  1. Who I'd Want to Be: Spike Speigal, definitely. I'd have the time of my life flying around the universe catching bounties. Sure, he gets the crap beaten out of him a lot, but you take the bad with the good. The exciting life would be worth it.

Who I'd Probably Be: Someone like Shin from Cowboy Bebop... pop in for an episode or two, kick a little ass, then get killed or just disappear, never to be heard from again. That wouldn't be so bad, actually. :P

  2. Today, I went to a Dark Horse Manga panel first. The guy who was representing DH was one of their editors and he passed out some copies of titles they are about to release and at least two of them are ones I will be IMMEDIATELY buying when they hit shelves. The one I'm most excited about is about this group of people who can communicate with the dead. However, the reason that they can communicate with certain dead people is because these dead bodies/souls cannot pass on to the next life for some reason. They died carrying a grudge, or had feeling of revenge not achieved, or guilt, or remorse, whatever. So, the dead persons hire this group of people to investigate something for them that will help them resolve their unfinished business and allow them to go to the afterlife in exchange for whatever they can give as payment--be it jewelry they were buried with, the winning lottery numbers for next Friday, whatever. It's very cool and I think it has tons of potential.

What's the title of that one? It does sound pretty interesting, and I'd like to keep an eye out for it.

At 12:30am, I went and watched some hentai. Now, I didn't want to (for reasons that should be pretty obvious), but as I walked by the room where they were showing it, there was laughter filling the entire hallway from inside the closed doors. So, it occurred to me that, given how incredibly cheesy and awful hentai "plots" are, it would make for some great late-night comedy with some fellow anime fans. And ooooohhhhh was it ever. (We had a DS Pictochat going during the movies, too.) The one I watched had this guy who was a porn manga writer and he was trying to write this porn manga anthology, so to get all the work done within a month, he had this ridiculous pseudo-transformation sequence called "Hyper Erection Mode" where he spun around and did goofy-ass poses (with no nudity, thank heaven) and got him in the mood to write erotic fiction. It happened so many times in the movie that a group of guys sitting a few rows away from me stood up and acted it out every time it happened. That shit was even better than the morbidly bad dialogue.

Ha, you don't get stuff like that at Anime Expo. If we did, I probably would have watched it for the sheer bizarreness of it. Still, there was plenty of amusement to be found by scouring the hentai DVDs in the dealer's room. The sheer hilarity of some of those covers was glorious, really. Hentai is just something else, haha.

  3. I finally saw Advent Children just now, and I liked it just fine. The plot is just there, for me... it isn't bad, but it felt a bit rushed and I never got into it too much. However, I can't deny that the visuals are astounding, and the fights are just incredible to watch. I enjoyed the touches of humor, as well. Loz's cell phone playing the FF "Victory Fanfare" theme during his fight with Tifa got a nice laugh from me (Loz is great in general, actually; he's the only "remnant" I liked). Reno and Rude were also hilarious in this. The look of anguish on Rude's face when Reno accidentally stepped on his sunglasses while they were battling Loz and Yazoo cracked me up. Seeing all of the characters pop up and kick some ass is fun, though I agree with James that more of Vincent would have been nice. I was hoping for a good, profanity-laced tirade from Cid too. Maybe next time. :shakehead:

Anyway, AC met my expectations pretty easily - I expected a fun add-on to FFVII rather than something that would stand up to the epic story that FFVII offered, so it didn't disappoint me at all.

  4. Wow, that's pretty cool. I barely read Watchmen for the first time about a month and a half ago, actually (I'm a late adopter, to say the least...), so this'll be nice to spot a few things I probably missed. :P

  6. Ghostbusters, yeah. I don't really have a lot to say. I watched it over Christmas (it was on one of the Starz! channels), and I kind of agree that the content was a bit mature for a PG rating, but, what are you going to do. They can't realistically go back and watch every PG and R-rated film from before the PG-13 rating and see which ones should be PG-13.

Oh, I agree, and I hope I didn't come off as a prude. It's just that, after all these years of having PG-13 around, it's shocking to hear "shit" and "dick" and see all of the sexual innuendo in a PG film. Even if it was produced before the creation of the rating.

I don't think that you come off as a prude. I actually thought the same thing when I first saw Airplane!, haha.

  7. Psycho's definitely up there, and I was probably one of the very few people to not have known beforehand that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father when the original Star Wars trilogy was re-released into theaters. Seeing The Empire Strikes for the very first time with a bunch of screaming fans is still my greatest theater experience. :)
