  1. If this is the first time you're reading this four-part article, might I suggest you go back and read parts one and two first. They'll fill you in on the reason I've crafted this piece, and give you a greater sense of how I would shape the Marvel Universe. If you've been following along since the start, then you know the drill. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/if-i-ran-marvel-03
  2. We've gone another month without an issue of Civil War, but we still have a dozen tie-ins to discuss. Which one of us is even closer to changing sides? Only one way to find out! The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_068.mp3
  3. What is it that makes a Halloween movie? Not just any scary movie will do. You need something with atmosphere; something that will capture your imagination while you're stuck inside the house. A movie can really be ruined by continual pausing, but the experience can be enhanced if it is the right movie. A movie that makes one scared to be home alone can really get the heart rate going when the doorbell rings. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/reddick/reel-dread-05
  4. After years filled with rumors, changed plans, ditched ideas, denials and confirmations, Square-Enix finally released upgraded, invigorated versions of its two earliest RPGs. In Final Fantasy: Origins, the legendary developer has collected two absolute gems; the scene-altering original Final Fantasy and its sequel Final Fantasy II. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/final-fantasy-origins
  5. Thanks to an article by Mark Millar, last week I decided to buy Marvel Entertainment and inject my vast creative input. Or I would if I had, like, a billion dollars. Since I can barely afford to pay my bills, I can only use my platform here to speculate as to what I would do if I found a cold, hard billion laying around. In the first part of this article I took a look at Marvel's various imprints; today I'm retooling everything from Amazing Spider-Man through Deadpool. 6. There is just something about seeing a huge mass of slowly moving people walking the streets in a dark neighborhood that warms my heart. I always loved Halloween. From a very early age I was dressing as various monsters both cinematic and made-up. While I wasn't the only first grader dressed as Dracula, I was the only kid in second grade dressed as Freddy Krueger and the only kid in fourth grade dressed as a nondescript grim reaper. I ate it up. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/reddick/reel-dread-04
  7. Kellen Scrivens, the ambitious host of Anticipation, is here to present not one... but two anime reviews! The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_066.mp3
  8. From the very moment I heard rumors of Square's possible relationship with Disney to the first time I actually sat down with that familiar black controller and tried to prepare myself for whatever I was about to take in, I didn't know what to make of this one. I'd seen the screenshots, I'd read the reviews, but I still wasn't quite sure what I was in for, nor how I should react to its release. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/kingdom-hearts
  9. When you crack open a Garth Ennis-written comic book, you know what to expect: smart storytelling, well-rounded characters, a deep look at whatever subject he has on his mind, as well as an overabundance of violence, brash language and sexual content. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/sosn/sosn-004
  10. Several years ago comic book writer Mark Millar wrote an interesting piece for Comic Book Resources entitled Mark Millar, President and Publisher of DC Comics. Having read said article earlier this year and having interviewed for an editorial position at Marvel late last year (where this eventually would have been one of my many duties), an obvious idea hit me: What if I ran Marvel... and DC? What follows then is the first part in the "If I Ran..." series of articles. Just as the title implies, part one will focus on Marvel's many imprints. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/if-i-ran-marvel-01
  11. It's 1987. Let me set the scene: The Iran-Contra was cooling down. The Unabomber was blowing up. Rudolf Hess was found dead in his prison cell two months after Ronald Reagan challenged Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down that wall." In a show of stunningly poor judgment, the British people elected Margaret Thatcher to Prime Minister. The world's stock markets and the Peruvian soccer team's airplane plummeted while the world's population rose to a nice, round five billion. 12. I'm one of those Mortal Kombat enthusiasts who sees the past through a pair of the ever-popular rose-tinted glasses. Even though I'd never fought a single round of 3D-rendered MK prior to purchasing Deception, I unconsciously deemed every game since that switch to be of lesser quality than their vid-captured predecessors. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/mortal-kombat-deception
  13. Coordinating a massive crossover, such as Civil War, can't be an easy task. Counting lead-ins, direct tie-ins, indirect tie-ins and aftermath issues, Marvel will have meshed around 120 comic books and launched nine brand new titles by the time the event is over (or shortly thereafter). So mistakes are bound to happen. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/sosn/sosn-003
  14. After last week's introductory column I wracked my brain wondering where to start with my first article of content. Would I do a movie review? That would, in my mind, automatically pigeonhole this as a review column. It's not. Would I do a retrospective of a particular director or genre? No, but that will all come later. Instead, I will start at the very roots of horror, and filmmaking for that matter. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/reddick/reel-dread-02
  15. Please tell me you're reading Daredevil! Please tell me I can write "7h15 b00k 15 73h r0x0rz, dudz" and leave it at that. No? There are still foolish people who aren't reading Daredevil? Poor, poor, foolish people. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/sosn/sosn-002
  16. I think it's pretty safe to say that a large number of people reading this are diehard fans of something geeky, be it comic books, video games, science fiction, whatever. I also think it's safe to say that when something is created specifically for the fans of whatever medium (or genre) we're talking about, it can be enjoyed on a much deeper level. In the case of anime / manga, Genshiken is a great example of this; it is a series created by diehard manga fans for diehard manga fans about diehard manga fans. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/a/genshiken-01
  17. Fear is an emotion that is both instinctual and learned. Children are born afraid of falling and of loud noises. Any series of tests (ethically questionable tests, but tests nonetheless) can prove that. A child is not born afraid of dogs, but, for example, if they were to witness a pack of rabid dogs savagely tear their father limb from limb then developing a fear of dogs would be a natural reaction. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/columns/reddick/reel-dread-01
  18. Leading up to One Year Later, Selina Kyle was a conflicted character. Having learned Zatanna and several other members of the Justice League used magic to alter her mind (hence the switch from career criminal to protector of the East End), Selina no longer knew herself. Everything she thought she knew was wrong. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/c/sosn/sosn-001
  19. Otaku, it's a word that many anime fans across the continent are split on. Some feel it's too self-absorbed. While others find it to be a term of endearment, one that is earned after hours and hours of devoted fandom. Personally I fall into the latter of these two categories. Unlike others who refuse to be classified as such, I feel I have earned the title. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/devolution-to-otaku

    Jak 3

My expectations going into each successive chapter of the PlayStation 2's Jak and Daxter saga have fluctuated like an unpredictable stock on a busy day. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/jak-3
  21. Several months ago I posted a thread over at the forums asking writers to help with a follow-up to last year's Ultimate Batman piece. It was quickly decided that we should focus on Ultimate Green Lantern, simply because the concept has endless potential — the power can be alien, magical, spiritual, mental, genetic, whatever. What follow then are three such updates, all of which provide a new starting line for the Green Lantern concept. Enjoy. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/ultimate-green-lantern
  22. You know, it's rumored that Blinx the Cat, star of both Blinx: The Time Sweeper and its eventual sequel, the imaginatively titled Blinx 2, was meant to be Microsoft's answer to Mario, Sonic and Crash Bandicoot -- a sort of unofficial franchise player for the Xbox. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/blinx
  23. Marvel's companywide event, Civil War, has sparked not only national attention and speculation as to the outcome, but also great debate amongst its readership. Is the Superhuman Registration Act beneficial to the nation, does it strip superpowered humans of their freedoms? Those are just two of the concerns raised in the following letters to Marvel's fictional George W. Bush. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/articles/civil-war-open-letters
  24. Silent Hill is a franchise that I'd always managed to somehow avoid, though never deliberately so. Despite my curiosity about the cult following the series had developed and my lifelong affinity for similarly themed games, films and stories, the town of Silent Hill and I just kept narrowly missing one another. We were like two ships passing in the dark, not altogether unaware of the other's presence, but never really reaching out and making contact. Jak II

I didn't care all that much for the original Jak and Daxter. Let's just get that out of the way right now. I found it was too short, the gameplay too straightforward and repetitive, the characters too sticky-sweet and friendly, and the visuals completely lacking for a first wave next-gen title. The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/reviews/v/jak-II
