This was really difficult to decide. This whole season is so outstanding it's really hard to pick a favorite. Really the only stories here I don't like much are The Unquiet Dead (not sure why) & AOL/WW3 (if only for the fart jokes)

I have been wishing practically my whole life that I could travel with Peter Davison & any combination of his companions possible, but particularly poor dear old maligned Adric. It is not his fault the writers didn't know how to write for him & that the directors didn't really give him much direction.

This is a tough question. I usually start the Not-We with Ark in Space (since it's the 1st one I watched as a small child), but here are my recommendations, by Doctor: Hartnell: An Unearthly Child (Pilot & aired 1st ep, if both are available). I would stay away from pure historicals such as The Aztecs unless the viewer is prepared for there not to be any aliens in DW (heresy, these days) Troughton: The Mind Robber. This story is so damn surreal I could scream. Pertwee: Inferno. This is honestly the only 7 part story that never feels padded to me. Davison: Earthshock. The Cybermen are at their absolute best here. C. Baker: Revelation of the Daleks. It's really a shame it took the production team until the end of Colin's first season to figure out how to write 2 45-min episodes (although the cliffhanger for this one is one of the worst). McCoy: Curse of Fenric. This era is particularly dire & it really takes me a lot of effort to come up with one story that won't have a newbie shaking his/her head & saying "Why did they ever bring this show back??"

I think I am going thru withdrawals after only 2 episodes! This 'cast is great & really brings back memories! Thanks so much for this & I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment!!

I'll second that. Robots of Death also feature what I think is the best companion that never was. Which one? It's packed full of interesting characters...but if you mean D-84, I agree...far better than k9 Toos gets my vote. Or maybe Zilda (if only for the outfit).

I used to dislike Carnival of Monsters quite a lot, I found it repetitive & dull. Then I discovered that this was because of an editing mistake with the VHS release of the story which resulted in several scenes from one episode being re-used in another. Now I think it's kinda harmless fun, but still not my fave of the Pertwee Era (of which there are several). Frontier in Space actually is very repetitive, I mean, how many different ways can two people be imprisoned in 6 25 minute episodes?? Vera Fusek (the President) was the real unsung hero of this story, IMO. Her performance outshines the rest of the (frankly lackluster) guest cast!

I don't think this is so wacky at all. I personally have always maintained that his having these sorts of relations is tantamount to pedophilia. I suppose you could say that all this lonely god business has gotten to him, but it's just kind of ick to me, no matter how you slice it. IMO this whole "shipper" slant to DW reduces the show to the level of a soap opera. While I'm listing the not wacky stuff I've read so far, I have to include 2 of Mike's theories. While I don't think that the War Chief is the Master, Mike is not the 1st person to have proposed it. I think someone kicked this around on 1 of the msg boards when the topic was The War Games. I don't see any evidence, but I think it's a harmless enough theory. The woman at the End of Time IS Susan, IMO, until I hear differently! I was 50/50 between it being Susan or Romana, but I'm hoping for Susan.

I love the DW DVDs for the extras & these particular Stripped for Actions are AWESOME, however I'm not sure I really get the Matrix type extras on both disks. Oh well, can't win them all I s'pose.

Don't forget that old devil, the cell phone. I only got mine relatively recently ('06) but I have a friend who is 21 whose had one for like 9 years. 100% agree about the DVR!

My collection has recently been updated and I'm the proud owner of the Dalek War Box Set, Keys of Marinus & the Black Guardian Trilogy. Now if only my fairy godmother would grant me The War Games...

I don't get the hate for Caprica! I find it intriguing, well-written & fascinating! Their universe is like ours but different in the same way that BSG's was but even moreso. None of the characters are simple or easy to understand, they are all complex, captivating people who can't be summed up in a few words. I find Caprica to be a beautifully constructed breath of fresh air on a channel whose airtime is overcrowded with fake ghost hunters & pro wrestling.

It's a shame that he had to go out like this. Here I was, hoping for some kind of turnaround...

Have I missed something? Did Bigger on the Inside get sneakily cancelled like DW did? I'm getting frantic with the wait!!

Sorry I'm posting too late for the podcast, but I personally find it hard to fault William Hartnell for the mistakes he made. It seems to me like a lot of the complaints about him are really more to do with his era than with him per se. I think if you watched shows of that era that were made in the same way (Dark Shadows springs to mind)you'd notice that flubbed lines were actually really common at a time when re-shoots were almost totally unheard of & blooper reels were non-existent. I like the slower approach of the Hartnell years. I recently showed "The Edge of Destruction" to a friend & his main complaint was that nothing really seemed to HAPPEN, and while I suppose that's true, this story isn't about happenings, it's about how our heroes coalesce as a team. Storytelling was different then, not every story had to have 5 plot twists and a million dollar budget. Also, characters developed over time. I think it's cool that Hartnell was NEVER intended as the hero of the show, but rather a sort of anti-hero. The whole "man of action" component of Dr Who really doesn't appear until the 70s. The 1st Doctor has character flaws, certainly, but learns from his mistakes and is a better person for having taken the journey. You don't really see this sort of development of the Doctor's character again until Big Finish get hold of Colin Baker....

After a summer of poverty, I finally decided to splurge a little, and got the E-Space Trilogy as well as Attack of the Cybermen & The Romans/The Rescue. Looking forward to The War Games & The Keys of Marinus!!

Tom Baker to Peter Davison got my vote. It's the 1st regen I ever saw, and it still feels epic to me. All the flashbacks of his enemies saying his name, followed by his companions doing the same, followed by the Watcher's merge made the whole thing sublime IMO. Peter to Colin is a close second, followed even more closely by Eccleston to Tenant.

While we're on the topic of Classic Series actors' appearing in NuWho, Geoffrey Palmers (Capt Hardaker from Voyage of the Damned) was in "Doctor Who and the Silurians" as well as "The Mutants" back in the 70s w Jon Pertwee.

But do you get to see his penis though?

A new BSG re-imagining is a completely iditotic idea. The Eick/Moore creation is absolutely sublime--why mess with perfection? I found the original show boring and inane but the re-imagined series was gripping and relevant. Bryan Singer isn't going to bring anything new to the table, there is absolutely ZERO need for a BSG feature film without Tricia Helfer & Co.
