The leisurely comic discussion thread

Just tried The Filth again, and actually got all the way through. Its pure psychadelic pornographic Morrisonesque nonsense, the kind of super-real shit that works in small doses in The Authority but here fails miserably. When you remove all the filters like respect or character affection from Morrison you get this shit, it took undeniable talent to create but the net result is still awful.

I'd really like Mike & Dan to review this on waiting for the trade, just to see what they think.

Hey guys and gals I need help. I figured this was the best thread to use. I am writing a blog post on upcoming coverage of the Superman Films on MWIRE. I could have sworn that Superman IV had a movie novelization/adaptation book when it was released. I remember having and reading it, but can't find it anywhere on the internet. I'm talking about an actual book not a comic book. If anyone can find any info for me that would be great.

This one?

Is it a misprint on the DC site, or are all the Johnny DC comics prices going up to $2.99?

I was looking at Shazam and Tiny Titans solicits, and both jump to $2.99 in July.

I found out about this blurb, I don't know if it needs a thread, but it's still slightly annoying if right:

In August, DC Comics will begin offering 32-page comic book titles with a $3.99 cover price in their DC Universe family of titles. A spokesperson for the publisher declined to comment further on the change, but confirmed that the new price point, first noticed by fans in DC's August 2010 solicitations, is indeed accurate and official.

Previously, all 32-page DC titles were priced at $2.99 and the publisher only used the $3.99 price point for extra-length books, most featuring a main title feature, and an 8 to 10-page back-up story, or co-feature.

The debut issue of the new Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors ongoing series sports the new page count-cover price combo, while the 32-page Time Masters: Vanishing Point #2 and The Mighty Crusaders #2 are also newly $3.99. These latter two titles are noteworthy because both of their July 2010 32-page debut issues feature a $2.99 cover price.

While new to DC Universe titles, the page count-price point combo is not new to fans of the major two publishers. Marvel Comics has offered $3.99 32-page titles for more than two years, including 40 such titles in August. The 32-page $3.99 price point also previously made its debut on titles in DC's WildStorm imprint. Eight 32-page WildStorm titles will feature the $3.99 cover price, including writer Gail Simone's Welcome to Tranquility: One Foot in the Grave #2, another second issue getting a dollar increase from its July debut issue.

Over at Vertigo, American Vampire #6, the first issue of that series solicited at 32-pages and not 40, will keep its $3.99 cover price. The issue will also be the first of the series not co-written by Stephen King.

"Morrison: For the 18 Days version, we took the Mahabharata’s descriptions of vimanas and astras very literally as accounts of ancient advanced technology and created a vision of the battle at Kurukshetra which combines traditional images of the Mahabharata with a kind of Vedic sci-fi approach which adds a new freshness and modernity to the story. This version is less about trying to create a historically-accurate representation of conflict in ancient India and more about emphasising a timeless, universal and mythic vision that has as much to say about the world we live in today as it does about the past. The transmission of the Bhagavad Gita at the heart of the story opens the way for a metaphorical spiritual understanding of the conflict as the war between desire and duty, the material and the spiritual, that is fought every day by every human being.

The Gita, with its direct, no-nonsense guide to living in the odd universe we all share, is at the very heart of the story, in the sense that everything else revolves around that moment when Krishna lays it on the line for Arjuna."

My first reaction?

FUCK! It's von Daniken (why I'm panicking) and bizzarchaeology all over again! Morrison has finally gone looney! Fuuuuuuck!

Second reaction?

Swamp Thing is being allowed back into the main DCU again. The main thing I'm actually happy about from the article is that it sounds like any of the characters that originated in the main universe are usable. I'll be happy to get the occasional appearance of Death or maybe a Batman/John Constantine team-up. Zatanna has her own book now so maybe her ex-boyfriend can show up and hilarity ensues.
