Wow; I had no idea he was that young. He played a seemingly older character extremely well.
-
Yeah, from everything we've seen thus far, I think that this film will deserve a sequel. Hell, the new trailer deserves a sequel.
-
I know Iron Man is slightly obscure, but at least he was recognizable easily by average people who may have seen the cartoon in passing in the 90's.
And his character makes instant sense to a mass audience.

To just remove Cable's backstory like that is an extremely sneaky maneuver that I don't think can work. It's as if 20th Century Fox made an exact copy of a Superman film but changed the name of the hero to "Ultraman".
It turned out okay the first time.
Captain Marvel is an entirely different character with a completely different story. If he'd been the last surviving alien of a dead planet and an intrepid reporter with a snarky female partner, you'd be correct.

I believe Fox owns the rights to every mutant.
Yeah, and Cable has too many well-established ties to X-men continuity. Heck, currently his character literally has the fate of mutantkind hanging from his neck. He IS an X-man; there's no way around that.
To just remove Cable's backstory like that is an extremely sneaky maneuver that I don't think can work. It's as if 20th Century Fox made an exact copy of a Superman film but changed the name of the hero to "Ultraman" or something like that (except that in this Cable idea, the name wouldn't even be changed).
If all it takes to write a story with a character is to remove his plot-related ties to his original incarnation, then our entire legal system for copyright laws is extremely messed up.
Why not just make a new character? Why does it have to be Cable, whose entire genesis involves the Summers family and the Mutant Liberation Front?
I believe Fox owns the rights to every mutant.Well, the Avengers movie didn't need Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch anyway. It's not like their important characters in the history of the team.
Honestly, they were only in the old Avengers comics because they were already pre-existing in Marvel continuity. It was like "hey, why not?"
I think that the New Avengers storylines have proven that you don't need anyone beyond Captain America and Iron Man to really make a team the Avengers.

As someone who doesn't hold DKR in very high regard, I thought it lived up to it quite well.
You like being contradictory, eh?
I thought that DKR was a very deep and original look at Batman (as well as Superman to a degree), filled with tons of great psychological moments.
DKSA was a sex-filled thrillride that had Wonder Woman and Superman frakking through the skies and causing tidal waves that slaughtered an entire American navy fleet.
-
I'm saying that if they aren't trying high action, then what are they trying for? If it was a psychological impact, which the Tim angle and Bruce's short gruffness (that's new!) over Joker leads me to believe, then I think they failed miserably.
See, I still think that the action in ROTJ was really great, and the development of Terry as the true Batman was something that the series was sorely missing. I think that Rebirth, RotJ, and Epilogue all come together in an epic "Batman Beyond Trilogy."
And BTW, The Dark Knight Strikes Again had to be the most disappointing and awkward comic-book sequel ever.

Isn't "American Jesus" just another name for "Superman"?
-
Is this an endorsement of Spider-Man 2 or Smallville? I ask because I hate them both.
Spider-man 2. And I think that you'd be in the minority there. (though it's not my favorite either)
The idea is that sometimes good people make bad decisions; we shouldn't be quick to judge based on only one film. It's not like it's Uwe Boll or something.
-
I can't believe that no one has mentioned that one of those people running the show was also behind the Mist, one of the worst films ever made. That's a shot of confidence.
The scriptwriters behind Spider-Man 2 are the same people who ran Smallville for the first seven years. I think we can give that person the benefit of a doubt.

Looks eerily like Aaron Eckhart.
...
No it doesn't?
-
I think its appeal is more to do with Hamill voicing the Joker causing boners to BTAS fans and that doesn't do much for me.
Nah; it's the fluid-yet-brutal animation, the snappy dialogue, the mystery story, and the character development of Terry.
-
I just watched RotJ and I was, to be honest, quite underwhelmed. There were episodes of the series I liked a lot more.
I still have to listen to this episode and I'm looking forward to hear what you felllas have to say.
I had the same initial reaction, but it gets much better with repeated viewings. After a while, it'll be your favorite.

Effeminate male romantic interest: check.
Physically clumsy female lead character: check.
Lots of staring: check.
Obvious sexual symbolism: check.
Twilight already IS anime.

Makes as much sense as rebooting the entire James Bond franchise.
But... that actually worked out...

I can't believe they're making another stargate series, although I did enjoyed watching the first 8 seasons of SG-1 (only took about a month). Still it seems like enough is enough. I will inevitably watch it though. After all, isn't that what being a fan is all about?
Yeah. Supposedly this show is going to be vastly different, with far less humanoid alien races.
All I can think about now is that magma puddle monster from Star Trek.

Hey! I’m sure someone spent several minutes deciding what font the text should be.
Well, it is a rather attractive font.
-
Am I the only one who's NOT looking forward to this series?
It's like Battlestar without the epic journey, spaceships, and military drama.
Sure it'll have great characters and family drama, but I'm not sure I'll care about it as much without the heavy sci-fi influence. If they jump forward in time and show us the Cylon war, though, I'll be more than thrilled.

So apparently the search function doesn't work as well as it should. My search for "SyFy" completely passed over this thread. w/e.
Yeah, this change makes NO sense to me.
-
So in case others hadn't heard, the SciFi channel is now being renamed to "SyFy" in order to have a brandable, marketable name, as well as to "bring in a bigger audience."
Old.
New.
Is anyone else confused/stupefied by this?
-
How can you pick and choose when you said there is no such thing as bad press?
My apologies. I was specifically referring to bad press for a movie.
So is anyone else jazzed about this film just from the perspective of it being the only modern "Robot Apocalypse" movie, set in the ultimate robot apocalypse storyline?
-
Tell that to Paul Reubens.
That was entirely different. It had to do with him as a person, and it wasn't linked to a movie that needed press.
-
"Colonel Tigh talks like a pirate."
It's true! How many times did he go "ARRR" in every episode?
-
It's entirely possible that I missed it, so thanks for the clarification there.
No problem.
Let me have my one ridiculous ship theory.
Hahaha, very well.
One thing that I loved but forgot to mention was
how Anders was in the middle of hybrid-speak but tossed in a "lay off the power? You got it" in-between his technical talk. It was a great "gung-ho" moment that showed us that he was still in there somewhere.
Oh, and how cool were the old-school cylons?

I remember reading right after the release of MiB2 that the studio was VERY unhappy with the film, and wanted to wait until they had a new film that lived up to the first's legacy.
