  1. Clearing things off the pile of unwatched DVDs.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The first and the best.  I don't know if this is nostalgia coloring things, but I think the suit still look great and work better than the CG to come.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II - Probably my most watch movie growing up.  It's a downgrade, to be sure, but sill fun.  Knowing that it was pumped out in a less than a year is obvious looking at it now.  And I think I noticed a plot point I never noticed upon the previous 742 viewings.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - I never understood why this one in particular was criticized when it is no worse than II.  It tried something different, and I like it for that.  Also, learned that "The Sacred Scroll of Death" was a subtitle used at some point.  Seems a bit much.  And the switch of puppeteer shops is very noticeable.

TMNT - It's fun.  Villains are weak and rather unimportant to the story.  Feels short and more like a pilot 'movie' to a new series than a theatrical movie.  Didn't realize Chris Evans was in this either.  At the very least, the rooftop fight is awesome.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) - I hate the redesign of the turtles and Shredder .  I dislike the CG, but I get it.  Otherwise, it is an okay movie.  First half is a little boring and I get disinterested in the CG battles, but it had moments.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows - Better of the two.  That still puts it at number 5 overall, so faint praise. Shredder looks much better, but Casey is horrible so even trade.  Nice that it only took six movies for no one to get captured.

Turtle Power: The Definitive History - Documentary that was anything but.  Suffers from something most documentaries I watch do, pacing.  At 95 minutes, it feels like they scratched the surface on, say the comics.  Went pretty in-depth on the toys & the first movie.  But then everything after the first movie is rushed.  The video games, the comics post Eastman & Laird split, the Eastman & Laird split.  And the second wave with the 03 cartoon was never even mentioned.  With something like TMNT there is so much to cover.  If this was a focus on the rise of TMNT ending at the movie, it could have been excellent.  As is, it is a decent rush thru the 30+ years, with some surprising home video footage.

As a side note:  I found it incredible odd that they could show footage of the movie/cartoon, but any audio from the clips was not original.  Most notably was the cartoon theme.  That seems like a weird copyright issue I have never seen before.

  2. WWE is currently releasing talent due to reasons.  Released: Kurt Angle, Aiden English, Drake Maverick, Heath Slater, Lio Rush, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows, Eric Young Curt Hawkins, EC3, Sarah Logan & most shocking to me, Mike Chioda.

And while I went to bathroom, more added.  Erick Rowan, Primo, Epico & producers Lance Storm and Shane Helms.

Edit as soon as I hit post: Add Mike Bennett & Maria to the list.  And Fit Finlay.

Edit part 2: Zack Ryder. & No Way Jose.

What interests me is Lio Rush in particular.  He publicly talked about not working until conditions improve.  And with the company 'respecting the wishes of those that wish stay home', it sends a conflicting message.

  3. Don't know if anybody here has been following Dana White (and therefore UFC) having this insane need to keep this fight card on 4/18 happening.

The TL/DR of it all:  Arenas in the US were no go due to state mandates.  State athletic commissions refused licenses. Tried Dubai.  They closed borders.  They lost the main event.  Were going to run at a casino on tribal land because the rules do not apply.  The association of ringside physicians said no.  Oh, and they apparently bought an island so international fighters that couldn't get into the country because travels bans could fight.

Then Disney, their exclusive PPV broadcaster, said no.  Then event canceled.  DISNEY was the voice of reason.

Here are people more qualified people talking about it

    Catching up.

I loved Gargano vs. Ciampa: The Final Beat.

    This is all.

Having now listened to my normal round of podcasts and youtube reviews, I am shocked at the overwhelming dislike this match is getting.  I just don't understand sometimes.

  5. Going thru the larger stack of DVDs I bought and never watched.

Machete - Great stupid fun as always.  The fake De Niro political ads are a little too real these days tho.

V for Vendetta - Hadn't watched this in well over a decade now.  Don't think it lived up to the memory.  And it is a way longer film than I think was needed.  Also, I forgot a part of the plot which, given current events, took me out of the film for a minute.

  6. Two things from Night 1 of Wrestlemania.

    1) AJ/Taker was fun.  I mean, it wasn't over the top a la Lucha Underground.  Really wasn't as over the top as the TNA Deletions.  But it was something different than a quiet arena.  And Undertaker didn't have to wrestle.  Wins all around.

    2) Ladder Matches without crowd noise are somehow worse, even if the stunts aren't as dangerous.  Just clearly hearing the clicking and clacking of the ladders, even hearing them slide on the mat, adds a realism I don't think I want.

  7. In lieu of playing in person (for obvious reasons), we have taken to the online versions.  Highlights so far:

Dominion - Card collection/resource management.  Basic game is free to play.  Expansions are available thru a monthly subscription of $4, which only one player needs to buy.  With the massive amount of expansions, worth it.

Yucata - Many games here.  All free to play.  We played Stone Age.  Which outside of a bit of rules confusion on our part & a little wonky UI, worked really well.

Ticket to Ride - Steam version of the classic.  Was totally worth the $4 sale price, probably not the full $10.

Catan Classic - Seems to be only iOS/Android.  When in the game, it worked well and was fun.  But the app is so slow to do anything (like register/find games) that I found this to be the worst.  Others didn't mind so much.  Mileage may vary.

  8. Dig! - Fell into a Dave Grohl podcast guest wormhole on YouTube.  Forget where, but he briefly mentioned this documentary.  Follows two 'sister' bands (The Dandy Warhols & The Brian Jonestown Massacre) as one gains success and one doesn't.  At least, that is how it is sold.  In reality it focuses 80%-90% on BJM, and basically just their lead person Anton.  And that is where this falls apart for me.  I don't find entertainment in watching someone who suffers from a combination of being an asshole/mental illness/drug addiction.  There is seemingly a better doc that delivers on the mission statement (they have a TON of footage, like a shocking amount), but this is not it.

Phantom of the Paradise - I don't know why, but in my head, this was hyped up as a "WTF, insane drug trip of epicness."  It is not.  I was bored.  Followed thru to the end, but started multitasking halfway thru.  Not a fan.

    Crow: City of Angels
Crow: Wicked Prayer - So, I don't get it.  I know Wicked Prayer is a bit of a punchline around here.  And it is objectively bad.  But it isn't the worst Crow movie because City of Angels exists.  THAT is a movie that deserves to be a punchline and should never been seen.  Glad I paid nothing for this DVD set.

  9. Catching up on things:

Legion (Season 3) - I think I liked it better than season 2.  Not that this season was any less pretentious and up its own ass.  Because it certainly was.  I just took like 3 months to watch 8 episodes.  At least I got an ending.  A totally unsatisfying and cop-out ending, but an ending.

Runaways (Season 3) - I don't know exactly when they knew this would be the last season.  Because the idea to abruptly end the 2+ season story to go all magic heavy seems like an odd choice.  At least I got an ending.  A mostly satisfying ending too.

Titans (Season 2) - This was way better than the first.  Still not the greatest, but an improvement.  Nice to see an older Bruce Wayne.  And Deathstoke was pretty good too.

  10. Birds of Prey - It was fun.  Pretty much all I wanted from this.

The Crow - Moved all the DVDs I've bought and never watched and put them into a big pile.  This was on top.  Still love it, and the pure 90s of it gets better with age.  But I think this is the first time I've watched it since I watch the TV show.  And those are the versions of the characters that are in my head.  Weird.

Jay & Silent Bob Reboot - Meh.  About what I expected.  The first part of the film is horrible.  Very cringe.  But it evens out and adds a little heart, which at least stopped me watching the timer.  Still not good.

Apparently the upcoming ninth Fast & Furious movie is simply called F9. As I mentioned on Twitter, the F9 key on an Apple keyboard is the fast forward button, so I'm all in on this being a super weird joke by the screenwriter(s). Until now the series hasn't officially used the F# naming convention for titles, just marketing purposes. They've been:

    • The Fast and the Furious
    • 2 Fast 2 Furious
    • The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
    • Fast & Furious
    • Fast Five
    • Fast & Furious 6
    • Furious 7
    • The Fate of the Furious

Also, some of the titles have been puns. (I'm looking at you 2 Fast and Fate.) So I would not put this kind of weird pun past them.

I remember when Fast Five was coming out in theaters.  I struggled to explain to people the difference between 1 & 4 when they came into the store to get the DVD to catch up.  They all asked for #1, but actually wanted #4.  And when I tried to make sure they got the correct DVD, I got a lot of blank stares.  I had to make signs.

  12. I really hope not.  The last thing I want to see is Edge in a ladder match.  It is just not worth it.

I mean, he has cashed in twice and only won the match once.  There are ways around things if you want to go that route.

Kinda disappointed they are going the Randy route.  But, they'll have a nice, slow, safe, boring Randy Orton 2.75 star match.  I really don't need much more from Edge.
