Missy
I just got into this show and have a few questions: 01. Does this take place in the Batman/Superman/JL/JLU universe? 02. If so, why isn't Mathew Valencia voicing Robin? 03. If this isn't in the JLU universe, is Robin Tim or Dick? (From what I've seen, he's yet to remove the mask and is never referred to by name.) Lastly, I just watched the episode entitled X and they had a VCR gag that made reference to Jason Todd, which was a total shocker because they never made mention of him in Gotham Knights. James D.
1.) Yes, it takes place in the DC universe and no, it doesn't. Confused yet? It takes place in the DC universe because they have made NUMEROUS references to Batman without actually saying his name. When Slade injects the Titans with nanites that can destroy them from within, he forces Robin to commit crimes or else he'll destroy them. During the second episode of this 2-parter, Robin fights the Titans on a rooftop. When the scene is fading away after the battle, you find out that the neon sign in the background said "Wayne Industries". In the same episode, Slade tells Robin that he'll come to accept him as a father. Robin says, "I already have a father." The scene fades away and we see bats flying all around the ceiling of the underground cavern they're in. Also, we know that Slade is Wilson Slade; a.k.a. Deathstroke--the Titans oldest (and immortal) nemesis from the comic books. I have to say, they have written him as one of the most evil fuckers I've ever watched. Further proof it's in the overall DC universe. However, Bruce Timm has gone on record saying there will be no JLU/Teen Titans crossover for the foreseeable future. Thus, it's not truly being considered part of the JLU/Static Shock DC universe for the time being. 2.) I have no clue. Interesting factoid: the people who do the voices of the five Titans are the same five people who voiced the Royal Flush gang in the Justice League two-parter, "Wild Cards" (which is in my top 3 favorite JL epsiodes ever). 3.) This is a question that has hounded nearly everyone who has watched this show. I say it's Dick Grayson because when that retarded Robin from the alternate universe (with the magic finger) comes to Earth, they go into one of those lovely song numbers they seem to love so much. During that song, the words "Dick Grayson" flash on the screen over and over. So, I'm going with Grayson until definitive proof shows me otherwise. As for the Todd reference, I noticed that, too, and I have no idea why they did that. Edited March 24, 2005 by James D.
Missy
Saw one called The Quest where Robin said, "I've trained with the best," to some foe. An obvious reference to Batman. I like those because it give context to the series. However, Bruce Timm has gone on record saying there will be no JLU/Teen Titans crossover for the foreseeable future. Thus, it's not truly being considered part of the JLU/Static Shock DC universe for the time being. I actually know why that is. Forget where I read this or who said it, but it's because Robin is a leader when with the Titans. Throw Batman into the mix and he's become a sidekick once more. It kills his role in the cartoon. 3.) You're right. Two reasons for this (besides the song you mentioned): First is his attraction to Starfire. Dick and Starfire nearly wed in the DCU, and it looks like they're hinting at that with this cartoon. Second (and something I noticed upon first viewing but neglected to mention) is another VCR gag from the episode X. Watch when Beast Boy first flips the chalkboard: There's a drawing of Nightwing with the words "Robin - Time Traveling" written around it. That clearly makes this Robin Dick Grayson. Guest Preston
What ever the answers to those questions, I must say, that this show is godly. The team is wonderful and Slade is, as James said, one of the most evil fuckers ever written. 1. Robin- Man oh man, does he show shades of Batman all the time. From the proud leader to needing to strike out on his own from time to time, because he feels as if he'll put the others in danger. Along with the persistant doubts if he's good enough. There's an episode (How Long is Forever?) where Starfire goes into the future, and Robin is Nightwing, so it's Dick. Best Robin Episodes: Mask, Apprentice I&II, Haunted 2. Cyborg- Another solid character, Cyborg adds comedy to everything but also has a very serious edge. In the two "Titans East" episodes, he shows some serious leadership skills. Cy also has a soft side that I love, he has to work to stay human at times. Best Cyborg Episodes: The Sum of His Parts, Only Human, Deception, Titans East I&II. 3. Starfire- Personally, Star is my least favorite character on the show. But she's still solid. On her best, Starfire is just like all of us at one point, trying to fit in in a place she's very uncomfortable. At her worst, Starfire is annoying as fuck. She can be downright stupid and her "humorous" one liners often suck. But she's still a solid character. Best Starfire Episodes: Sisters, Betrothed, Transformation, Switched 4. Beast Boy- First of all, I'm glad they changed this from "Changeling" in the comic all those years ago. Beast Boy is the character you can really identify with. (which is supposed to be Starfire.) He's got a sense of humor, but he's really covering for his insecurities, and he's a bit of a fuck-up. There's times everything the little guy touches turns to shit. Best Beast Boy Episodes: Forces of Nature, Deep Six, Crash, The Beast Within 5. Raven- Oh, god. Raven is probably the best character on the show. She makes everything around her better. She's deep, thinking and at times the funniest thing on the show, with her dry, sarcastic wit. Her powers kick ass, and she has a dark side that is one of her most intriuging aspects. The episodes that focus on her, are some of the best in the show. Best Raven Episodes: Nevermore, Fear Itself, Titan Rising, Spellbound This show is one of the better things on TV. Has any one else noticed that DC's shows often are one of the best things on TV?
Missy
Best Cyborg Episodes: The Sum of His Parts, Only Human, Deception, Titans East I&II. Granted, I haven't seen too many episodes yet, but I personally love Cyborg the Barbarian. In it he kicks all sorts of ass, uncovers an evil plot, falls in love, kicks more ass (without using his powers) and, even once he's back in his own time and amongst his friends, the hero demands to be sent back to finish the fight. Awesome episode!
James D.
Shit, I forgot about "How Long is Forever?" That episode RULED. And yeah, since Nightwing was shown in the future, it's obviously Dick Grayson.

I loved the part in "Cyborg: The Barbarian" where she just pops up on the screen and says, "Evil beware...we have WAFFLES."
Pablo Molinero
Interesting thing about the DC Universe, in a Static episode w/ Batman, Static asks where Robin was and Batman says "With the Titans. You'll meet them someday." So apparently they reside in the same world, but are just, like, isolated, or something.
genet
Ilove this cartoon. I'll definately get it if it comes out on DVD. Just got done watching the beast within and thought that it kicked ass (I got alot of Beastboy and Raven love) Heres a question What are those metal slippers that Robin wears on his feet? I mean do they serve a purpose.
Missy
Heres a question What are those metal slippers that Robin wears on his feet? I mean do they serve a purpose. My guess is that they're meant to be like steel-toed boots, and are used for safety (so no one can step on his toes in a fight) and to add a little extra stiffness to his already powerful kicks. Missy
Just watched "Haunted" and there was even more proof that Robin is Dick (though I know we've already determined this). As Slade and Robin fight, Raven enters the Boy Wonder's mind and sees Dick taking the oath with Batman (in shadow) and the death of the Flying Graysons. Anyway, this episode is hands down my favorite thus far. I haven't seen too many so I didn't realize how truly evil Slade was until now. I mean, he's fucked with the Titans for so long that Robin can't let it go and winds up going crazy and hurting Starfire. Wow!
Missy
I just watched TROQ, the latest episode, and all I have to say is... "WOW!" I cannot believe they actually tackled racism in such a mature way, and then ended the episode without a joke to lighten the somber mood. Man, that episode was good! Missy
I just watched it again. DAMN this episode is good!
James D.
Just saw it this afternoon. Phenomenal episode. I really wanted Starfire to part that guy's head with a starbolt.

Sean D.
i have a questions, because i missed a few things because i had to get up during the episode, and haven't been able to see the episode again on tv recently. In the episode where it's Raven's birthday... how the hell did Slade come back, and how did the episode end... i completely missed it
James D.
i have a questions, because i missed a few things because i had to get up during the episode, and haven't been able to see the episode again on tv recently. In the episode where it's Raven's birthday... how the hell did Slade come back, and how did the episode end... i completely missed it Slade fell into the lava after Terra broke his control over her, but anyone who has read the comic book series knows Slade (a.k.a. Deathstroke) is immortal. Slade made a pact with Trigon (Raven's father) to "deliver a message" to his daughter and he gained the ability to use demon fire. ***SPOILERS*** The episode you are talking about is "Birthmark". Slade eventually traps Raven on top of a skyscraper after she stopped time. He tears most of her clothing off and singes demonic script into her arms, torso, back and legs. Afterwards, he shows what Earth will look like after Raven fulfills her destiny of destroying the world. (It ain't pretty.) She loses consciousness from the unimaginable pain and stress, and the present time is shown again. Slade lets go of her and she falls off the skyscraper, and as she's falling, he simply says: "Oh...and happy birthday." Robin swing by and catches her and they head back to Titans Tower. The Titans decide to go against Raven's wishes and throw her a small party. Robin tries to reassure Raven that everything will be fine and that says "it's over now". He walks away and Raven says: "No. It's just started..." That's where it ends. An AWESOME episode that further shows that Slade really is the most evil fucking bastard this side of Lex Luthor. Kscriv
Much like JL/JLU was before James hooked me up, this is a show I like when I can see it, but can't cuz YTV throws it in a shit time slot, I need to get all these eps cuz Slade does seem like a bastard of monumental proportions
Pablo Molinero
Just saw Part III of III of "The End" and it was bloody awesome. SPIZOILERS?: The Slade bits were pure gold, like, after Trigon betrays Slade, one of Trigon's minions says "You cannot defeat pure evil." Slade just responds, "You know, I'm not such a nice guy, myself," and blows a detinator right behind the thing. Afterwards you just see a singed helmet of the minion, and Slade pick up its Flaming Axe of DOOM and says "Don't bother getting up. I'll let myself out." Later, he cuts off Trigon's horns with the Flaming Axe of DOOM, after all, "he's no one's servant." He's back and kicking more ass than ever. Slade fucking rules. Missy
I saw these two weeks ago after downloading them (why does Canada get the episodes first?), and nearly shit my pants with glee! Slade ruled all, and Robin proved why he's the leader. My only complaint is that I truly wish Raven would have stuck with the white cloak afterwards. James D.
Fucking fantastic. I finally got to see Part 3. It was nice to finally be able to root for Slade for once. The man is a badass.
Missy
Tell me about it. When he and Robin were fighting side-by-side in part 2, I realized that they gelled more than the team of Batman and Robin. And then his thorough ass kicking of Raven's father was sweet! Pablo Molinero
Saw all three parts again yesterday. It kinda bothered me to see Slade so weak/undead, but at least it's good to know he's back to his normal self. It would have been great if he would have kept that awesome weapon, shame he threw it at Trigon.
Missy
The first episode of Season Five, entitled "Homecoming, part one," will debut on Saturday, September 24! And will feature the Doom Patrol.
Zephyr
The Teen Titans are one of the reasons I love Saturday night. Some of the lines are priceless, like in the episode where the titans get stuck on the alien planet after that fight with the huge beast on the space station. Robin: I think its, uh, really cool how you shoot starbolts...and stuff. And you're the bravest girl I know... I fell over laughing after hearing that! And as a side note on the whole Trigon mini-series, the writers brought in a demon god and destroyed the entire world, just to bring Slade back from the dead. You know its a kick-ass villian when the whole universe is put in danger just for him...
