Something I forgot to include in my email - one of Helen Mirren's most prominent roles, certainly in the UK, was as an alcoholic detective in a TV series called Prime Suspect. I've not seen any of the series myself, but it's very well regarded.

Prime Suspect was a (relatively) HUGE hit when it aired on PBS in America, way back when.

A week back I just so happened to add that to my instant queue. Not sure when I'll get to it, but I fully intend to.
