  1. Keanu as Gambit?!? Great, why don't I just go shoot myself for bringing it up.

I hate it too, but I'll tell you why it's an okay idea:

    01. Gambit looks grimy, just like Keanu.

    02. Gambit wears a trench coat, as did Neo. And Keanu looked good in it.

    03. Gambit has a staff, as did Neo for the one fight in the second Matrix film. (Frankly, those moves were sweet, and it would be killer is they had Gambit do something similar.)

  2. ARTIST IAN CHURCHILL SIGNS EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT WITH DC COMICS

    March 17th, 2004 -

"I returned from my two-year world trip to find some unexpected changes in the comic book industry and some great things happening at DC Comics," says Churchill. "Staying in contact with Eddie Berganza during my absence, we started talking on my return about possible projects for me at DC. I'm excited to be in the position to tackle some of the most recognizable icons the industry has to offer and more importantly, I'm passionate about drawing again as a result. Bring it on!"

"I am very excited to have Ian working exclusively here at DC," says Group Editor Eddie Berganza. "His artwork is so dynamic it leaps off the page. Don't take my word for it, just check out the work he did on SUPERMAN #180 where the Man of Steel faced off against Dracula! The detail was amazing and his Lois... wow! His artwork captures the larger-than-life attitude we have going on in the DCU, and Ian's heroes kick major butt!"

Churchill returns to DC as cover artist on OUTSIDERS #12. This issue is solicited in the March issue of Previews and is scheduled to arrive in stores on May 19 with a cover price of $2.50 U.S.

I couldn't get enough of Ian when he was on Cable -- his vision of the character seemed perfect. And his work on Age of Apocalypse was by far his best to date. (See the image of Apocalypse below.) Eventually he went off to work on Coven, and promptly disappeared. Now that he's back, I have to wonder if anyone even cares.

He was never a huge name to draw readers in, if I remember correctly he missed deadlines, and, frankly, his style, as good as it is, is what was wrong with comics in the 90s -- a super-ultra-über amount of hash marks, impossible muscles, and even more impossibly large tits. (I take that last part back, as he could draw three cup sizes: apples, cantaloupes, and watermelons.)

  3. I vote for Robotnik, because for one thing, when he wasn't building Robotic minions to do his bidding, which was kill Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, etc, he'd have his own flying machine modified so he can combat Sonic & Co. himself.

Even his bots weren't always junk metal waiting to happen. They got progressively morre difficult to get rid of from each level, and I know  that I've played the games and I'd still have a buttload of problems with the bots.

Uh... that's the same thing Dr. Wily does, and Capcom had him doing it five years before Sonic and Robotnik hit the scene. Two words for ya: carbon copy.

Okay, we can just call my statement a bias towards Sonic games...

    Will do!

  5. You're thinking of Jessica Drew, the first Spider-Woman, and the supposed reason is that Marvel had other plans for her (or something), but it doesn't matter because that is just a rumor.

    Here's Bendis:

You may have heard that "Alias" was originally going to star Jessica Drew, Marvel Comics' original Spider-Woman. You would have heard wrong, though.

"Nope. This is an urban myth that I believe I will never live down.

"I was at one time toying with doing Jessica drew because she has the best hair of any superhero in comics, but this book is entirely different than what that idea was to be. This character is totally different in every way but sexual gender. And there's that Jessica name that's not going to help me convince anyone."

  6. Dark Horse is currently trying to gut out its new title "Fused" with its first major villian: Cro-Mag.  The premise is he's super strong and invincible simply because he has the mind of a 1960s scientist and the body of a reanimated cro-magnon man.  Oh, and he also carries an indestructible bone for a club and uses the brains of dead soldiers to make armies of flying, gun-toting brains.

Now tell me I'm supposed to take HIM seriously, hm?  LAME.

Tell me you're making that up. *Looks up Fused on DarkHorse.com, sees Cro-Mag* Shit.

    Read the section in bold.

Mark Haggerty has just about had enough, thank you very much. First his body is co-opted and consumed by a robotic exo-suit. Then a crack team of government mercenaries take every step imaginable to try to convince him (or trick him, depending on how you see things) into joining up with their squad. Topping all that off with the unleashing of a murderous, maniacal monkey-man who likes to throw his own doo-doo around…well, that’s the final straw. Cy-bot’s finally p.o.ed enough to start the buttkicking, but now that Cro-Mag has unveiled a robot pal twice the size of our robot hero, this just might be the end for Cy-Bot!

  7. Gambit -- Keanu Reeves (Neo, The Matrix)

Psylocke -- Kate Beckinsale (Selene, Underworld)

Emma Frost -- Peta Wilson (Mina Harker, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Havoc -- Stuart Townsend (Dorian Gray, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Angel -- Josh Duhamel (Tad Hamilton, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton)

Hank McCoy (pre-fur) -- Steve Bascic (Hank McCoy, X2)

Beast (with fur) -- CG'd with George Buza's voice (Beast, X-Men cartoon)

Quicksilver -- Topher Grace (Eric Forman, That '70s Show)

Scarlet Witch -- Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti, That '70s Show)

Jubilee -- Chiaki Kuriyama (Go Go, Kill Bill: Vol. 1)

By the way, IMDB is listing Famke Janssen as "Phoenix/Jean Grey". Where as before she's been credited as "Dr. Jean Grey". A spoiler of things to come, perhaps? (I guess not if you really watched the ending of X2.)

  8. My God, the Falcon would obliterate the Enterprise.

Are you kidding me? I'm not saying the Falcon couldn't win -- if that were the case I wouldn't have made the poll -- but I don't know about "obliterate". The 1701-D is huge, is staffed by the finest crew in Starfleet, and has defensive/offensive capabilities that are virtually unmatched. It's stood toe-to-toe with the Borg, and won.

With Han's piloting skills and sly tricks they could easily hide from and sneak attack the Enterprise many times, but I don't think we'll see the Falcon "obliterate" anyone.

I'm still torn on who wins, however.

  9. Sinister might be too out there, even for this type of movie.

Gambit for sure, Psylocke or Emma (to replace Jean), Havoc, Angel, and Beast, as well as Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch as Magneto's bastard children. I'll cast 'em later.

  10. Should I run over to get The Killing Joke or try to go from memory?

I am pretty sure he was trying to drive Jim GOrdon insane. Why? Just to prove he could.

Yup. He wanted to prove a point: that one bad day could turn you into someone like him.

  11. Place: the vastness of space

    Conditions: Normal

Enterprise 1701-D Crew: Picard, Ricker, B.Crusher, Data, LaForge, Yar, Worf, Troy, W.Crusher

Millennium Falcon Crew: Solo, Chewbacca, Skywalker, Organa, C3P0, R2D2

Set-Up: There are no other ships around, and no one will die here. The goal is to disable the other ship -- think of it as a training mission.

  12. This is straight from the mouth of Marvel.

BRYAN SINGER Presents ULTIMATE X-MEN - The Comic!

Acclaimed director Bryan Singer (X-Men: The Movie, X2, Usual Suspects) signs with Marvel to direct the monthly ULTIMATE X-MEN comic book!

Teaming with Singer is the X2: X-Men United writing team of Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. The trio is slated to produce scripts for a year’s worth of Marvel’s best-selling comic book.

Singer - one of Hollywood’s hottest talents - first became involved with the world’s best-known super team as director of the X-Men movie franchise, thrilling everyone from hardcore comic fans to general moviegoers. He and his team are now bringing their cinematic sense of action and drama to Marvel’s top-selling ULTIMATE X-MEN comic book for a 12-issue run. Details for this story arc will be announced over the coming months but all parties are genuinely X-cited by the possibilities springing from telling a tale unfettered by the restrictions of a real-world special effects budget.

Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad added, “Bryan’s vision for the X-Men franchise has already changed the way the world looks at these amazing characters. It’s an absolute joy to have him now take his vision from the big screen and adapt it to the comic book format. It will be interesting to see how Bryan approaches the X-Men within this no-holds-barred medium. No matter what, he’s sure to entertain.”

Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley continued, “We couldn’t be happier to have Bryan and his team on board. Between the vision they have for these characters, the story they have to tell, and the creative freedom the comics medium provides, this is sure to be a stunning epic.”

Is this a good idea? A bad one? Discuss.

  13. After thinking about this, I've come up with the following.

Just as six Borg soldiers are deployed to assess the situation, the Phalanx (realizing they can't properly defend two sides at once) swoop in and assimilate Brainiac-13. With him added to their arsenal, they appear to be unstoppable -- especially after they consume one of the Borg and systematically destroy the other five.

What the Phalanx did not/could not know is that those six Borg soldiers did exactly what they were assigned to do. Though assimilated, the Borg continues to function as part of the Collective -- sending back critical data about the Phalanx. And the five that were destroyed have taught the Collective how to defend themselves against the Phalanx.

With this knowledge in hand, the Borg rip through the Phalanx like papier-mâché, assimilating most and destroying the rest.

Having won, the Borg turn towards New York City (and the rest of the world), preparing to absorb its technologies and peoples, but little did either side know that Brainiac-13 had an ace up his sleeve.

Much as he did with Metropolis, Brainiac-13 incorporated himself into the city before being assimilated by the Phalanx (and subsequently by the Borg). So when the Borg swarm the city, Brainiac-13's systems (the city itself) fight back, assimilating the Borg Collective (and the Phalanx they assimilated).

In but a few moments New York City is miraculously reborn from the ashes, utilizing Phalanx, Borg, and Brainiac-13 technologies to become a shimmering, futuristic skyline. It doesn't stop there, however, as the alien technology spreads worldwide, consuming everything (save life forms) in a matter of hours. And though there is initial fright, the change is for the better -- people don't have to worry about anything any more (jobs, war, government), as everything is taken care of for them by the new world leader: Brainiac-14.
