  1. Dim the lights, slather on some greasepaint and dust off your all-black wardrobe. To celebrate the 200th episode of Earth-2.net: The Show, Jenny and Mike sat down to discuss The Crow! First they explore the origins of the goth / punk icon by reviewing the James O'Barr comic book. Afterwards they set their sights on the 1994 film starring Brandon Lee. Also, the winner of the big, mysterious prize is finally announced! [ 3:35:41 || 98.7 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_200.mp3
  2. The story opens in a boardroom in the offices of the Sci Fi Channel, June 2007. Along both sides of a long conference table, channel executives fidget nervously and spit angry recriminations at each other. Suddenly, the double doors swing open, and network president Bonnie Hammer angrily storms in. Her twin hellhounds circle her, growling and snapping at any production assistants that might wander too close. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/toland/sci-fi
  3. Gaming has recently fallen into the traps of dogmatic allegiance, a sort of hero worship that puts several creators, companies and even certain franchises up on a level beyond criticism. Anyone that offers resistance is deemed either desperate for attention or someone that simply doesn't "get it." When Shakespeare is pointed out for his blatant melodrama, it's dismissed; when Spielberg is accused of commercialism, many film experts scoff; and when Suda 51 is called to task for poor game design, gamers around the world unite in a loud proclamation of "Punk's Not Dead!" 4. Like a dummy, Superman lets two criminal Kryptonians out of the Phantom Zone ("Blasts from the Past"). He then has to stop a giant creature from feeding on all of the world's energy ("The Prometheon"). And then three DCAU mainstays are introduced: Livewire, The Flash and Bizarro ("Livewire," "Speed Demons" and "Identity Crisis," respectively). Andrew gives listeners of Dread Media a special offer, and Desmond bitches about Platinum Dunes a little. Tunes include: "In the Mouth of Madness Main Theme" by John Carpenter and Jim Lang, "The Art of Subconscious Illusion" by Avenged Sevenfold, "Release the Kracken" by Clutch and "Melt" by Monster Magnet. 7. This isn't World's Finest Podcast and it isn't the Is It Wednesday Yet? segment, so why are both James Deaux and Desmond Reddick on Earth-2.net: The Show this week? That's because James and Mike review Justice League: The New Frontier, and then Des joins Mike to discuss Witchblade #116. 8. Normally my reviews start off talking about my experience with the subject, or sometimes they beat around the bush. Several have played coy, while others lamented the internal logic of the series. And a few others begged a question before moving on, a question I would later answer. In this case, none of that is needed, because I feel it's best just to get to the point; simply put, Darwyn Cooke is a genius, and DC: The New Frontier is a masterpiece. 9. The months before my 13th birthday began what was to become a lifelong love affair with one man's work. I had heard the name Jack Kirby before but never actually knew of his impact. After all, it was always said that Stan Lee created everything at Marvel. But it was Todd McFarlane's name that sold me on Satan's Six #1. It wasn't Todd's art that sold me; he inked Kirby's cover. When I bought that issue, I had no idea what was in store for me. That was the year I became a fan of Jack Kirby. It was also the year he passed away. BioShock

When BioShock came onto the scene last year, critics and the Internet praised it alike. When I finally caved in and bought an Xbox 360 earlier this year, it was one of the first games I grabbed. It takes a lot to get me interested in an FPS, but something about a horror-themed first-person shooter set in a fictional underwater dystopia spoke to me. It's such a unique concept that I knew I had to give it a shot. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/bioshock

    Episode 28

  14. In this extra-sized episode, Jenny and Mike discuss their recent trip to Disney World. Highlights include a medical emergency aboard the plane, a lost child, an illness caused by freezing rain, a lackluster movie and a forty-niner. A forty-niner? Yeah, sort of. After that, Jenny and Mike go through the March Previews catalog, and Ian Wilson reviews two Will Smith movies: I Am Legend and Men in Black. Plus: an addition to Earth-2.net is announced! 15. After eight months of preemptions and lackluster ratings, the writing was on the wall for The Flash. This is a damn shame, because what follows is the best run of episodes this series produced, and nobody saw them. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/m/flash-03
  16. Poor Superman. His life is never easy. In this batch of episodes, the intergalactic bounty hunter known as Lobo is hired to abduct Superman ("The Main Man"). Then Clark discovers that his high school sweetheart, Lana Lang, is now dating Lex Luthor ("My Girl"). Darkseid is supplying mob boss Bruno Manheim with advanced weaponry ("Tools of the Trade"). And someone has taken control of the Parasite's body ("Two's a Crowd"). [ 2:23:23 || 65.6 MB ] The above is from: http://www.worldsfinestpodcast.com/episodes/wfp_023.mp3

  20. It has been years since I delved into an RPG, despite the fact that RPGs may very well be my favorite genre of video games. The last RPG that I completed was the underwhelming Xenosaga II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose back in 2005. The closest I came to buying a new RPG since then was one of the Legend of Heroes remakes for the PSP about a year ago. However, after reading many mediocre reviews of that series, I decided not to buy them. Truthfully, I'm not sure why I never took a chance on any of the dozens upon dozens of RPGs that have come out in the last two years. Maybe it was because I was hopelessly looking for something to match the unbridled joy I get every time I play through Xenogears, which to this day is still my favorite video game ever. Well, I never found that kind of ecstasy again, but I did find a game in late 2007 that really caught my eye - Eternal Sonata for the Xbox 360. 21. Like comics, action films are marketed heavily at young people and it makes sense that any comic book movie is made as accessible to its audience as possible to reap the maximum profit. However, pitching a film as an OC clone in tights is a horrible idea. I can thank the WGA strike for helping to put the proposed JLA film on ice, but there are so many reasons why films created with the sole intention of appealing to teenagers are often dead in the water. 22. Jenny and Mike might be on vacation, but that doesn't mean they've left you empty-handed. Before heading off to celebrate Mike's 30th birthday, they sat down to record their thoughts about the haunting independent film Right at Your Door. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_196.mp3
  23. TV shows on DVD are popular enough that Hollywood went on strike over them. However, they can get pretty expensive, especially if, like me in this scenario, you're not a diehard fan of the show in question and just want to watch an episode or two. I therefore present to you possibly the most important thing you will ever read in your life: if I'm not going to buy a TV series, what discs should I order from Netflix? The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/m/flash-01
  24. James and Mike continue the discussion of Superman: The Animated Series by examining five more episodes: "Fun and Games," "A Little Piece of Home," "Feeding Time," "The Way of All Flesh" and "Stolen Memories." All that, plus a slew of listener feedback! [ 1:53:34 || 51.9 MB ] The above is from: http://www.worldsfinestpodcast.com/episodes/wfp_022.mp3
