  1. Can't wait to see Dr Manhatten walk across America.

"Dr Manhatten, you can teleport anywhere instantly, why are you walking? And put some pants on, for God's sake!"

Also Doc Manhatten will describe how leaving wet socks in the shower helps him envision the whole of space and time.

  2. I won't be buying any of these but I like a lot of the talent involved and I'm interested in seeing the Kuberts' art.

I don't see the point, but I fully endorse Gibbons' reaction which is to wish the people involved well even if he has nothing to do with it. As someone else said, with JMS involved there's a good chance two of these projects will remain unfinished.

  3. I've only recently found out about Mike Kunkel's run on Captain Marvel. That seems like a fantastic fit, shame that they killed it after four issues.

DC's finally announced their worst kept secret since Superman coming back to life

Got to give them this: That's a very strong set of talent. It'll be great to see Andy and Joe Kubert team up.

    Other future DC projects:

    V: The Larkhill Years

    Dr Gull, Medicine Man

Evey Hammond and the Mystery of the Disappearing Patels

  4. Walking Dead volume 15. A relatively quiet trade as life in the gated community continues. Generally how it goes with Walking Dead in that odd trades act as a set up and then even trades work as the pay off. Not entirely sure how much longer the perpetual bleakness can go on but I'm sure that Kirkman will find a way.

The Boys issues 61 & 62. Things are definitely moving towards the endgame here, with Butcher giving Wee Hughie the ultimate test of his new found pacifism. As much as I've enjoyed Butcher, Baker, Candlestick maker it'll be nice to get Darick Robinson back on the series proper.

2000AD Prog 2012 and Prog 1764. The year end prog is once again a fantastic piece of work with a Judge Dredd story that doubles as a Choose Your Own adventure strip. Artwork by Higgins is fantastic, The other strips are also particularly good with the only duff one being Sinister Dexter. Nikolai Dante begins the first part of his final tale "The Wedding of Jena Makarov" and it looks like it'll be explosive. In Prog 1764 the final prelude to "Judge Dredd; Day of Chaos" ends and I'm not sure where it's going. The East Meggers have their hands on a virus that will make Block Mania look like a polite scuffle and PJ Maybe on the loose, I have no idea where this story is going, but I'm excited for it. Nikolai Dante continues apace. Not too sure about Grey Area yet, but I felt the same way about Kingdom which turned out to be one of Abnett's best stories in years.

    Comics: 5 || Collections: 1 || Graphic Novels: 0

  5. e-mail me if there's anything you need to be caught up on with 2000AD. With where you're starting, you'll be coming in on the closing chapters of the final Nikolai Dante story and the action should just be kicking off for the latest Judge Dredd mega epic "Day of Chaos."

  6. If you're willing to step outside of Superhero books, I can highly recommend Box Office Poison as a great slice of life book. It's the size of a telephone book,(about 600 pages) so should keep you going for a while. I keep threatening Tom with it as a previously collected trade for WFTT.

As a celebration of everything great and goofy about the Silver Age, you can't go wrong with Supreme by Alan Moore, Rick Veitch et al. I was fortunate enough to find both books in quick succession a couple of years ago

The fella in my avatar is Nikolai Dante and there's been a US edition of his first collection that was printed a few months ago. Nikolai is a young thief making his way through a 27th Century Russia which is at the head of an interstellar empire. He gets caught up in the dynastic struggle between the two main houses, the Makarovs headed by Tsar Valdimir the Conqueror, and the Romanovs, the oldest house in the Empire headed by Dmitri Romanov who dreams of becoming Tsar himself one day soon. It has a great mix of comedy and action and has a lot of dramatic weight to it as well. It's been going for 14 years in 2000AD and, while it doesn't run in real time like Judge Dredd, it does progress so that, as of the latest story about 11 years have passed, It's actually a story I've grown up with, which is why I've dedicated twice the word count to it than the other recommendations.

  7. D'Israeli really is a brilliant artist. So far every story he's done with Ian Edington has turned out gold. Starting with Kingdom of the Wicked, then Scarlet Traces, this and finally Stickleback (which should be starting its fourth series soon.) I'd say Leviathan was where D'Israeli made his biggest strides art wise. As Tom said, the artwork in the book is just gorgeous.

He has a blog where he discusses some of his work. It's really worth checking out just to see some of his recent work, which, oddly enough, includes some Kaiju.

  8. The Renesmee bit had me howling. As per Stavros, the only tangible benefit of the Twilight series is that it's helped produce the greatest Rifftrax of all time (although Last Airbender is pretty close)

I read a thing a few years ago about how someone was really looking forward to Breaking Dawn because he didn't see how they were going to keep all the batshit insanity in. From the sounds of your review, they found a way.
