    Episode 47

Welcome to episode 47, where things continue to get even worse, or even more fillery, depending on which show you're watching. Watch characters get detailed for no other reason than the need of the plot. Watch people get even closer to the edge. Watch writers make the mistake of going too far with a meta narrative. Oh, and good stuff happens here and there, just enough to give you hope that will be quickly crushed. Join Will and Hannah as they go through Buffy's "Normal Again" and "Entropy," and Angel's "Forgiving" and "Double or Nothing." Episode 301

It's the impromptu theme of female-centric surgery / body modification this week. You know, that ol' gem! First up, Darryll returns to embark on a Roadkill Review of Jovanka Vuckovic's Captured Bird and the Soska Twins' American Mary. Then Devil Dinosaur Jr. cuts into Excision in a brand new Stay Scary. Jeff joins Desmond to dissect a young woman's dysfunctional relationship with her own tattoo in Comforting Skin. Some songs to rock your body: "Body and Blood" by Ghost BC, "Mary Get Your Knife" by pageninetynine, "Wild Failure" by White Lung, "Tattoo" by Abolitionist, and "Cut Off Your Hands" by Fit for Rivals. 4. Can a short story collection be a novel? Will eReaders destroy us all? Are 1970s TV miniseries adaptations by their very nature inherently terrible? And what exactly did Dan and Wendee think about The Martian Chronicles? The answer to these questions, and many, many more, await! 5. In "The Amazing Seal," Sora takes a new pet home with her, hijinks naturally ensue. "The Amazing Girl Who Doesn't Smile" introduces us to diabolo world champion Rosetta. "An Amazing Star Even in Tough Times" introduces us to Layla's emotionally distant father (shockingly, a major character with living parents in this anime). Finally, as Kellen and James continue their review through Kaleido Star, "My Amazing Challenge for the Lead Role" and "Facing an Amazing Wall" sees the beginning of Kaleido Stage's production of The Little Mermaid. As an added bonus, friend of the show Eric Vale teaches you (yes, you) how to become an anime voice actor. Episode 300

Join us to celebrate 300 episodes of Dread Media as we pay tribute to the Godfather of Italian Genre Cinema: Mario Bava! For having such a huge influence on the art form, he's been relatively under-represented on the show, and boy are we going to change that this week! To kick things off, the boss himself, Michael David Sims, joins us to talk about Black Sunday. Then Adam, Jeff, and Luke stop by to talk about the comedic proto-giallo The Girl Who Knew Too Much. Duane, of course, suggested an anthology film as he joins Desmond to review Black Sabbath. Darryll comes back to divert the genre over to a Viking epic as he helps us come to terms with Knives of the Avenger. Lastly, the show doesn't feel complete without a Stay Scary segment, so Devil Dinosaur Jr. gives us a doozy as he looks at the awesome but mis-titled Kill, Baby... Kill! Damien's back to look at the bizarre fiance-killersploitation flick Hatchet for the Honeymoon. And, finally, Chris is back to check out the prototypical slasher film A Bay of Blood (aka Twich of the Death Nerve). There's a ton of songs, too! "Godfather" by Fantomas, "Burn the Witch" by Queens of the Stone Age, "Bear Witness" by Doomriders, "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath, "The Wild Rover" by Tyr, "Sorceress" by Angel Witch, "Electric Flower" by The Melvins, "Last Will and Testament" by The Burning Hell, and "Monday Morning" by Pulp. Thanks so much for listening. Please donate, if you can, to www.dreadmedia.com. Here's to 300 more! 7. In Bigger on the Inside's penultimate David Tennant episode, Dan and Mike speak about Dreamland. The computer-animated adventure is lackluster, to say the least. Episode 46

Big Damn Heroes has hit episode 46, and see this asshole? He should be dead, for all the incredibly stupid shit he does in this episode. Oh, don't worry, we'll be yelling about that for quite a while, along with the most fucking pointless character regression on Buffy. Also, to be honest, most of the episodes this week are really depressing. So get a pint of ice cream, beer, or whatever and join Hannah and Will as they cover Buffy's "As You Were" and "Hell's Bells," and Angel's "Loyalty" and "Sleep Tight." Weird towns, angels, and teenage... shenanigans are all the subjects that pop up on this week's episode. 14. Biggles is a British World War I fighter pilot, and Jim is an American entrepreneur from the 1980s. Together, they derp through time. Dave is a man with a soundboard, Ian is a Skype ninja, and Mike is displeased with time travel in a time travel movie. Together, they review Biggles: Adventures in Time. Also, Peter Cushing is in no way creepy. Nope. Not at all. Never mind that length of rope in the corner, the stuffed raven on a perch, and the bag of automatic machine guns. In what was originally planned to be a mini-breather episode before the pain of Transformers, James and Damien instead spend a full-length episode tackling Heroes of Wrestling, which is widely regarded as the worst wrestling pay-per-view of all time. 16. After going through a four-month downer with Nana, Kellen decides to get happy again by teaming up with James Trenchard to begin covering the amazing first season of Kaleido Star! In "My Amazing Stage Debut!" we discover the effect of jet lag in the anime universe (none, for the record). In "My Amazing & Lonely Challenge!" we discover the power of the montage. In "The Amazing Distant Stage" we begin to discover that some cliches are abounding. In "Try Hard & You'll Get an Amazing Chance" we see how the death of a loved one can be used for character motivation. Send in "My Amazing Distant Family" we see the trope beaten to death. Episode 298

It seems we pay tribute to the great HP Lovecraft every few months or so here on Dread Media. It's simply a testament to the impact he's had on the genre. Or maybe it's because I have lost my mind and can't get him out of my head! We take a look at two very different Stuart Gordon adaptations and a documentary this week. First, Jeff and Luke join Desmond to look at the classic Re-Animator. Then Devil Dinosaur Jr. checks out the documentary Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown. Then Brittney joins the three fellas from the first review to look at Dagon. We listen to some Lovecraftian tunes full of non-Euclidean geometry as well: "Release the Kraken" by Clutch, "Reanimator" by The Browns, "The Wait" by Metallica, "The Innsmouth Look" by The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, and "Cthulhu" by Beastwars.
