump after slaughtering all the bad guys and held it for a few panels, all the while staring longingly into each others eyes. Dread
I'm not painting all comic video games with one brush because I've read one bad one. I've read dozens of them. And they all sucked hard. You understand my point? They're awful. Point me to one worth reading and maybe I'll check it out. The point is, maybe if they made a good one then the marketing would work out instead of delivering infantile lame shit.
Guest
The funny thing is, our tastes are so polarized at this point that I can point you to six good video game comics, but I already know what you'd hate about them. Udon's Street Fighter books are fun and gorgeous, but you'd likely hate the manga influence, and so on. Closest thing you have a chance of liking is Templesmith's Silent Hill stuff. It's pretty self-contained and unrelated to the games in terms of story.

Yeah, I almost typed "point me to one worth reading other than Street Fighter." Templesmith on Silent Hill sounds good. Maybe I'll check that out. Maybe we could do a Dying in the Gutters if it's good? Or a Silent Hill special with a celebrity cohost (you).
