RSS
Shana and Mike conclude baseball month on For Better or Worse by looking at the comedy classic Major League. Despite enjoying the film, one takes issue with an unintentionally creepy subplot, while the other is uneasy with the portrayal of a racial stereotype. (Note: Bob Uecker and Garrison Keillor are not dead.) Dan
Re: Cerrano, and the "what the hell was he supposed to be" thing, I think you guys are overthinking it a little. "Hey, other writer. There are a lot of Dominican ballplayers, right?" "Yes, first writer. We should probably include one in this screenplay about baseball which we are putting together." "They're the ones who do voodoo, right?" "I... guess? Maybe? That sounds right." Writer laziness coupled with (unfortunately accurately) the assumption that the vast majority of American moviegoers would not notice or think too much about it.
