  1. Yep. Still you've got to admire they're progressive thinking in being willing to cast a black actress because she deserved the role any way. The producers had a hilarious mix of forward and backward thinking.
  2. Mike, Shana, the reason why The New Class lasted so long was because they changed at least two cast members per year. I think it took three years to get rid of the first new class entirely. Edit: Also, just as a point of interest, Lisa was originally meant to be Jewish American Princess* but they decided to cast Lark Voorhies any way.** * A term taught to me by a Jewish girl. Blame her for any incidental anti-semitism there. ** I'm disturbed by my own well of knowledge on the subject of Saved By The Bell. Yet somehow my web development knowledge needs constant refreshing however. My damned brain.
  3. I salute your bravery doing these without a Rifftrax. You'll truly have earned the laughs from that once you get around to them.
  4. Dammit Tom, keep up. Look, I know that what I said seems crude and horrible, but watch the episode and you'll understand that those are the only appropriate terms,
  5. I have never been so simultaneously attracted to and terrified of a woman as I was with April on last night's Parks & Rec. I was scaroused. I had a fearection.
  6. Sorry I missed this one. I was in the middle of France at the time. Glad you enjoyed Dante. The other main artist is John Burns, and I think you'll like his work as well.
  7. It's mostly going to be remembered for that fucking travesty of a power ballad.
  8. Yeah, when you have your "breakout character" shack up with a 2 year old, the audience will react pretty badly. The best characters by far were the Doctor, Seven and Tuvok. Kate Mulgrew had a really strong presence but she was failed by the writing. Frankly Voyager featured a lot of missed opportunities but had some pretty decent episodes. I can't help but feel that the missed opportunities on Voyager influenced Ron Moore's decisions on BattleStar Galactica.
  9. Free 6 page Judge Dredd comic Basically, there was a production screw up and the artwork ended up being printed in a very low quality, so 2000AD decided to make up for it by putting it up on their website. For reference, the bearded guy is Dolman, a clone of Dredd who dropped out of the Academy of Law. The Justice Department made him get a face change before he left the Academy.
  10. Ah, okay. Well, you know my position on that one. Also, did they miss Amy picking up the gun and saying "I'm easily worth two men. You can come along if you like." Also while Nefertitti was held hostage by that bastard Walder Filtch Frey, she got herself out of it when the opportunity arose.
  11. I seem to have missed this. What sexism debate?
  12. Seen this and I really enjoyed it. Urban was really good as dredd and thirlby was great as Anderson. It was quite lean and the violence was ridiculously over the top. Overall, I preferred this to the dark knight
  13. Free 16 page preview comic starring Ma-Ma. This comes out over here today. I'm unreasonably excited but I'm tempering it with managed expectations. Run time is 95 minutes which bodes well as it's unlikely to be bloated.
  14. I don't normally double-dip (I have the first and last stories in this collection) but this looks good First story is the best as it features art by Simon Bisley, including this page which is an homage to this classic Dredd panel The first story is a fantastic team up, but from what I understand of the middle stories, they're basically filler due to the incredibly long time Glenn Fabry took with Die Laughing, which was meant to be the direct sequel to Judgement on Gotham. Still, that line up of artists is fantastic and also includes Dermot Power, Glenn Fabry, Jason Brashill and Jim Murray. Definitely getting this.
  15. Good news, that means the statute of limitations on your crimes have expired! Long may your terrible reign continue.
  16. They only just finished filming the Christmas Special a couple of weeks ago, so the timing suggests that she was already cast as the new companion when this show was being shot. I will fully concede that we're not going to know if she is the new companion or not until she starts full time, but there's a stark difference between her very central role here and Freema Agyeman and Karen Gillan's bit parts prior to their debuts.
  17. Well no, but I don't think they were cast as the new companions at the time those episodes were filmed whereas Jenna-Louise Coleman was.
  18. Judge Dredd: America is available for the Kindle Fire. US edition. UK edition. The lead story is widely regarded as the best Judge Dredd story ever and probably has the tone most in line with the upcoming film. Stavros has read this story as well and he can attest to its quality. The art's by Colin McNeil who also provided the art for Insurrection. This is well worth your time and money.
  19. Some thoughts on the episode, particularly about the Daleks and their motivations. I mostly sorted this out in my head in a discussion with Hannah last night, but i thought it was worth sharing here.
  20. I really liked that episode. Fantastic opener.
  21. Further to the poster above for Pirates of Pangea, this is the cover for its debut issue: I was already intrigued enough but there's so much to love about this cover, from the Pirate ship riding on the back of a ghost dinosaur(!) to the way the main character is presented front and centre. Apprehensive, a little cautious but curious and ready to jump in. When you consider that whatever she's looking at clearly scares and intrigues her more than the ship behind her, you do wonder what it is and how fantastic it must be. I'm clearly going to steal these from my godson when I next visit him.
  22. Erm, Dante spoilers in Shining Knight's link for those of you who want to read Nikolai Dante. Can't wait to have the complete set of books on my shelf. I still absolutely love Amerika's cover.
  23. I actually quite liked Big Dave when I reread it (a mate of mine who was a couple of years older discovered girls and gave up comics, so gave me a couple of years worth of back issues). It was a pretty good send up of Lad culture but it was badly, badly misplaced. It was a Viz style comic taking up space in 2000AD, so I can see why people objected to it so vitriolically. Babe Race, I never read and I'm glad for it by the sounds of things. Black Light was okay, as was Vector 13, but they were incredibly bland X-Files copies. I can see why the audience who'd read Necropolis and Rage felt like the comic was dying at that point. What wasn't awful was fairly bland and Judge Dredd was only any good when Wagner was writing it. No one else could get a handle on him or the world in quite the same way. The Pit really was a huge turn around and really expanded Dredd's world after the stagnation that had set in after Necropolis.
