    Episode 288

Just to make sure things don't get boring, this week's theme is slightly specific: foreign horror / sci-fi films! First up, Adam joins Desmond for a review of the Korean futuristic anthology film Doomsday Book. Then Duane and Desmond take a look at the morose Swiss space travel film Cargo. Then Desmond goes solo on the latest Eclipse Series box set from Criterion called When Horror Came to Shochiku, which contains the following obscure Japanese horror / sci-fi flicks: The X From Outer Space; Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell; The Living Skeleton; and Genocide. There's some science fictiony tunes to check out as well: "Let the End Begin" by Ancient VVisdom, "Don't Open 'Til Doomsday" by The Misfits, "Into the Void" by Nine Inch Nails, "Skeletons of Society" by Hellsongs, and "Science Gone Too Far" by The 69 Eyes. 4. In 1992, if someone said that a courtroom comedy starring Tommy DeVito as a lawyer, Herman Munster as a judge, Daniel LaRusso as a college kid, and that girl from Oscar would be considered a classic decades later, they would have been laughed at. But that's exactly what My Cousin Vinny has become: a classic. Join Shana and Mike as they praise the original while attempting to remake a nearly perfect piece of cinema. 5. Two guys whose voices you'll recognize sit around laughing at the titles of pornos and making fun of music videos. A healthy appreciation for the female form. Copyright laws possibly being broken? Is this an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head? Nope! The Commonwealth Crew is back in Women in Horror Month to pay their respects to one of the greatest female horror comics characters in their coverage of Jim Wynorski's well-intentioned but indescribably inadequate comic book horror film Vampirella. Good lord! There are no words. [ 26:30 || 12.9 MB ] To listen, click here: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/dreadmedia/episodes/dreadmediapresents_038.mp3

    Episode 287

On the eve of major dental surgery, Desmond presents some great reviews of horror media! First up, Desmond is joined by Adam, Jeff, and Luke to review the Columbian military horror film The Squad. Devil Dinosaur Jr. reviews the odd Monster Dog in a brand new Stay Scary. Then Desmond returns to go solo on a review of the British horror anthology television series Chiller. Don't forget feedback and tunes: "Death or Victory" by Ancient VVisdom, "Matando Gueros 97" by Brujeria, "Devil's Food" and "The Black Widow" by Alice Cooper, "The Prophet" by Iron Maiden, and "Teeth & Tissue" by The Headstones. 9. This next batch of episodes of Nana score 49 out of a possible 50 points from Kellen and Lisa. Kellen sings some Kanye West, the duo discuss the method of lying to your friends, and a character drives Kellen to want to punch a voice in the throat. By the end of this we need to cheer up, so today's music is supplied by Prozzak. Episode 286

This week, Dread Media commemorates Women in Horror Month by celebrating some "womanly" films, and by tipping the hat to some of Desmond's favorite female horror comic characters and badass rock chicks! First up, Desmond's own personal favorite woman in horror, Megan, joins him for a review of the lesbian werewolf flick Jack and Diane. In a double shot of Stay Scary, Devil Dinosaur Jr. covers the novella and film version of The Woman by Jack Ketchum and Lucky McKee. Darryll returns to appropriately talk about some lovely ladies of Hammer Films in a review of Twins of Evil. How about some tantalizing terror tunes? All right: "Girl in a Coma" by Fit for Rivals, "I Kissed a Girl" by The Vibrators, "Patient Satellite" by Sean Spillane, "Dad" by Nomeansno, "Mental Twin" by Entombed, and "Girl Talk" by The Donnas. 12. Forget all of the talk about the weather, the very first modern multi-Doctor story ("Time Crash"), and Kylie Minogue's turn on the program ("Voyage of the Damned"). What makes this episode of Bigger on the Inside so historic is that Dan and Mike mark the very first appearance of the man, the myth, the legend: Wilfred Mott! 13. Even if you've never seen the abysmal Runaway Bride, Shana and Mike implore you to listen to this episode of For Better or Worse. In the short lifespan of the show, never have they encountered a movie that insults its audience more and has zero redeeming qualities. As a matter of fact, it's so bad, one of the hosts outright removes a main character for the remake. Episode 40

Big Damn Heroes is officially over the hill at 40 episodes! And man, some of these episodes this week make us feel old. Over on Buffy, we get introduced to our villains, encounter some major stretches of credulity, and have a Halloween episode that's more about the subplots than it is the holiday! And over on Angel, Fred gets a personality just in time for one of the more horrifying and triggering episodes if you're a lady in the Whedonverse! Join Will and Hannah with some kittens and a bus or two as they cover Buffy's "Life Serial" and "All the Way," and Angel's "Fredless" and "Billy." 16. The melodrama continues and keeps getting bigger as Kellen and Lisa review the next set of episodes from Nana. The usual complaints about Viz's treatment of the production remain, but the multiple relationship blowups, secrets being revealed, and the most screwed up 15 year old in all of anime keep the scores high. And to celebrate the breakups, we spin some No Doubt. [ 1:36:55 || 46.6 MB ] To listen, click here: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/animezingpodcast/episodes/animezing_133.mp3

    Episode 26

Ian and Dave return with a mixed bag of Blake's 7 this month. In "Sand," the Scorpio crew and Servalan travel to a planet which might contain a valuable new resource. The resource turns out to be sentient sand with a rudimentary knowledge of basic farming techniques. Can the crew overpower evil sand? Why are we even asking that question? In "Gold," an old acquaintance of Avon's asks for help to steal a fortune in gold from a luxurious cruise ship, but who is really pulling the strings? They also discuss Tarrant acting stoned, the actor Peter Craze, Dave gets to channel Marvin Gaye again, and who in their right mind would think that an episode where the villain is some sand was a good idea? 20. Cherish the day that the Tirades return with everything you've come to expect from the show: Sade references, Atari bartering, and exploding model planes. James and Damien tackle Highlander II: The Quickening, a movie so incomprehensibly flawed that it has become synonymous with horrible cinema. So hang on to your love, because this movie proves it's never as good as the first time. 21. After a 16-year break, Star Wars returned in 1999 with the first entry in a brand new prequel trilogy: The Phantom Menace. Hopes were high, maybe too high, but what was delivered was not what was expected. Listen as Dan and Mike examine the movie that gave us the origin of Anakin Skywalker, very little Obi-Wan, and defined The Force. Also, Mike has a theory about Qui-Gon Jinn.
