  1. I know a guy who played a demo, and he said it is unbelievably bloody. Like, you can throw your shotgun at someone, and, after they've instinctively caught it, you stab them in the face. You can curb the bastards, and put their faces into hot water and stoves. He also said there was a moment when he shot some guy (with a shotgun) on the stairs and his head rolled down. And the interrogation system is pressure sensitive. Meaning, you use the left analog stick to put the gun up to a guy's head -- if you press it too hard you end up killing him.

  2. I had heard the rumors and even firsthand testimonials, but was reluctant to believe any of it. That was until I saw this screen. Look at what it says -- WOOD CHIPPER!!!!

    Holy fuck this game is going to be violent! Unfortunately it's another six months from release, but I'll be dreaming of it every night until then.

    First Look: The Punisher

    THQ is about to unleash some punishment on the gaming community. Bryan Dawson takes a first look at The Punisher.

    Comic book properties are all the rage right now. The movie industry has embraced the genre and continues to release blockbuster films based on the highly popular Marvel and DC comic book licenses. This summer, Lion's Gate Films will release a movie based on the fan favorite comic, The Punisher. Now, thanks for the folks over at THQ and Volition, PlayStation 2 and Xbox owners will be able to take punishment into their own hands.

    For those unfamiliar with the comic book property, The Punisher follows the story of Frank Castle. As an undercover FBI agent and former Marine, Castle was marked for death by the mob. He survived the hit, but his wife and children were victimized in his place. Devastated by the loss, Castle becomes the one man army, judge and jury known as The Punisher. Unlike other superheroes, he has no special powers. Instead, Castle relies on his intelligence, combat experience and undying will to avenge the wronged.

    Don't overlook The Punisher video game as your standard, single player action title. Volition has gone to great lengths to create a unique experience that will keep players coming back to dish out more punishment. Instead of simply shooting everything in site, players will be able to walk into a room and evaluate the situation. If you see something that you can use as a good punishment device, chances are you can use it against the bad guys.

    Special hotspots littered throughout the environments will trigger the ultimate punishment for unsuspecting villains. There are over 100 unique ways to dish out a heavy helping of punishment. The environments are so interactive that players will be able to create Zen-like moments of punishment if they use their surroundings to the fullest extent. This is not only a highly unique feature for an action game, but also a first for console gaming.

    If for some reason you decide to keep some criminals alive, Volition is there for you. The Punisher includes a personal interrogation mode to help the Punisher obtain important info. Here, you'll face criminals in a one-on-one shake down, getting the facts you need to continue on with your mission. Yet another first for console gaming, and a feature that should help keep things fresh for gamers looking for more than the ultimate punishment.

    What Punisher game is complete without a nice arsenal of weaponry? Not only will would-be punishers have a large assortment of guns to utilize, but you'll also be able to customize and upgrade your weapons. The game will include realistic modern day weaponry that players have come to expect from only the best action games. Pick and choose the form of punishment you'll be delivering, then customize your weapon to provide a unique killing experience that can only be found in The Punisher.

    Those of you worried about The Punisher's comic book roots, fear not, Volition is on the ball with this one as well. The game features an original story by acclaimed Punisher scribes Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti. The story combines over 30 years of Punisher history, including his greatest adversaries and allies. In addition, players will be able to collect and unlock special bonus material from the Punisher and Marvel universes.

    As a member of the action game genre, The Punisher looks to exceed any and all expectations. For fans of the comic, Volition seems to have created a missing piece in the Punisher universe. This is looking to be something that fans of the comics and action game buffs should equally enjoy, and casual gamers will certainly get a kick out of punishing others. THQ plans to ship The Punisher this fall for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. Stay tuned for more punishment as we draw closer to the Electronic Entertainment Expo this May.

  3. To be fair, RE4 and MP2 are TBA. I'm sure The Big N will hold off on releasing them 'till closer to the holidays, but, if that's the case, just ask someone for them. Save yourself some cash.

  4. Hulk - He was the dumbass teenager who Banner ran onto the Gamma test field to save.

    The Avengers - He was a mascot of sorts and ran a ham radio group of kids who were sort of like 'evil-doings' informers for the Avengers. He also helped form them using said radio.

    Captain America - For some reason I've never figured out, Jones was Cap's sidekick for awhile. A replacement for Bucky.

    Captain Mar-Vell - This is the only one I'm shaky on. Rick Jones helped end the Kree-Skrull war, of which Mar-Vell was a major part. I don't know of any other direct connection because I wasn't a Mar-Vell fan. If memory serves me, Rick had the same bond with Mar-Vell that he has with his son.

    Captain Marvel (Genis) - Rick Jones shared a body/place in the world or something with him. I don't know how to describe it. It was Jones communicating with Marvel, and the Nega-bands (?) being a way of switching one of them from the Negative Zone or something to the real world.

  5. I just read on IGN.com that Nintendo has slated Paper Mario 2 for a Fourth Quarter release! December 10, to be more precise. Sure, it's a Hell of a long ways off, but hot damn -- I'm dancing with joy!

  6. I've often felt that she stays with him because that's what her morals tell her to do (RE: marriage, the kids). That's not to say that she doesn't still love him, but it's not what it once was. With his head always in his work, Reed's never there for her. That can't feel good. And remember, Sue fell for Reed when she was 12 years old. He was boarding at her aunt's house -- and was at least twice her age. It was a schoolgirl crush.

    Despite being a king, Namor would live to serve Sue. However, he might not be the best catch either, seeing as how he's something out of a fairytale -- being the handsome prince (in this case king) -- and might not be able to live up to his idealized potential. But they both clearly long for one another. Even if it didn't last forever (RE: "...happily ever after"), it would be true love.

    So my vote goes to Namor.

  7. It's been well established that Sue lusts after Namor, just as he does for her. In times of doubt and emotional turmoil, Sue has turned to Namor for comfort. It's even been hinted that the two might have been intimate when Sue thought Reed to be dead. In the end, however, Sue always comes home to her husband and children. Be it out of love or devotion, no one can really say.

    But the question remains, who do you think Sue should be romantically involved with and why?

  8. Place: The Baxter Building

    Conditions: Psycho-Man has used one of his devices to strike hate into each member of the Fantastic Four. Now, trapped within the Baxter Building, the four must fight one another until only one remains standing. Because none of them will kill, this is not to the death. No one else is in the building -- this includes Franklin and Val. Reed has access to all of his machines, and can build new ones using parts that are handy. (Meaning, he can't jump into the Negative Zone to find something to help him.)

Getting an editor -- or, better yet, a publisher -- to look at your work takes determination, patience, and sometimes a great deal of luck.     Dark Horse “New Recruits” Submission Guidelines

    We’re looking for finished proposals -- story and art -- from writer-artists or writer-and-artist teams who have a story to tell. Writers with story proposals without an artist attached, or artists wishing to submit art-only samples for consideration, should go through Dark Horse’s standard submissions process (click here for those guidelines) The Dark Horse New Recruits program is for writer-artists or writer-and-artist teams who have original, story-and-art proposals only. Your proposal may be for a series of any length, but keep in mind the realities of publishing: a shorter story (one- to four-issues in length) will usually have a better chance of seeing publication than a longer one.

    What to Submit

    1. If you’re proposing a four-issue series, it’s not necessary that all four issues be completed, but you should have at least ten consecutive pages of the first issue completed, plus a concise outline of the rest of the story. The more of your story that you can show, the better. You need not provide a cover illustration for your proposal if you feel that single-illustrations are not your strong suit.

    Remember, this is an opportunity that may never come around again, so put your best foot forward. The more complete your story, the better your chances. Make sure you’re submitting clean, readable copies of your work (never send original art), and that your name and phone number are on each page. Elaborate binders or folders are not necessary, as Mike will be reviewing your work -- not its package.

    2. Each proposal must be accompanied by a completed New Recruits Official Entry Form, signed by all parties involved in the proposed story. The entry form is necessary for Dark Horse to read your submission. Proposals without completed entry forms will be returned unread. Entry forms will be available at all proposal drop-off locations at this year’s conventions, or you can download a printable Official Entry Form from the button at left.

    3. Each proposal must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough -- and with sufficient postage -- to return the proposal to you. We cannot guarantee that proposals without a self-addressed, stamped envelope will be returned.

    4. Place your proposal, Submission Agreement, and self-addressed, stamped envelope together in a securely sealed envelope. Make sure that your name and address and the words “New Recruit” are written on the envelope.

    You can drop off your proposals at the “Recruiting Station” at the Dark Horse Comics booth at the following conventions: Wizard World L.A. (March 19-21, Long Beach, CA), Comic-Con International (July 22-25, San Diego, CA) or Wizard World (August 13-15, Rosemont, IL).

    If you cannot make it to one of the above conventions, don’t despair! You may also mail your proposal (along with a completed entry form and a self-addressed, stamped envelope) to:
