Last Line #1: not for me.

Moon Knight #15: this is a bit of a step down in quality for me. The DID stories are never er as exciting as when something is happening for real.

New Fantastic Four #4: this rules. Really fun. Of course the OG team (well, She-Thing is there) shows up to help out in issue 4.

Punisher #6: fucking hell. wild shit.

That Texas Blood #17: this book is so good.

Batman: Knightwatch #1: not for me at all.

The Vineyard #2: great.

Amazing Spider-Man #8, 9: still great. Sadly 9 was tied up in Krakoan X-Men nonsense, but 8 was the best issue thus far. Great series. No Romita on 9, but Patrick Gleason is a decent replacement for one issue.

A Righteous Thirst For Vengeance #12: perfect ending.

Alien #1: nahhh...I'm good.

Batman vs. Robin #1: ehhh....not so into this.

Castle Full of Blackbirds #1: decent first issue. I'll do another.

Daredevil #3: fuck yeah!

Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League -Wonder Woman #1: hell no.

Lovercraft-Unknown Kadath #1: did not expect this to be this good. I'm down for more.

Maskerade #1: I gave Kevin Smith a try again. Not anymore.

I'm reading through a Flash collection I got for Christmas, when I saw this pic. My first thought was that it was an art error. Then I realized, no! The Green Lantern rings were still weak against yellow, so Wally's boots would go right through the bubble! Sometimes it the little things that stand out.

3Keys #1: haha! Same title as a WIP of mine, but still quite different. I was ready to hate this, but kind of liked it. I'll give it another.

All-Out Avengers #2: this series wastes no time. Fantastic.

Amazing Spider-Man #10-25: this series is great. From Tombstone to Vulture to TWO Hobgoblins, Spidey has had his ass handed to him several times in this run, but I find it weird that the Dark Web crossover had him fight Ben Reilly (now he's called Chasm I guess?) teamed up with Madelyne Pryor. So a senior citizen with no superpowers and a suit that flies can kick Spider-Man's ass, but a legion of demons is cool? Weird.

Basilisk #12: GREAT ending. Probably could have been ten issues all said and done, but still a fun journey.

Batman One Bad Day: The Penguin #1: this was fucking fun. It's basically the length of a three issue miniseries, but I could have easily read more of this story. Great art too.

Batman/Superman World's Finest #7, 8: this was really fun.

Batman: The Knight #9, 10: excellent.

Batman Incorporated #1: eh...I'm out.

Batman Vs. Robin #2: not super into this, but I'll read another.

Black Adam #4: this rules.

Bloodshot Unleahsed #1, 2: good start, but I don't know how well they're going to keep this going...aka the Valiant Curse

Bone Orchard: Ten Thousand Black Feathers #1, 2: RIGHT up my alley!

Briar #1: I'm not poo-pooing this, but I probably won't read any more. It's being done better elsewhere.

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #5: this is great.

Carnage #5-7: I have to say, I'm not enjoying this run so much. I don't want to see Carnage in Niffleheim.

Castle Full of Blackbirds #2: solid.

Creepshow #1, 2: these were fun.

Crypt of Shadows #1: man...how long has it been since Marvel gave a shit about their horror characters? Too long. It's still going on.

Damage Control #1: ugh. Can't stand this art. Too bad, really. One of the best ideas in comics ever.

Damn Them All #1: ok, Is Spurrier is obviously a Warren Ellis acolyte, because this reads like an Ellis book. It's good though.

Daredevil #4: this rules.

Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1: this is the only one shot tie-in to this great event series that I actually liked. That's because it's not one of those Worlds Without a Justice League oneshots...

Dark Crisis Worlds Without a Justice League Green Lantern #1: speaking of... This was the best of all of those WWAJL tie-ins, but that's not saying much.

Dark Crisis on infinite Earths #5: excellent

Dark Ride #1: interesting first issue. I'll do another.

DC Vs. Vampires #9, 10: this series holds up and is surprisingly good. Not much of a surprise, Tynion is killing it.

Dead Mall #1: a little horror mini from author Adam Cesare. Pretty decent first issue.

Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1: I LOVE Juan Ferreyra's artwork, and it's the only thing that brought me to the end of the issue. I won't be reading more though.

Defenders Beyond #1-4: not as good as the first series, but still kind of fun. One more to go.

DUO #5: still good.

Earthdivers #4-13: god this series is so fucking nuts. So damn good. Has an author ever done their first comic book series and had it come out this good? I contend: no. This is awesome.

Eight Billion Genies #4, 5: this is great. Must have been a nightmare to plot this all out.

Firepower #24: fuck, this series is so good.

Flashpoint Beyond #6: this is fucking nuts. I can't believe there's another issue.

Flawed #1, 2: I am not entirely sure what the fuck is happening here, but I'm down for the time being.

Follow Me Down: A Reckless Book: I've mostly floated away from Brubaker and Phillips' epics since they lost the "Criminal" banner. Too hard to keep track of. This was excellent though.

GCPD The Blue Wall #1: did not have the highest expectations here, having been a fan of Gotham Central and Montoya in general, but opening the book to discover the art is by Stefano Raffaele is a great start. Great first issue too. No one even mentioned Batman. Glorious.

Ghost Rider #7: ok, this is cool. The image of Doctor Doom on a motorcycle still tickles me.

Gotham City Year One #1: Tom King and Phil Hester? Hell yes. Slam Bradley is the main character? HELL yes.

Heart Eyes #2: holy shit. This is good, but I had no idea where it was going from page to page and i love it.

Hack/Slash: Hot Shorts: oneshot anthology of H/S stories. Decent.

Halloween Party: another horror oneshot that turns out to be a bit of a mix of Predator and ET with a satirical eye. Not bad, but not great.

Hell is a Squared Circle: I'll call this a graphic novel as it's a bit longer than the oneshots above. Wrestling Noir seems to be becoming a thing.

Hellboy in Love #1: this was fun.

Hulk #9: good issue.

I Hate this Place #4, 5: this is done with Vol 2 coming soon I guess. I really enjoyed this. Weird sci fi horror.

Iron Man #23, 24: fucking great ending to this great run.

Junkyard Joe #1: great first issue.

Kaya #1: not a fan.

Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath #2: this is excellent.

Lovesick #1: whoa! Very similar to Red Room, but with an Italian twist.

The Man-Goat & The Bunnyman Green Eggs and BLAM! #2, 3: dumb fun. But I'm probably done with these guys going forward. Kinda same-same all the time.

Midnight Suns #1, 2: pretty fun first couple issues. Not my favourite team of characters, but still decent.

Minor Threats #1, 2: celebrity comics rarely stray from superhero pastiches and this is no different. Still fun.

Moon Knight #16: great issue.

Moon Knight Annual #1: good story.

Namor: Conquered Shores #1: pass

New Fantastic Four #5: great miniseries. I always wished there was more to the New FF from the 90s and this definitely scratches that itch.

Nightfall: Double Feature #1: fucking awesome. BOTH stories start out very strong.

Nyx #9: great!

Old Dog #1: I get it, but I don't know if I'll read more. Ironically have a pitch for DC going back years called Old Dogs that features an old spy and his daughter (AS WELL as similar super soldier vibes as this one).

Predator #2, 3: this is quite fun.

Public Domain #3-5: brilliant. Loved it.

Punisher #7-12: fucking excellent. Another amazing Punisher run for the ages. Some of Jason Aaron's best work.

Punisher War Journal: Brother #1: this was a fine tie-in. Unnecessary.

Revolvers #1: terrible. Cliched gruff detective stuff.

Rogue Sun #7: awful first issue of the arc. If the whole arc (or even one more issue) is choose your own adventure, I'm out.

Rogues #4: fucking great ending. Wild stuff.

Sacrament #2: ok, this is not the kind of sci fi I can get into. I'm out.

Savage Avengers #5-10: fucking great wrap-up. The rebooted series pales in comparison to the original, but this one's approach (going back in time rather than Conan coming forward) was used well and helped differentiate the series.

Scarlet Sisters: a Dynamite oneshot that isn't very good.

Sins of the Black Flamingo #3: nahhh...I can't keep going with this. I'm out.

Skybound Presents Afterschool #3: Image's horror afterschool specials continue. This is a solid one.

Star Trek #1: this is a direct sequel to DS9 and HOLY FUCK is that a good first issue? Yes, yes it is. Four of my all-time favourite Trek characters from three different shows are on one crew and I am down!

  • 4 weeks later...

2000AD #2-18: Got into a Judge Dredd kick, and these are solid short tales. This group also includes the first storyline, The Robot Wars, which very much sets up the world of Mega-City One as an oppressive place for some, and makes no bones about the Judges being authoritarian.

Detective Comics #1062-1065: This is the start of the Ram V run. It's different, I'll give it that, and I appreciate different when it comes to Batman stories. I'll see where it goes somewhere down the line.

The Incredible Hulk #1-6, Tales to Astonish #59-83: When Stan and Jack created The Hulk, it was clear they had no real direction for him besides "monster runs from the military." You can feel them trying to find their footing, while also slowly losing interest, so the end of the first run was a mercy killing. Then Steve Ditko is given Tales to Astonish and holy shit does it take off. Ditko gives us rage-changes, The Leader, Glenn Talbot, and Hulk being his own man with his own friends and feelings. I could read Ditko Hulk stories all day, but Kirby returned. Thankfully they don't drop Ditko's additions to Hulk, but the art is not great. That is, until Bill Everett joins as Jack's finisher, and the series has life once more. At the point I am now, I'm not sure Stan is scripting it - despite being credited. I'd bet money it's Roy Thomas. But, Stan's the credited writer until #101, when the book shifts to the second volume of The Incredible Hulk, so who knows.

Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #1-4: For decades now, I've wanted to get into Golden Age Sandman - based solely on his look. And this book did the trick. Absolutely loving it. And it finally got me to read...

Sandman Mystery Theatre #1-4: Wow. Just wow! This is everything I've wanted and more. However, a note: if you read the original physical (or scanned) comics, be prepared for anti-Semitism, racism, sexism. Not of the 1990s variety, but that of the late 1930s. The digitized reprints, however, edit this out.

WildCATs: Covert Action Teams #0, 1-4; WildCATs Special #1; WildCATs Trilogy #1-3: This tosses you right into a pre-built world and gives zero fucks if you understand a damn thing that's going on. I appreciate the balls of that. However, a lot of it does feel like slightly tweaked unused X-Men ideas.

Issues: 69 😎

Strange #6, 7: wow...ok. This is pretty damned good.

Stuff of Nightmares #1: nahhh...I'm good.

Super White Snake #1: uhm...picked this up, didn't know it was fumetti, gave it a shot anyway, realized about two pages in there's explicit nudity and then two pages later, hardcore porno. Wild ride.

Sweetie Candy Vigilante #1: no thanks.

Task Force Z #12: great ending to a weird series.

That Texas Blood #18: still great.

The Approach #1: good first issue. I'm down for more.

The Human Target #7, 8: still great.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #1: I'm intrigued.

The Nice House On The Lake #10: still excellent

The Riddler Year One #1: when hollywood folk come over to write their first comic, it always comes out looking like mediocre superhero nonsense or Vertigo ripoff. This is the latter. But it isn't anywhere near as good as the stuff it's trying to rip off. Stick to movies. Don't comic book 'em, Dano.

The Roadie #1, 2: I was prepared to hate on this, and while I don't love the art, the story is pretty great.

The Sandman Universe Nightmare Country #6: much less than a final issue, it's more like an epilogue to the story and a prologue for where it will continue in Dead Boy Detectives. Not the biggest fan of this issue (feels kind of exploitative to the reader) but I'm glad I know that these TSU series are connected.

The Silver Coin #14, 15: The end of the first run of the series. Brilliant. Looking forward to it picking up again.

There's Something Wrong with Patrick Todd #3: still right up my alley.

Thor #27, 28: fun.

Thunderbolts #2, 3: ok, this is really fucking fun.

Tim Drake: Robin #1: Tim is my Robin. I used to adore Rossmo's art. I can't do it here. The story is too cutesy and the art is not for me.

Titans United: Bloodpact #1: cheap and easy way to do an alternate reality story. I dig it so far.

Trve Kvlt #2, 3: I find this a little goofy and a little lame that it isn't heavy metal-themed (because the title is used to refer to original Black Metal bands), but I am at least a little invested.

Unbreakable Red Sonja #1: ok, this was pretty damned good. Almost didn't bother to give it a shot. Interesting take. I'll read more.

Vampirella Mind Warp #1, 2: well, lookee there. A good Vampirella book and a good Red Sonja book coming out at the same time? Mindblowing.

Venom #10-12: fucking great.

Wakanda #1: nope. I'm out. I just find Shuri to be the most obnoxious character.

Wild Cards: Drawing of Cards #3, 4: fuck, this rules. So good. Such an amazing adaptation of that first book.

X-Men Legends #2, 3: issue 2 as the second part of the Roy Thomas Dave Wachter story on Wolverine and Jack Diamond before Giant Size X-Men #1. Issue 3 is a Mojoworld thing and I have never really enjoyed that.

Justice League International annual #5: from 1994...man what a fucked up year to be doing the Elseworlds annual event.

Inferior Five: this trade collects the six issue series. I recall reading the first issue when it came out a couple years back. I was like "this is a wait for the trade thing" and it certainly is. Also weird is it was shortened from 12 issues to six on short notice. Saddens me to think we could have had a lot more Giffen/Lemire team-ups. Fascinating. Lots of obscure characters here. Tasmanian Devil is funny to see here because I just read that JLI annual and he's in it. Haven't seen him in a modern comic in thirty years and boom, he's in this. This was really good. I wish there was more, but I thought it was clever how they wrapped it up.

3Keys #2: this was fine. Will I read more? Maybe...

Astronaut Down #4: this sci fi book is nuts. I dig it.

Avengers Forever #8-10: this series is so fun.

Batman Vs. Robin #3: I am not liking this. I prefer my Batman and Robin to not be involved with ancient chinese death gods.

Behold, Behemoth #1: hmmm....I'll need one more before I decide whether to read more.

Black Panther: Unconquered #1: this was pretty decent, but not enough for me to read more.

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #6: this series is so fucking good.

Dark Crisis #6: excellent.

Dark Ride #3: I think I'm done with this one.

Deadpool #1: Wasn't gonna, but might have to after the cliffhanger.

Fantastic Four #1: just a tiny little Thing and Alicia story with a huge cliffhanger. Interesting way to kick off the new run.

Ghost Rider #8: still really good.

Gospel #1: I'm not interested.

Gotham City Year One #2: jesus...so much story in two issues that don't feel bogged down. It's so breezy. Supreme lesson in comics writing. Hester's art is just gorgeous. Been a long time since I've seen him on something. This is career peak stuff. Brilliant.

Heart Eyes #3: Fucking hell, this series is fucking crazy.

Hulk #10: ok, I see where this is going.

Lord of the Jungle #1: Dan Jurgens retells Tarzan's origin with the framing sequence leading into the story of this series. Great art from an Italian guy who is reminiscent of Moebius on his Blueberry work. Good stuff.

Minor Threats #3: fun

Moon Knight #17: badass

Predator #4: also badass. I dig this series.

Radiant Black #17-19: huge developments in this universe. Good stuff. 18 was a great issue. I've read comics that have three separate timelines before but few are done that well.

Sabretooth & The Exiles #1: well, look at that. I dug this quite a bit. Crazy lineup of characters (2 of whom I have no idea who they are, and then a bunch of obscure weirdos. Right up my alley.

Secret Invasion #1: I guess they published this when the TV show came out? Never bothered with the show, but this issue was pretty good. I'll read more.

Skybound Presents Afterschool #4: fucking awesome issue.

Specs #1: great first issue. I'm down for more.

Spider-Man The Lost Hunt #1: snooooooze

Star Trek: Ferengi: a oneshot that REALLY feels like a DS9 Quark/Rom episode. Good stuff.

That Texas Blood #19: is that it? The series is done? Too bad. I would have read more arcs.

The joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #2: oh, ok, I kind of get what's going on here. I might have missed that from the previous issue or from a previous Bat-comic.

The New Golden Age #1: great reintroduction to the JSA.

The Nice House on the Lake #11: second to last issue. Kind of ho hum if I'm being honest.

The Ones #1: I really enjoyed this.

Titans United Bloodpact #2: good issue.

Traveling to Mars #1: intriguing sci fi concept.

Two Graves #1: holy shit. Wild cosmic horror.

Vampirella vs Red Sonja #1: more multiversal drek.

Venom #13: great issue.

X-Men Legends #4: the finale of the Longshot/Mojoworld story so, meh. Next issue is an early Bishop story with Portacio art, so I am stoked for that.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest #9: this continues to be fun

Batman One Bad Day: Mr. Freeze: this was excellent.

Black Adam #5, 6: hmmm...I'm losing interest.

Blade: Vampire Nation #1: excellent issue. I don't quite know where or when this new Vampire status quo happened in the Marvel universe, but I dug this.

Book of Shadows #1, 2: cool

Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League: Batman #1: this one was the best of the bunch. Admittedly, it wouldn't take much, but this one was cool.

Captain America and the Winter Soldier Special #1: more background for what's going on in CA: Sentinel of Liberty and I am here for it.

Canary #3: lost its magic for me. I'm out.

Door to Door: Night by night #1: fun first issue.

Frankenstein New World #2, 3: so fun. Love the frog dudes.

Duo #6: excellent. Still weird they took the Xombi setup and made kind of a new character up.

Gold Goblin #1: great

GCPD The Blue Wall #2: this is still great. I have to reread Gotham Central.

Junkyard Joe #2: lovely.

Iron Man #25: excellent end to this run. Incredible run on this book.

Kroma #1: didn't light me on fire. I might give it one more.

Murderworld: Avengers #1: this is just Squid Game with Arcade in charge. Lame. I won't read anymore of these.

New America #2, 3: this is fucking great.

Something is Killing the Children #26: still so damned good.

Stargirl The Lost Children #1: is the TV show in continuity? Confusing. Fun, nonetheless.

The Deadliest Bouquet #4: I'm out.

The Human Target #9: still awesome.

Thunderbolts #4: ONLY ONE MORE ISSUE? Laaaaaaaame! I want more. This is fun stuff. Love having Persuasion around. Glad she isn't stuck in Krakoa like all my other favourite mutants. For now...

Trve Kvlt #4: this issue was definitely too wordy. Especially for something with this comedic tone.

Vampirella Mindwarp #3: still really good.

All-Out Avengers #3: this is a very intriguing way to tell a story in an all-action comic book. There's no downtime, so the characters figure out the overarching story from apocalyptic battle to apocalyptic battle.

Avengers Forever #11: kinda pissed we're going the whole series before revealing Avenger Prime. But at least it's been consistently good.

Creepshow #3: still pretty good.

Daredevil #5: this consistently rules.

DC vs Vampires #11: looking forward to the finale.

Avengers Assemble Alpha #1: so good.

Avengers #63: this rules so much.

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #1: I wouldn't be giving issue two a shot if this wasn't drawn by Marc Silvestri.

Damn Them All #2: meh...I think I'm done here.

Dead Mall #2: I think we're done here.

Flawed #3: same. Couldn't explain the plot of this if I had a gun to my head.

Justice Society of America #1: I think I've seen this storyline before...but I'm sticking around for a little bit.

Koschei in Hell #1: pretty decent.

Lovesick #2: fucking nuts. Intrigued.

Plush #1: hahaha! Fucking deranged. I love it.

Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker #1: decent.

Rogue Sun #8: wrapping up an arc, establishing a new status quo and introducing a new villain all in one issue. Not bad.

Avengers Forever #12-15, Avengers #64-66, Avengers Assemble Omega #1: this was just the end of this huge storyline. Jason Aaron has officially left his mark on the Avengers. Holy shit. What a story! Multiversal Avengers is such a cool idea and it was executed so well. You love to see it!

Star Trek #2: fuck, this rules. They added another of my favourite Trek characters! WORF!!!

Strange #8: cool. Did not see this coming.

Superman Kal-El Returns Special #1: one and a half good stories. Pretty typical for this kind of shit.

The Approach #2: good stuff.

The Roadie #3: still good.

Dark Crisis: The Dark Army #1: not a huge Damian Wayne fan, but this was a fun issue.

The Unbreakable Red Sonja #2: nahhh...I'm good.

Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2: the art is fantastic, but the story is dogshit.

Defenders Beyond #5: crazy.

Doctor Strange Fall Sunrise #1: the art is absolutely wretched.

Fear of a Red Planet #1: not for me.

Eight Billion Genies #6: wild.

Midnight Suns #3: this was some crazy fun.

Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath #3: there are a hell of a lot of Lovecraftian comics (for the purposes of this statement: adapted from or heavily influenced by Lovecraft) available and there has been since the Fall of Cthulhu days. It is so rare to find one that actually pushes the boundaries of the medium. This is some solid storytelling.

Once Upon a Time at the End of the World #1: ehhhhh....not sure if I'll read more. Post-apocalyptic kids is kind of a big thing right now and I think it's pretty dumb for the most part.

3Keys #3: this was...fine.

All Against All #1: not for me.

Art Brut #1: this was awesome. I'm down for more.

Batman & The Joker: Deadly Duo #2: better than the first issue.

Batman/Spawn #1: so...correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't Spawn have the split face tied up with shoelaces because he caught a batarang in the face the first (or second) time he met Batman? He still has that face, but appears to not know who Batman is. I'm confused. Capullo's art was great, but otherwise feels like this is a miss.

Behold, Behemoth #2: This isn't clicking with me.

Bloodshot Unleashed #3: this was pretty damned good.

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #7: so fucking good still.

Castle Full of Blackbirds #3: I don't know if I'll read anymore.

Daredevil #6: fucking excellent.

Dark Crisis Big Bang #1: this was kind of a fun run through the multiverse.

Dark Crisis War Zone #1: fun look at some newer characters and some paths leading forwards for them.

Jack Kirby's Starr Warriors: I'll count this as a graphic novel. It's Tom Scioli's been a guy who's always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. But I thought I'd give him another shot with this, his reinterpretation of the first three Kirby Starr Warrior strips (before it was canceled). It's almost more of a storybook than anything else. I really did enjoy it though.

WildC.A.T.s Better Living Through Violence: this is the most recent DC run by Matthew Rosenberg and Stephen Segovia and it kind of fcking rules. Re-imagines the CATs in the DC universe. I dig it. Looking forward to volume two this year.

The Best of Simon & Kirby's Mainline Comics: Mainline was yet another publishing company Joe Simon and Jack Kirby started together. This was '54 and they published four titles for about five months before it was published by Charlton Comics and the two departed the company shortly thereafter. The books were Bullseye (a masked Western hero with almost supernatural aim and a target burned onto his chest by the rogue Native American that said he would come back to kill him). A lot of the action s so vibrant and really feels like early 60s Captain America by Kirby. Then there's Foxhole, a super intense war comic featuring short stories about Korea and WW2 with a  real grim sensibility. It's really awesome, heady adult stuff. I'll link to the best cover of the lot by Kirby right here. Them Police Trap which is a really tame (especially in comparison Foxhole) crime comic. Really boring to be honest. And then, In Love wasn't the first romance comic the two created (they invented the genre) and this one feels more adult than teenybopper which is appreciated. Great selection of all the Simon&Kirby work for the comics.

Fantastic Four #2: ok, I get what's happening here. Issue 1 was about Ben, this one is about Reed and Sue, the next one is about Johnny and in the 4th issue, the team comes together. Makes sense. This was an excellent story.

Gargoyles #1: This was fine. I've always loved the character designs of these characters and the idea of a castle being relocated to the top of a skyscraper. But the show came around a little too late for me to be interested in it any more than that.

Ghost Rider #9: fucking crazy

Gotham City Year One #3: this is so fucking good.

Heart Eyes #4: a real example of how to tell a story incrementally.

Hellboy in Love #2: this was ok.

Hexware #1: not for me.

It's Only Teenage Wasteland #1: ok, I'm intrigued.

Know Your Station #1: not for me

Miles Morales Spider-Man #1: this was decent enough to give it another issue.

Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #1: definitely not for me.

Predator #5: so fucking good.

Radiant Pink #1: ugh...terrible.

Rogue State #1: god, so many of these comics are the same.

Secret Invasion #2: this is pretty damned good.

Thanos: Death Notes #1: I'm interested to see where this goes.

That Texas Blood #20: fun if inconsequential story.

The Ones #2: still great.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #3: this is wild. Lots of fun.

Thor #29: this is the continuation of that Thanos issue. All part of a convoluted plot about Thor's grandfather and Death and Valkyries and all sorts of shit. Still, it's interesting so far.

Titans United: Bloodpact #3: good issue.

X-Treme X-Men #1: woof! It's super hard to read Claremont's dialogue these days. Could barely get through this issue.

Batman/ Superman World's Finest #10: this is a great issue.

Deadpool #2:  this was fun.

Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7: excellent ending. Kind of teared up a bit.

The Invincible Iron Man #1: this was pretty solid. Not really a new direction, but a continuation, which I appreciate. The last series was really good. I hope the same for this one.

Dead Seas #1: did not know what this was going in. Kind of a strange horror series. I'll give it one more.

Lord of the Jungle #2: pretty solid.

Lovecraft Unkown Kadath #4: still great.

Monica Rambeau: Photon #1: kind of fun. I'm not too partial to the MCU costume, but it looks really good in the comics. Again, this is my Captain Marvel.

GI Joe #300: it's not often I buy a book because of the cover, but if you look at it and can name a Joe character that isn't on it, I'll give you a cookie. This is the last issue of Hama's IDW run. I read a massive chunk of that run years ago, but left it alone for a while.  Then it goes to Image. I will follow it.

GCPD The Blue Wall #3: I've sung the praises of Raffaele's art before (he is one of my favourites) but John Ridley's writing is also a career best here. Just nailing ever issue, these guys.

Night Club #1: the newest Millar thing. I've defended his work in the past, but I don't think I need his take on vampires.

Gold Goblin #2: oof. Dark Web. This crossover gives me the ick.

Junkyard Joe #3: excellent. A robot with PTSD sees a man he served with in Vietnam being credited as his creator when in fact he only created a Sunday funnies strip of the top secret character, but Joe doesn't understand that and goes to him for help. So good. What an idea!

Planet Hulk: Worldbreaker #2: I don't think I need to read more of this.

Radiant Black #20: great issue. I enjoy Radiant Pink in this series because it isn't so wrapped up in "streaming" and shit.

Retroverse #1: intriguing. I'll do one more.

Mary Jane & Black Cat #1: I have problems beyond this being a Dark Web crossover. While I am enjoying the new Spider-Man status quo quite a bit, I honestly think the idea of Mary Jane having incredible superpowers to be asinine.

Specs #2: pretty simple riff on the Monkey's Paw story but an interesting diversion.

Rogue Sun #9: good issue

Noir Burlesque #2: pretty decent ending.

Stargirl: The Lost Children #2: ok...NOW the story can start.

Two Graves #2: I really don't know what the hell's going on here. I'm out.

Sabretooth and the Exiles #2: still pretty good.

Titans United Bloodpact #4: solid

Vampirella Mind Warp #4: great

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Agenda #1: I'm a little confused...is this supposed to have happened on the show after they arrested Una but before they tried to help her? I might have to rewatch that. Not the hugest fan of this art, but I'll stick around.

All-Out Avengers #4: a hell of a lot of fun.

Something is Killing the Children #27: not the most exciting issue of the run.

Strange #9: cool.

Action Comics #1050: this is sort of an: "establishing issue" for the Superman books. I'll check out the Superman series, but the others don't seem too interesting.

Thunderbolts #5: fucking fantastic.

The Roadie #4: great!

Bloodshot Unleashed #4: a hell of an issue

Traveling to Mars #2: great issue.

Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #1: not my thing. Art is a turn off, and I'm not very into this character in a solo book.

Book of Slaughter #1: this is in the SIKTC universe. Decent.

Trve Kvlt #5: ridiculous ending to a ridiculous book. Fun ride.

Carnage #8: great issue.

Creepshow #4: decent issue

Door to Door, Night By Night #2: there has been a shitload of story told in these first two issues. Unique premise for a "hunters of the supernatural" book.

Frankenstein: New World #4: good issue

Lovesick #3: absolutely deranged

Midnight Suns #4: ehh...a little lame.

Moon Knight #18: great issue

Plush #2: Jesus...also a lot of story in two issues.

Sulfer Wells #1: nahh...I'm good.

King Conan: tpb collecting the Marvel mini. Excellently told story in three timelines. Does Robert Howard proud.

Tales from Earth-6: A Celebration of Stan Lee: I'm going to refer to this as a graphic novel anthology. It's DC's tribute to the late Stan Lee, by publishing a book with a bunch of stories from the Just Imagine... event where Stan remade DC's most popular titles with his own takes. Some of the stories are excellent. Others are just there. Decent read overall.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #4: this is a great series.

The Nice House on the Lake #12: a pretty incredible finale. I did not, however, expect this to be the first part of the story. What a fucking tease!

The Last Annihilation: this trade collects the recent cosmic crossover. Man, modern Marvel is a mess. Wakanda is an interplanetary empire? WTF? Anyway, Dormammu possessed Ego the Living Planet and that was enough to get me to read it.

Venom #14: I can't believe Bryan Hitch is drawing Dark Web tie-ins, but this was good. Smart workaround to keep Venom out of the ridiculousness.

The Brave and the Bold #57-58: With the passing of Ramona Fradon, I thought I'd give her co-creation, Metamorpho, a try. Glad I did too, because her art grabs you from page one and holds on tight.

Showcase #34: With my Ant-Man reading through (more in a moment), I opted to try his DC counterpart. Only got one issue in, but he's so much more compelling after one issue than Hank was after a dozen. Hell, and I like Ant-Man.

Tales to Astonish #27, 35-69: For this, I went back and read the Ant-Man, Giant-Man, and Wasp stories, and I was shocked to discover Giant-Man is mostly boring. The stories are fun, but they have to find ways to make him weaker than Ant-Man to generate peril. Hank constantly refers to Janet as being scatterbrained, yet she never demonstrates this. He's just a prick to her. The Human Top is a majorly compelling villain, and Egghead is an absolute dork. Janet is Janet Van FUCKING Dyne, so she's always on fire.

Tales to Astonish #84-101, The Incredible Hulk #102: Continuing my look at the early years of The Hulk, and this book is wild. It has some downs for sure, but it drills into who The Hulk is, abandoning Banner for long stretches, so we get to know the man that people see as the monster.

Avengers: War Across Time #1: OG Avengers (this takes place directly after the 60s Avengers #11) taking on ultra-future King drawn by Alan Davis. OK

Gotham City: Year One #4: goddamn...still great. The art is fantastic. Top tier Hester.

Batman: Journey Into Knight #1: nawww...I'm good.

DC vs. Vampires #12: well, not the ending I expected.

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #3: this is nuts. Not a fan of the story. It's Silvestri that keeps me coming back.

Ten Thousand Black Feathers #3, 4: this is awesome.

Carnage #9: fucking nuts.

Scarlet Witch #1: off. Not good. I'm out.

Daredevil #7: so good. This art is great.

Ghost Rider #10: this is weird and fun and pretty gritty.

Lazarus Planet Alpha #1: hmmm...not sure I'll follow this one. Not the kind of story I'm interested in.

Astronaut Down #5: wild stuff. Good ending.

Children of the Black Sun #1: ok, this is VERY close to a WIP of mine. Damn.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #2: yeah, this isn't clicking with me.

Monica Rambeau Photon #2: kind of fun.

Moon Knight #19: good stuff.

Fantastic Four #2: I have my issues with this story. I look forward to the team being together.

Nemesis: Reloaded #1: quite violent and a little fun. I'll read another.

Godzilla Rivals: Gigan #1: awful art and a silly story.

Predator #6: man, that issue took like eight seconds to read.

It's Only Teenage Wasteland #2: ehhh....I might be out on this one.

Gold Goblin #3: another Dark Web tie-in that refuses to be bogged down in the muck. I dug it.

Joe Fixit #1: excellent. Love the art and love to see Fixit vs. Kingpin.

Something is Killing the Children #28: awesome.

Specs #3: I have my ideas of how this will end, but I'm enjoying reading it regardless.

Spawn Unwanted Violence #1: I'm a little confused...Al Simmons isn't Spawn anymore? I love the art so much I'll give it another.

Spy Superb #1: nah...story is goofy (not terrible) but the art I can't stand.

The Human Target #10: man, I never thought we'd get to G'Nort!

Stargirl: The Lost Children #3: what a creepy-ass design on The Childminder. Hell of a cool-looking villain.

Star Trek Klingons: a oneshot telling the story of Kahless. Pretty good.

The Ones #3: man, I loved this issue.

Titans United Bloodpact #5: solid issue.

Star Trek #3: fucking rules.

Vampirella Mind Warp #5: great ending.

Star Trek: Trill: this is an interesting one. It sort of takes a plot from a DS9 episode and alters it to perhaps introduce a new Trill host/symbiont combo? Perhaps for an upcoming comic? It doesn't appear as though this character has every appeared before.

Secret Invasion #3: this just got crazy.

Trojan #1: holy shit, that's wild. I dig this. Even though there is a real theme of Red Rooms in comic books lately. Possibly something troubling bubbling up culturally, methinks.

The Approach #3: this has kind of worn out its welcome.

X-Men Legends #5: Portacio on a Bishop prequel? Yes please.

3 Keys #4: this is also pretty crazy.

Art Brut #2: this is fucking nuts. I love this series. I'm reminded of Morrison's Doom Patrol run reading this.

Batman: One Bad Day Bane #1: absolutely awful.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest #11: interesting end to this story.

Black Adam #7: still interested.

Deadpool #3: crazy and still a little fun.

GCPD The Blue Wall #4: wow...hell of a cliffhanger.

Hulk #11: I'm ready for this volume to be done.

The Invincible Iron Man #2: this was good.

Nightfall Double Feature #2: cool. I don't dig this format, but I am enjoying the stories within it.

Retroverse #2: this is pretty fucking crazy.

Strange #10: crazy. Love it.

Venom #15: ok, I don't know who this other kid is, but I dig what's going on.

There's Something Wrong With Patrick Todd #4: fucking great.

Wasp #1: ok, I'm in.

Plush #3: so weird.

Midnight Suns #5: ok, I have literally twenty pitches for this book that are better than this series was. Far better. But it was still...fine.

Lovesick #4: deranged

Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath #5: still excellent.

Lord of the Jungle #3: good.

Justice Society of America #2: this is excellent. I love the idea of a Justice Society Dark from the 40s which includes the original Mister Miracle. I dig it immensely.

Batman: Catwoman: One Bad Day #1: ok, this one was excellent. Great art; great story.

Creepshow #5: the first story was played out "fountain of youth bargain" bullshit. The second story was fun but didn't even take the time to get going before the reveal. Too rushed.

Batman/Spawn: The Classic Collection: following the recent new release, I thought I'd dive in. While Miller/McFarlane's Batman isn't as deranged as the All-Star Miller/Lee Batman, he still calls Spawn "Stupid punk" like fifty times. Not an exaggeration. And I remembered correctly that that issue ENDS with a batarang sticking out of Spawn's face. He still has the wound in new Spawn times but doesn't recognize the guy that gave it to him. Question answered. I was right. Also, I remmebered correctly, the DC one (written by Chuck Dixon *blech!*) is seriously fucking awful. The best part about it is McFarlane's art on the Image book, but even that is fleeting.

All-Out Avengers #5: ah, I guess this leads into Avengers Beyond. I will definitely have to read that now. What a cool premise for a series.

Book of Shadows #3: I can't believe it took me three issues to realize the heroes converging on a singular powerful evil threat who is in love with Death was a pretty complete lift of a plot of Infinity Gauntlet. But here we are. I love a couple of these characters.

Bulls of Beacon Hill #1: intriguing LGBTQ crime thing. I'll read another.

Dead Seas #2: such a weird premise and well-done. I'm into it.

Inferno Girl Red #1: man, these massiveverse series are really hit or miss. This is a miss.

Junkyard Joe #4: fuck, this series is excellent.

Sabretooth & The Exiles #3: this was...fine.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #2: great issue.

The Human Target #11: great issue

Sandman Universe: The Dead Boy Detectives #1, 2: great start. I don't see this as following from the last Sandman Universe series (which is what the ending of that series looked like to me), but I like it nonetheless.

The Vineyard #3: this is good shit. But not a lot has happened in three issues. Very slowly paced. Small stakes.

Thor #30: decent.

Ziltoid the Omniscient #1: ok, this was goofy dumb fun. It won't change your life. I pre-ordered it because Ziltoid is the creation of Devin Townsend, musical genius and almost the producer of my band's record. I am very disheartened to not see his name mentioned in the pages of this comic book at all. Very weird. If I probably didn't have the next issue already pre-ordered I wouldn't bother.

Savage Dragon #263-6: Larsen finally moves the series to a city he's lived in!

Traveling to Mars #3: this is so good. Did not expect this from a somewhat crude comedy book. Profound.

Almighty #1: interesting future sci fi thing. I'll do another.

Ant #6: fun.

Batman: Legends of Gotham #1: this was pretty fun.

Black Tape #1: love this art. Dig the premise.

Blood Tree #1: ok, I'm intrigued. Lots of #1 horror issues in this little bunch. All are good.

Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #1: not the hugest fan of the art, but I really dug the story by the end. I'll do more.

Breath of Shadows #1: another new horror/rock and roll combo. This one is fucking wild. So far the best of the two (black Tape is the other one).

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8, 9: this has to be the best Cap series since Brubaker.

Children of the Black Sun #2: this is excellent.

Maniac of New York: Don't Call it a Comeback #1: ok, this is fucking wild.

Minor Threats #4: half meh half pretty good. Very off-balance final issue.

Moon Knight #20: Super serious story and then a fun backup story featuring Blade and the Moon Knight of the 70s.

Rogue Sun #10: great issue.

Radiant Black #21: great issue. This and the above is the strong corner of the Massiveverse foundation.

Silver Surfer: Ghost Light #1: I was gonna dump this until the last page. I'll give it one more.

Star Trek #4: this is crazy good.

John Stewart: The Emerald Knight #1: hmmm...haven't made up my mind on this. Maybe another one.

Venom #16: good.

Where Monsters Lie #1: holy fuck. Another great first horror issue.

Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death #1-4: this mini is a team-up with Lobster Johnson that is actually a fever dream. Fun, but inconsequential.

Torpedo volume three: I can't remember if I count these as trades or GNs...but I guess trade as it's a collected edition of shorter strips that eppared elsewhere first. More Bernet greatness.

The Ward: Welcome to the Madhouse: a trade for a mini about a hospital that serves supernatural patients. Very well done. Would love to read more.

Wendigo Book Two: Sundog: the finale. Probably waited a little too long to read the second one after the first.

Sentinels 3, 4: these are the last two GNs in the French comic series. It says to be continued in 5, but I don't think they ever got to do that one. WWI super-soldiers in a realistic and incredibly gritty tone. Good shit.

Batman & The Joker The Deadly Duo #4: this is good shit.

Gotham City: Year One #5: oh, I thought this was the end. One more to go.

Avengers: War Across Time #2: fun

Bishop: War College #1: pass.

Daredevil #8: excellent.

Ghost Rider #11: still good.

Gold Goblin #4: the best part of Dark Web continues even after Dark Web is done.

Harrower #1: another great first horror issue. I'm intrigued for more.

Joe Fixit #2: ok, this is just pure fun.

Koschei in Hell #2: this does NOT read like the second issue of four. Intrigued to see where the story goes. I don't remmeber the first series (Koschei the Deathless) being that interesting storywise.

Red Goblin #1: oh shit. Ok.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #5: this is so much better than it has any right to be. This is really well-written, and it looks great too.

DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock Vs. The Army of the Dead: a trade of Rock and Easy Company taking on nazi zombies written by Bruce Campbell. Ok, I'm in. The Eduardo Risso art makes it that much sweeter. Very much Ennis 90s vibes here.

Penthouse Comics #1: ok, this is a perfect package. Amazingly beautiful comics, a perfect bound magazine sized presentation. Good stuff. I'm along for the ride.

Fantastic Four: Full Circle: Even though this is incredibly beautiful (art by Alex Ross), I found myself never getting around to giving a shit about the story (written by Alex Ross).

Le Manoir: silent Josh Simmons gn

Dream of the Bat: a wild off the hook reimagining of Batman and Joker. Surprised legality hasn't come into it, frankly. Good stuff. Call this a trade as it's a collection of three GNs.

X-Men Legends #6: this was an excellent 2-part Bishop story from Whilce Portacio whose art I have missed. Great little story.

Monarch #1: an alien invasion in the hood story. I'm intrigued.

3Keys #5: this ended pretty well. I would check out a second volume probably.

Art Brut #3: this is wild and fun.

Door to Door, Night by Night #3: this wasn't as good as the last issue.

Eight Billion Genies #7: such a bold storytelling choice. One more to go.

Fantastic Four #4: wow...Loved the first three issues focusing on each characters (Reed and Sue were in the same one), but this issue kind of sucked now that the team is together. I'll try one more, but I'm soured on this pretty heavily.

Hulk #12: fine.

The Invincible Iron Man #3: great.

Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath #6: Goddamn...what a sharp looking book.

Masters of the Universe: Masterverse #1: hrrrmmmm....one side of me is screaming "this is stupid" and the other is like "give it another issue." I think I'll give it one more.

Chilling Adventures Presents Betty: The Final Girl #1: dogshit. Terrible.

Monica Rambeau: Photon #3: this is a radical shift in tone. weird.

Multiversity: Harley Screws up the DCU #1: ok, this is weird. I'll give it another.

Nemesis Reloaded #2: good issue. Nice reminder of the origin.

Swamp Thing: Green Hell #2: this is unfolding like a novel. Wonderful.

The Last Barbarians #1: ehhh...I'll give it another.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest #12: the story of OG Robin and Supergirl's first date. Really great. Particularly great in how the mentors walk their wards through the aftermath. Mark Waid writes a good motherfucking superhero comic.

Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #1: I'm of two minds. Not only has the Krakoa thing put me off modern X-Men comics, but it's also irreparably fucked with Otherworld. On the other hand, Betsy was always a low-key favourite X-Man to me. I prefer her in the purple and pink armor, personally, but she's a Marvel character who has been fucked with constantly and stilll has maintained some cool throughout. Seeing her as Captain Britain is kind of a childhood dream come true. Excalibur was always my thing. Psylocke was my favourite X-Man at the time Excalibur was being published. It makes sense. That all said, I'll be reading this on an issue-by-issue basis. I'll read another, but am not confident in the follow-through. It didn't light me on fire.

Black Adam #8: man, this is way better than it has any right to be. Brilliant shit.

Blue Book #1: Wow...James Tynion and Micheal Avon Oeming doing a serious "true story" (actually documented by the way) alien abduction comic. I know Blue Book. And I knew on page one exactly who the lead characters were. I'm excited to read more.

Carnage #10: crazy and fun. Still.

Dead Seas #3: still pretty good.

Legends of the Dark Knight annual #4: this from 1994 for my patron exclusive podcast and it's as slightly expected, the best of the bunch. Citizen Wayne takes on...Batman?

Doc Frankenstein: The Post-Modern Prometheus: fun fact, I have a novelette with that title (minus Doc Frankenstein). Way back when the Wachowski's were brothers, they started Burlyman entertainment. The only things that happened with it that I recall were Matrix comics, Geof Darrow's Shaolin Cowboy (which has continued on with Dark Horse), and the unfinished Doc Frankenstein. The team came back to finish the series (about 60 plus pages) in the oversized hardcover. Good shit.

X-Factor Epic Collection vol 3 Angel of Death: this one begins with Angel being dead from apparent suicide being unable to live without his wings (removed from him in the Mutant Massacre) and Beast being in his most human form but getting dumber each time he uses his strength thanks to chemicals and a touch from Apocalypse's Horseman, Pestilence. Angel reappears as Death (no one called him Archangel in his first twenty or so appearances). Love to see the Simonsons working together. But I think the better volume would be the EC that comes after this one. I remember Warren's struggle to adjust being very good.

Deadpool #4: this was the weakest of the four issues.

GCPD The Blue Wall #5: fucking excellent.

Batman: One Bad Day: Clayface #1: excellent. Loved this so much.

Hellboy in Love #3: this was good.

Junkyard Joe #5: god, this series fucking rules.

Local Man #1: a premise right up my alley: a disgraced superhero who was a member of a Youngblood-type team at the birth of the 90s Image movement goes back to his hometown to adjust. Good stuff so far.

Lovesick #5: completely insane, but beautifully written. If the content wasn't so filthy, it would make an incredible 6 part miniseries

Plush #4: this series is fucking nuts.

Punisher War Journal: Base #1: I don't see Frank Castle going to couples therapy. I just don't. That said, otherwise this is still good.

Sabretooth & The Exiles #4: I guess this and maybe Deadpool are the only X-Men things I'm digging.

Something is Killing the Children #29: oh we talking moves

Spawn: Unwanted Violence #2: i believe this is it as far as this series is concerned. The first issue was ok with great art. This issue was fucking awesome with great art. Maybe i was in a  mood when i read issue one?

Specs #4: interesting but also cliched in a  couple ways ending.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #3: not a fan of the art. Digging the story though.

Stargirl: The Lost Children #4: this was kind of a buffer issue, the get all the ducks in the row before splashing out in the last two. As such, it was pretty boring. Not invested in the characters enough to really care too much about the dialogue. This one is kind of fizzling out for me.

The Human Target #12: fucking great series. Holy shit.

Unless I read a couple later that's my tally up to and including March. Set to smash a record.

Superman: Lost #2: not as good (anywhere close, in fact) to the first issue. But I'll give it one more.

  • Issues: 535
  • Trades: 10
  • Omnibus: 2
  • Graphic Novel: 10

  • 5 weeks later...

Superman #1: this is the Dawn of DC beginning. Lexcorp has been left to Superman and renamed Supercorp while Lexs is in jail. Interesting start. I'll do more.

Breath of Shadows #2: this wasn't as good as the first issue, but I'll give it one more.

The Ones #4: this was a lot of fun.

The Sandman Universe: Dead Boy Detectives #3: this series is nowhere near as good as the last one. TSU, I mean. I'm not sure I ever read the old DBD series.

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #10: still good.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #1: ok, I'll try another. Haven't liked CGR in the past.

The Vineyard #4: great ending.

Thor #31: good start to this arc. A little confusing.

Titans United: Bloodpact #6: they really brought it together at the end.

Ghost Rider #12: I think I knew where this was heading several issues ago. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Koschei in Hell #3: good shit.

Torrent #1: not really interested.

I Am Iron Man #1: hmmm...after the last volume, it would take something great to live up to it. Not sure I want to read a woman coming back in time to mess with Stark. Maybe I'll give it one more.

Phantom Road #1: extremely little happens but its a good pre-credits sequence.

Trojan #2: whoa. haha...cool.

I Hate This Place #6: this series kicks ass,

Wasp #2: I would enjoy both wasps on an adventure, but not an adventure against a bunch of robot wasps. Also not the hugest fan of the art. I'm out.

Radiant Black #22: great issue.

L.E.G.I.O.N. annual #5: this is another one for my exclusive podcast. What a read! The podcast episode is more than twice as long as the usual episode.

Red Zone #1: now THAT's a fucking first issue.

Rogue & Gambit #1: and that is not. I'm out.

Spider-Man Unforgiven #1: kind of fun.

Venom #17: still great

Where Monsters Lie #2: excellent.

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #5: this art is ridiculously good. Good story beats here too. I just came to check out Silvestri's Batman, but really enjoy this.

Traveling to Mars #4: somber. Good stuff.

X-23 Deadly Regenisis #1: nah...I'm good.

Justice Society of America #3: this is awesome

Superman Lost #1: holy fuck, this rules. Great writing, incredible art. I am in for the long haul.

Multiversity: Harley something something #2: this took only a few pages to bore the shit out of me. I'm out.

The Lonesome Hunters #3, 4: fucking incredible series. So pure and beautiful. Simple, elegant, scary, wondrous. Everything.

Trojan #3: loving this too

A.R.C. #1: a oneshot about a network of vigilantes stopping poachers. Cool story.

Almighty #2: yeah, this one lost me too.

Blood Tree #2: ok, this one has the cinematic hallmark of far too elaborate killings from a serial killer, but I'm intrigued.

Black Tape #2: two issues in a row, I try to quit it, but each time, there's a fucking fantastic cliffhanger.

Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #2: good issue. I'll do more.

Fantastic Four #5: ok, they're righting the ship.

Moon Knight #21: great issue

Children of the Black Sun #3: excellent issue

New Mutants: Lethal Legion #1: ok, I gave this a shot and then was gonna drop it even though I kind of like the team roster, but then Count Nefaria is revealed as the villain and I'm in for the long haul. My favourite obscure Marvel character.

Predator #1: Was the last miniseries called the same thing? I think it was. This was good, regardless.

Rogue Sun #11: ok issue

Space Job #2: not sure if I can take this joke any further.

Stoneheart #1: No thanks. It reads like someone's D&D game. Out.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #6: this series is just fucking nuts and I love it.

Silver Surfer: Ghost Light #2: this issue nailed it.

Hulk #13: this one had me bored.

Red Goblin #2: this is fun. I've missed so much Spider-Continuity in the past twenty years that I have to look a few things up occasionally, but being back into the Spider-books (at least nominally) has been pretty fun.

Secret Invasion #5: fun.

Art Brut #4: this was an excellent mini.

Monarch #2: ok, swerve!

Nemesis Reloaded #3: glorious violence and action with little connection to character. Not sure if I read the other two or just quit.

The Forged #1: I'll pass.

No/One #1: also pass.

The Last barbarians #2: I was along for the ride until the D&D talk. A character goes into a store and the guy is like "this armor has a +3 against boradswords!" Fuck all the way off.

Masters of the Universe: Masterverse #2: yeah, I'm out.

The Harrower #2: fun. this issue was basically five minutes of a horror movie, and I'm down with it.

Star Trek #5: still awesome. Looking forward to Worf's spinoff.

Book of Death: The Fall of the Valiant Universe: this trade collects one of those crossovers where each title has its own story, this case, being the end of each characters' life. This was solid.

Avengers: War Across Time #3: this is so good. Beyond the art by Alan Davis, I mean.

Star Trek: Defiant #1: one issue in and this spinoff could already be better than the other ST book. Captain Worf versus Kahless on the Defiant with spoiler: B'lanna Torres, Ambassador Spock, Ensign Ro...and...I can't even say that one.

Hellcat #1: this was pretty good.

Icon vs Hardware #1: just not a fan of any of this new Milestone stuff. Still love the OG run though.

Gold Goblin #5: excellent.

BLack Adam #9: not a huge fan of this issue. But the series has been good overall.

Batman/Superman World's Finest #13: this is fun.

Batman: one Bad Day: Ra's Al Ghul #1: this was fucking excellent.

GCPD The Blue Wall #6: a pretty stellar follow-up to Gotham Central.

Stargirl: The Lost Children #5: meh

Swamp Thing Green Hell #3: I was here for the art, but the story ended up winning me over too.

Carnage #11: crazy

Doctor Strange #1: the doctor is alive again and tidying up the messes left behind. I'm down. Even though next issue features one of my least favorite Marvel villains: Nightmare.

Joe Fixit #3: this series is great.

Dead Romans #1: Not for me

Plush #5: still crazy.

Legion of Super-Heroes Annual #5: for my patreon-exclusive podcast.

The Neighbors #1: I really enjoyed this.

Blue Book #2: this is soooooo good. Love Oeming's work and that the script gives him lots of room to play. Great comics!

Lord of the Jungle #4: fun.

X-O Manowar: Unconquered #1: ok, I'm down.

The Complete Torpedo vol 4: I think I'm counting these as trade paperbacks if I remember correctly. The stories have definitely started to grate on me. I'll wait a bit before reading volume 5, the final one. I've got things to say about it, I just want to be able to read all of it first.

Bulls of Beacon Hill #2, 3: oh, I am sold on this. This is cool.

Gotham City: Year One #6: not only career highs for both Phil Hester AND Tom King, it's one of the finest series published by DC in the last quarter century. Masterful writing. Hall of fame art.

The Sandman Universe: Dead Boy Detectives #4: i think I know what this is. The last series felt like Vertigo. This doesn't. This feels like a Hellboy/BPRD universe story. I've sensed something wrong from the start. That was it.

Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1: ok, I'm into this.

Avengers Beyond #1: ugh...this is the All Out Avengers follow-up that I am infinitely less interested in than I was that series even though it's the same story. The beyonder is one of my least favourite Marvel characters. Of all the godlike cosmic entities on Marvel's history he is the nmost superfluous.

Waller vs. Wildstorm #1: holy fuck. What a fun exercise. Tell a black ops spook story in the DCU combining the Wildstorm universe as well. It ain't canon, but it's fun to see Deathstroke as a member of Team 7.

Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #2: awful. What a disappointment.

Clobberin' Time #1: this was fucking fun. More Steve Skroce on weird shit and more of the rogue Watcher.

Daredevil #9: this series just keeps getting better.

Deadpool #4: eh...I'm not the biggest fan.

Invincible Iron Man #4: man, I will keep reading the main Iron man book as long as they keep telling great stories like this. interestingly enough, the art looks like it was done by an alternate Rob Liefeld with a better handle on anatomy. Intriguing.

Sabretooth & The Exiles #5: eh, it's fine. Too much multiverse shit lately.

Thor #32: this was a lot of fun.

X-men Unforgiven #1: this is actually kind of fun.

Indigo Children #1: alright, I gave this a shot but IC is literally the one "out there" conspiracy theory that I really hate. I've seen and taught kids whose parents told them that they were Indigo Children and the kids take it to heart and it ruins their fucking lives. So fucking rage-inducing. But this was pretty good. haha!

Local Man #2: dam, this is really good.

Lovesick #6: holy shit. I thought this was the last one. One more.

The Ambassadors #1: ok, this is an interesting take. I'll do more.

Lovecraft: Unknown Kadath #7: still fucking great. Only one more to go.

Something is Killing the Children #30: still good.

Hellboy in Love #4: this was decent.

Lady Baltimore: The Dream of Ikelos: this was quite good. I really enjoy the Lady Baltimore stuff. I should go back and give Baltimore a shot.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Illyrian Enigma #4: ok, this issue answered why the story was inconsequential. It reveals a huge secret about a common alien species in modern trek that seems consequential, but in the end it doesn't matter. I suppose it's smart writing to tell the story inbetween episodes that this miniseries was, but it is a bridge too far for me.

Dead Seas #4: still good.

Book of Shadows #4: pretty good ending.

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #6: one more to go! I don't tend to like Batman stories involving zombies/super soldiers etc. but this has been fun regardless.

Heart Eyes #5: this is such a surprising miniseries. Up until the end. Amazing.

The Joker: The man Who Stopped Laughing #7: fun as hell.

Avengers: War Across Time #4: honestly, wouldn't be reading this if it wasn't drawn by Alan Davis. Thankfully, it is.

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #11: excellent series.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #2: ok, part of this is fun, but I don't understand. Is this in the future? If so, why's Valkyrie there?

Ghost Rider #13: awesome fun.

I am Iron Man #2: ok, this is a weird series. Something about him becoming Iron Shogun next issue, so I'm good to pass on the rest.

Joe Fixit #4: fun as hell. Love the obscure villains. Love the Joe Fixit era. LOVE the trick Spider-Man plays in this issue. Fantastic.

Planet of the Apes #1: this is the modern Marvel series. It's a solid first issue that takes place during the Simian flu (essentially during the first film).

Venom #18; man...they have really pushed this character so far beyond one would ever think they could back when he was created. Even without Bryan Hitch's art. CAFU is great.

Blood Tree #3: yeah, still good.

I Hate This Place #7:still great

Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow #1: ugh. Not for me at all.

Junk Rabbit #1: off...same

World of Krypton #1-3 (1979)
The World of Krypton #1-4 (1987)
World of Krypton #1-6 (2022)

Three vastly different takes on Krypton's final years, each one equally valid and with its own merits. The 1987 miniseries gets mired in some Byrne bullshit, but it's, at least, a fresh take on the planet.

Superman: World of New Krypton #1-12: Great art by Pete Woods, but the writing was missing something. Never really felt connected to anyone, not ever Superman.

The World of Smallville #1-4
The World of Metropolis #1-4

Part of the Byrne "World of" trilogy after the Crisis reboot. Smallville is the most interesting because of Martha's backstory, but it loses a ton of steam with the lame Manhunter crap that was shoehorned in.

The Kents #1-3: Really wanted to get into this, but I just can't.

Ghost Rider #1-12 (1990): Genuinely shocked by how good this is. In time, I will be coming back.

Marvel Comics Presents #64-71: Skipable.

Batman #142-144 (2016): Joker: Year One is way too mired in whatever the hell is going on in the Batman books. Did not care one bit.

Catwoman: Selina's Big Score: Excellent crime drama, but speeds to the end.

Catwoman #1-37 (2002) and Catwoman Secret Files and Origins: Starts out exceptionally strong, but Brubaker either takes a massive step back, loses interest, or editorial gets involved, because there are some massive dips in the back portion. That said, the art is mostly top-tier, and there's a nine-issue stretch where Selina FUCKS UP hard and it costs a lot. She then tries to rebuild but it's not easy.

Dragonball: Volume 1 - The Monkey King
Dragonball: Volume 2 - Wish Upon a Dragon
Dragonball: Volume 3 - The Training of Kame-Sen'nin
Dragonball: Volume 4 - Strongest Under the Heavens
Dragonball: Volume 5 - The Red Ribbon Army
Dragonball: Volume 6 - Bulma Returns
Dragonball: Volume 7 - General Blue and the Pirate Treasure
Dragonball: Volume 8 - Taopaipai & Master Karin
Dragonball: Volume 9 - Test of The All-Seeing Crone

Some of the very best comics I have ever read.

Since I've been enjoying so much modern GR, I've recently thought about rereading this too. All that stuff with Blackout and Deathwish and then Madcap and Suicide and Texiera art...man, and that's all before the Midnight Sons stuff.

May as well start my May post:

Hairball #1: this was fun. I didn't expect this angle.

The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country: The Glass House #1: THIS is the follow-up to that first series. That makes more sense as it picks right up where that one left off. The Corinthian is back and there's a new victim of the monster. Right away, this feels like Vertigo and has absolutely pulled me in.

Koshchei In Hell #4: beautiful ending.

Where Monsters Lie #3: about fifteen minutes has passed in these first three issues. It's crazy.

Breath of Shadows #3: ok, they better shit or get off the pot next issue.

Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #3: this plot moves at a snail's pace.

Captain America: Cold War Alpha: oh...that Cap series wasn't ending, just crossing over with the SamCap one. I gave that up, so we'll see how much sense half this crossover makes.

Carnage #12: ok, this keeps creeping on.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Dogs of War #1: ok, I'm down for more solid DS9 era comics. This was fun.

Fantastic Four #6: did not enjoy the art here, and quite frankly, they've wasted a lot of time in these first six issues. I think I'll probably drop it.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1: not the best first issue. It gets one more.

Moon Knight #22: packed a lot of story into 20-odd pages. Great single issue story.

Predator #2: still great

Silver Surfer: Ghost Light #3: i just love the art. I don't really care about the story here.

Children of the Black Sun #4: good issue

Eight billion Genies #8: I was prepared to be let down, so this wasn't too bad.

Monarch #3: talk about snail's pace. I'm out.

Traveling to Mars #5: still great

Nemesis Reloaded #4: this was the best issue of the bunch

Maniac of New York: Don't Call it a Comeback #2: still excellent

Red Zone #2: a hell of a lot of fun.

Phantom Road #2: i thought issue one was intriguing, but this issue fucking ruled. Good shit.

The Seasons Have Teeth #1: ok...the embodiment of seasons are kaiju. I'm down.

Radiant Black #23: cool.

The Ambassadors #2: this was a great issue.

The Giant Kokju #1: a raunchy comedy kaiju comic. I might give it one more. I found it kind of meh.

Star Trek: Defiant #2: man...I could read Worf and Spock arguing forever. example Spock says "is it not logical that if this Kahless is a perfect clone of the real Kahless, then perhaps the original Kahless is also not as noble as once thought." Worf replies: "Before we pull at the threads of my entire civilization, perhaps we should..." Brilliant stuff. So fun.

Star Trek #6: without Worf, this series continues to rule. Man, good fucking Trek comics.

Exorcists Never Die #1: I think I'll pass on this one.

Batman/Superman World's Finest #14: this was excellent. Lots of fun moments here.

Black Adam #10: ok, setting up the two issue finale. Good stuff.

Superman #2, 3: oh damn, this series is actually pretty great. I'm enjoying the art, but it's more of a Marvel vibe. So is the comic, in a way. It feels like Iron Man at times now that Superman is the head of Supercorp. Intrigued. I basically love whatever Josh Williamson writes at DC. More please.

Captain America: Unforgiven #1: great ending to this weird little series. Basically a Youngblood style team of vampires in the MCU.

Hellcat #2: excellent.

New Mutants: Lethal Legion #2: that does it! I'm in! Count Nefaria, art that looks like sloppy Erik Larsen, and heroes going undercover as villains. Right up my alley. The one thing from the Krakoa era I enjoy.

Red Goblin #3: this was really good.

Warlock Rebirth #1: hmmm...Rons Marz and Lim tell this Infinity Watch story. Honestly, not very good. I'll give it one more.

Rogue Sun #12: great issue.

The Cult of that Wilkin Boy #1: apparently Bingo Wilkin is an Archie character. This is his dumb horror oneshot. Pass.

Black Tape #3: great issue.

Harrower #3: well, fuck...there goes one of my WIPs. Haha! It's prose, but it's ridiculously similar to this.

All Eight Eyes #1: I really enjoyed this.

Dead Seas #5: great

X-O Manowar Unconquered #2: this is meh...with Liam Sharp's art, it looks like it has the same art (and story) of those Radical Press comics from about 15 years ago.

Green Arrow #1: ok, I'm intrigued.

Unstoppable Doom Patrol #2: this is really good. Cool take.

Clobberin' Time #2: this is still awesome. More Steve Skroce miniseries, Marvel!

Daredevil #10: this series is so fucking good.

Doctor Strange #2: was concerned about it being a Nightmare story, but it barely is at all. Still loving it.

Hulk #14: this could have been an amazing series at 8 issues. Maybe even 10. But 14 was too much. Looking forward ot the next volume. This one was a bit of a dud.

Invincible Iron Man #5: great.

Thor #33: pretty good.

Deep Cuts #1: interesting story set in New Orleans in 1917 about a black kid who plays jazz clarinet at a brothel. It's super intriguing with art that is reminiscent of Sin City at times.

Indigo Children #2: I feel like it went pretty generic here. I might do one more.

Local Man #3: this series is great

Lovesick #7: the sick, fucked up ending. Fantastic series. Not for those with weak constitutions.

Plush #6: incredible ending.

The Ambassadors #3: Travis Charest drew this, and it's gorgeous. It's so rare to see his work these days, that I literally don't care at all about anything else other than how pretty this book was.

w0rldtr33 #1: crazy-ass first issue. I'm down for more.

Lovecraft Unknown Kadath #8: great ending.

The Mighty Barbarians #1: I'm a little confused, but I guess this is no different than Avengers 1,000,000BC or whatever. An international group of barbarians (Celtic, Inuit, African, and also Robert E Howard's Kull). I'll check out more.

Bulls of Beacon Hill #4: excellent. This series wastes ZERO time.

Trojan #4: good ending. this series could have used a couple more issues, even.

The Neighbors #2: supremely creepy. I am down for more.

Blue Book #3: still a beautiful book.

Black Cat Social Club: a graphic novel that was a little too goofy for my tastes.

Star Trek #7: holy shit. This series is fucking wild. The bridge crew consists of EVERY main Trek crew from EVERY show except those that take place in the far past (SNW) or far future (Discovery), even Lower Decks. This series is so fucking fun and wild, that it's insane to think that ST: Defiant is even wilder. This has to be the best era of Trek comics. To outline how insane Defiant is, they have a crew member from SNW, technically.

Vanish #1-7: this takes an idea that my friend and I were going to pitch to a publisher before it tanked and adds superheroes. They do it pretty damned well. Which is to be expected from Donny Cates.

Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo #7: a pretty great miniseries. I only picked it up because Silvestri is amazing and I'd never seen his Batman before. All said and done, I thought his Joker was a little spindly, but I didn't expect the story to make me tear up a little.

Peacemaker Tries Hard #1: this is fucking funny.

The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #8: this series is crazy.

Avengers War Across Time #5: this ended with a bit of a dry fart.

Carnage Reigns Alpha: kicking off the new symbiote event. Of which last year had a whole summer of them.

Cult of Carnage: Misery #1: Marvel's quest to make EVERY supporting Spider-Man character into a symbiote hits its apex next  month as I debut my brand new series: Cult of Carnage: Mayday #1. Parker won't want any of THESE wheatcakes!

Groot #1: pass.

Joe Fixit #5: I really enjoyed this miniseries overall. I thought it was fun as fuck. This issue too. But also in this issue, Whiplash uses his lash to pick up Joe Fixit (reminder: he's the fucking grey hulk) and lifts him off the ground upside down with it. I don't see how that's possible. Maybe Constrictor could do it, but Whiplash? C'mon!

Moon Knight #23: team-up with kid Venom. Some obscure villains. Fun.

Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis #1: nahhh

Blood Tree #4 still excellent.

I Hate This Place #8: ok, well this is fucking nuts.

Radiant Black #24: ok, gets crazier and crazier. I dig it.

Hairball #2: this is wildly good.

Survival #1: ok, militia preppers vs Russian vampires? Is that what this is? I'm down.

Where Monsters Lie #4: holy shit. Crazy. Is this the end of the first volume?

Breath of Shadows #4: hmmm...I don't think I'll finish this. It just never really nails it.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Dogs of War #2: awesome.

Lamentation #1: interesting very classic horror idea. I'll see where it goes.

Monomyth #1: pass.

SHAZAM! #1: Dawn of DC begins. This is the Waid run. It starts off pretty good.

Green Lantern #1: great first issue. I enjoyed both this and the backup. Looking forward to more.

A Very British Affair: a good sized TPB collection of British Romance comics from the 50s-70s. The stories aren't fantastic mostly because they are almost all 3 pages long. The art, however, fuck me. It's really good. And other than Estaban Maroto and Jose Gonzalez, they are unknown names and mostly women. Amazing stylistic mod-styled art. Some of the characters look like fashion model drawings. Fantastic.

Legionnaires Annual #1: for the patron exclusive podcast

Megaton Archives Volume One: you kind of have to be an image nerd to appreciate this. And I don't think this was ever covered in that Image Revolution doc, but Gary Carlson was an indie comics publisher in the 80s, and Megaton featured very early Butch Guice and Erik Larsen, and professional debuts from Rob Liefeld, Angel Medina and a few others. even though this is only 8 issues, they're all large page counts and there's a ton of BTS stuff from Gary's archives. So good. Erik Larsen does the Vanguard strip and brings Dragon (Paul Dragon at the time) in to fight him. Liefeld's work is funny. His grass if anatomy is far better than anything you'll see later in his career. This included a few full page ads of Youngblood. Later publications (which could be collected in vol 2 if it sells enough (which I probably doubt) could include an early Youngblood story etc.)

Penthouse Comics #2: this is stellar. Big feels of late 80s/early 90s euro comics. Artists like Tula Lotay and Guillem March doing their best Milo Manara impressions is pretty fucking great comics. Also, I guess because of the slightly filthy cover, it was delivered in a bag with a card blocking it. Amazing. The magazine format is imperative. It has the size of those euro books. The pages are a little delicate (bending easily based on pressure) so that's kind of a pain in the ass, but looking forward to next issue.Best comic of the year so far.

Shaolin Cowboy: Cruel to be Kin: this is just fucking insane. One continuous bizarre odyssey across the land every violent step of the way. Darrow's work is so insanely detailed, you can lose yourself in every page.

Spirit World #1: seems odd to take a Jack Kirby title and make it manga-influenced...

Superman: Lost #3: is this series just gonna be relentlessly sad? I hope not.

Stargirl: The Lost Children #6: ugh...speaking of sad. Fucking downbeat ending? After the story about children being kidnapped and kept a young ge for like 75 years?

The Sandman Universe Nightmare Country Glass House #2: this was great.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #3: this is fucking confusing.

Daredevil #11: amazing. So good.

Extreme Venomverse #1: I don't need this. I'm happy with all the other Venom material.

Ghost Rider #14: tease of a cover. But looking forward to the finale.

Invincible Iron Man #6: a Silver Centurion flashback!

Junkyard Joe #6: great ending.

Nemesis Reloaded #5: oh SHIT! Did not expect that ending. Crazy.

Something Epic #1: this was cool. I'm down for more.

The Ambassadors #4: great issue!

King Kong: The Great War #1: cool.

Planet of the Apes #2: the creep of the Simian Flu continues and we see how the Orangutans of Borneo and the people there live in unity. Cool story.

Lord of the Jungle #5: Proabbly an issue longer than it had to be, but a decent ending nonetheless.

Star Trek: Defiant #3: so good.

Predator #3: also good.

Venom #19: quick read

Red Goblin #4: solid.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest #15: ok, the murderer is this new Ultra-Morpho...snooze.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold #1: a bat-anthology book, I think? I enjoyed the Stormwatch story.

Cyborg #1: hmmm...even with Tom Raney art, it took a wild last panel to even get me to bother to read #2.

Superman #4: this is great. It's kind of lame the fake backstory for Luthor and his villains, but rewriting history is what comics are all about these days, so it doesn't bother me so much.

The Vigil #1: this was kind of awesome.

Titans #1: ok, kind of a shaky start.

Black Adam #11: one more to go

Avengers #1: not my selection of team members, but this was good.

Bloodline: Daughter of Blade #4: solid

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #12: ermm...I might drop this.

Danny Ketch: Ghost Rider #1: ok, I'm down for more.

Fantastic Four #7: this is where I take my leave. This series sucks.

Guardians ofthe Galaxy #2: I'm out of this one too. Awful.

Hulk Annual #1: decent little take on found footage which would be a really interesting way of going about a Hulk movie now that I think about it...

The Mighty Barbarians #2: and this is where I quit this one.

Red Zone #3: still really good.

The Seasons Have Teeth #2: this is cool and weird and kind of exhilarating.

Miss Truesdale and the Fall of Hyperborea #1: this is right up my alley.

Dark Spaces: Good Deeds #1: excellent first issue.

Star Trek: The Motion picture Echoes #1: also pretty damned fun.

Star Trek #8: so fucking good. One complaint, Data should be colored whiter than regular humans. That's it.

City Boy #1: I mean...they have Jack Hawksmoor right there! Anyway, this was kind of fun regardless, so I'll check out another.

Green Arrow #2: this was...fine. I think I'm done.

Justice Society of America #4: great!

Unstoppable Doom Patrol #3: fun.

Daredevil & Echo #1: this is very much a Batman story. It's almost Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City. And Echo has characterization unlike any I've seen her have before. That includes comics and TV.

Fury #1: pretty good.

Hellcat #3: excellent

New Mutants Lethal Legion #3: still really fun

Storm #1: meh...hard pass.

Thor #34: this is a step down from prior stuff. There's too much bullshit to deal with if you read Thor now. Bor and Odin are dead and talk to Thor? Ok...he has two goats, ok. A daughter? Future three daughters? Too much.

Warlock Rebirth #2: sorry Ron Marz, but without Starlin, he ain't a character worth reading.

Indigo Children #3: fucking crazy.

Supermassive: a huge oneshot crossover, but it's too manga-ish for me to get into.

The Ambassadors #5: really fun.

Bulls of Beacon Hill #5: this either needed another issue or a promise of a volume two. As it stands, it's kind of a dry fart.

Black Tape #4: ok ending.

Harrower #4: this was great.

The Neighbors #3: great

All Eight Eyes #2: also great.

Blue Book #4: so much of this is just the non-fiction books I read as a twelve year old. Haha! So crazy. But really well-done and non-sensational.

Dead Seas #6: good ending, but this series should have been five issues.

Amazing Spider-Man #26: holy shit. this was crazy.

Power Girl Special #1: I don't really understand this version of the character (or a lot of the new Superman family) but I love the new character design and the art and...Johnny Sorrow is an incredibly underused DC villain, so I enjoyed it

Carnage #13: pretty weak issue.

Clobberin' Time #3: still really fun.

Doctor Strange #3: still great

Silver Surfer Ghost Light #4: love the art here so much.

Deep Cuts #2: ok, I think I might be done with this one.

Local Man #4: excellent

w0rldtr33 #2: so fucking good.

Star Trek Annual 2023: this was fun

Traveling to Mars #6: still great

The Rocketeer: a simple three-story oneshot from last year. Pretty good.

Cat Fight #1: not for me at all.

Spirits of Vengeance: Rise of the Midnight Sons: this trade collects the six-part ROTMS crossover that introduced four new series to Marvel's Horror lineup and continues with SOV and the crossover with Web of Spider-Man. Those issues aren't as good as I would have liked. But the Midnight Sons stuff is awesome. It's fourteen issues long, so I'll count it as an omnibus. Only furthers my desire to reread early GR issues. The SoV series starts with a promise to tie up some loose ends from the first two years of Ghost Rider, but it doesn't end up doing that at all the moment they swing into a crossover with Spider-Man and Venom and Demogoblin and the other evil spider-man guy from Infinite War. Booooring.

ESPers: this book (from 1990) has been on my reread list for a long time and I finally got to it. I have a failed comic book WIP that tanked for a bummer reason, but now that I reread this, I realize I was totally lifting the plot. Yikes. This thing (which I definitely read when it first came out because I read basically everything from Epic Comics) somehow wormed its way into my brain and then fifteen years later I started making a comic book remake of it unknowingly. Haha! Anyway, this one starts well, and definitely tapers off. Could have been one issue fewer. Good stuff overall from david Lloyd and James Hudnall.

Batman: Jekyll & Hyde #1-6: this miniseries from 2005 is written by Paul Jenkins and drawn by Jae Lee (later followed up by Sean Phillips doing an incredible Jae Lee impression). It's been on my list to read forever. It's strange. It posits that the evil side of Two-Face (obviously it's a Two-Face story) is a manifestation of Harvey Dent's older brother which I think this is the only time this is ever brought up in continuity.

Dr. Strange Epic Collection v. 4: Alone Against Eternity: I love Dr. Strange but I am very partial to his stories. Modern Strange, I tend to need an anchor to the real-world and they've done that well lately with W.A.N.D. and stuff. I love cosmic 70s Strange and this has one of the finest examples of a man against the cosmos that I have ever read. Strange in conversation/battle with Eternity for the fate of Earth is just absolutely intellectually and poetically superb. Then you add in the Gene Colan artwork and it's chef's kiss. Man, it is not hard to remember that Englehart and Starlin (who takes over for him in the EC) were walking the streets of New York ripped on LSD with Don McGregor while they were writing this stuff. Also, in a 70s book if the second tier of artists is Rudy Nebres and Tom Sutton, you're doing ok.

Dr. Strange epic collection v. 9: The Vampiric Verses: the 90s follow-up to the last EC I read. Lots of Butch Guice art which is great. I may have forgotten more of the Strange era than I remember. Rintrah, Topaz, Baron Blood is Dr. Strange's brother...it's wild.

Peacemaker Tries Hard #2: fuck, this is so fun.

SHAZAM! #2: fun.

Steelworks #1: meh...I'm not captivated.

The Joker: The man Who Stopped Laughing #9: this series is so good.

The Joker Uncovered #1: I've seen this kind of release before. "Hey, we've got all these extra covers we commissioned, so we should probably publish them at some point."

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty #13: great! one more in this storyline to go.

Daredevil #12: holy shit. ok.

Deadpool Badder Blood #1: ugh...it is entirely possible (believe it or not) that Liefeld has gotten worse at art with age. The credits read story and art by Liefeld, script by Chad Bowers. Kudos to Bowers for attempting to script these dogshit pages into a semicoherent story. I mean, he wasn't successful, but if I guy tries to protect his country from a descending nuclear bomb by throwing a rock doesn't make it any less endearing.

Invincible Iron Man #7: I'm not really sure where this idea to tie IM into X-Men came from. He's the last character in the Marvel Universe who makes sense for that kind of connection.

Loki #1: surprisingly enjoyed this a bit.

Red Goblin #5: really fun.

Blood Tree #5: this is really excellent and over the top.

Phantom Road #3, 4: this is coming along nicely.

Venom #20: still great.

Sins of the Salton Sea #1: when I see Ed Brisson writing a crime comic, I am in. Even if it doesn't take place in Vancouver. In fact, this one takes place in the Salton Sea, a setting I have been fascinated with for years. This was an incredible first issue.

LOT 13: this is a five issue trade from DC Comics (circa early 2000s?) that I somehow missed completely. It's a fun little locked box horror story written by Steve Niles and drawn by Glenn Fabry. Good stuff.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Dog of War #3: lots of fun.

Star Trek Defiant #4: still great.

Green Lantern #2: very fun

Superman Lost #4: this was...ok

The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country: The Glass House #3: still great

Waller vs. Wildstorm #2: fucking great

Cosmic Ghost Rider #4: I have read a good chunk of three entire miniseries about this character (also a member of GOTG for a short time while I was reading) and I swear to you, gun to my head, I could not explain the character more than "it's Old Frank Castle with a flaming skull head riding Lobo's spacebike. How do they keep making these?

Doctor Strange #4: good fun. This was all Wong and agents of WAND which is fun as fuck.

Clobberin' Time #4: still so damned fun.

Carnage #14: was biding my time reading this issue until it ended, to be honest.

Captain Ameria Cold War Omega #1: crazy end.

Black Panther #1: no thanks. I appreciate the different angle, but it still didn't grab me.

Amazing Spider-Man #27: man, I really miss Romita on this. Never been the biggest McGuinness fan.

Something Epic #2: ok, I'll read more.

Planet of the Apes #3: this is so damned good.

Moon Knight #24: kind of a ho hum issue.

Miss Truesdale  and the Fall of Hyperborea #2: this one, mostly silent, was a very quick read. But I understand why it was needed.

I Hate This Place #9: holy shit. Did not expect this.

Haunt You To The End #1: ok, I'm intrigued. Love that Andrea Mutti art.

In case you don't know, they published an Epic Collection called Ghost Rider: Danny Ketch back in October. That's what I was reading from. Stunning work all around.

I'll see if I can grab that for a a lower price than cover. Ideally, much lower. Haha!

I actually think I have most of that run still somewhere in my longboxes. Or maybe I sold it. I can't remember.
