    Episode 216

It's a mega-episode this week as Greg Lamberson stops by to talk tortured private detectives, werewolves, snow sharks, and... Tim Hortons? Then Desmond and Darryll dive into the classic John Carpenter film Escape from New York, where the last thing Kurt Russell wants to do is occupy Wall Street! Then, we can't go too long without a cinema verite film, can we? Zombie Diaries 2: World of the Dead gets a solo review. The following tunes get a spin: "Cosmic Drama" by Voivod, "Year of the Wolf" by Motorhead, "Escape" by Metallica, "Vacant World" by Diablo Blvd, and "A Drug Against Wall Street" by KMFDM. 3. With only a few minor spoilers, the guys briefly discuss "The Wedding of River Song." Then a listener tells a tale of a Doctor Who-related prank that nearly went wrong. As for the two stories, first, in "Warriors of the Deep," the Silurians and Sea Devils are back, and are up to their old man-eradicating ways. And in "The Awakening," a long-buried alien force takes control of a village during a reenactment of the English Civil War. Mixed in with the green paint of the Myrka are lots of truly random references, often to better programming. Note: The duo experienced Internet issues during the recording, leading to some less-than-desirable bits of audio. 4. It's time for another edition of Saturday Morning 101, and this time Dan and Jonathan cover the classic The Real Ghostbusters. All these years later, does it hold up? Well, there's only one way to find out! [ 1:34:45 || 45.6 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_482.mp3
  5. When it comes to fighting games, the Mortal Kombat series really is my cup of tea. I'm not good enough to play insanely detailed games like the modern Street Fighter or Marvel vs. Capcom. Mortal Kombat gives someone like me a puncher's chance, no pun intended. But, for various reasons -- such as poorly designed games, awful animation, and some really stupid Fatalities -- my devotion to the franchise has left me with many a bitter taste in my mouth. That said, sit back and enjoy my rundown of the lamest, dumbest, and most ridiculous of all the Mortal Kombat finishers. Any Fatality described here "earned" its way onto this list by either being completely lame, aesthetically ugly to watch, or just nonsensical to the point that even die-hard fans wouldn't be able to excuse it. Episode 14

Episode 14 of Big Damn Heroes is coming a hell of a lot quicker than you'd expect, and with it the end of an era of Buffy. In this episode, some wooly-headed liberals get devoured, Preston and Hannah discuss high school nostalgia (or lack thereof), some pretty epic fight scenes happen, random references to things that will happen a few seasons down the line are made, people are wholesomely evil to the bitter end, and a new status quo for the show is set into motion with the departure of a certain character. Come listen to the Heroes wrap up the third season of Buffy with "Choices," "The Prom," and the two-part "Graduation Day." Oh, also, Avengers trailer! And explosions. 7. In the second installment of the TV-based segment, Megan is back to join Desmond on a discussion of the third season of the Canadian-produced Syfy show Sanctuary. Sexual innuendo and Hollow Earth all in one episode? What more do you want? [ 22:25 || 10.9 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/dreadmedia/episodes/dreadmediapresents_017.mp3

  9. In the first installment of Hey, Gurlfriend, Hannah and Will tackle the 80s-tastic, Muppet-filled, logic-puzzle-failing wonderland that is the 1986 movie Labyrinth. Is the Labyrinth really just an appendix to the Aperture testing facilities? What are the D&D classes for our main quartet? What do date rape, peaches, and hoarders have to do with anything? And what on earth is The Bulge? Tune in and find out, gurl! [ 1:37:53 || 45.0 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/theshow/episodes/e2ts_481.mp3

    Episode 11

Dave and Ian once again invite you to climb aboard their ramshackle audio caravan as they watch two more episodes of Blake's 7. In "Killer," Avon and Vila blackmail an old accomplice of Avon to help them steal a vital crystal, while Blake warns a group of scientists about a mysterious ship that has been missing for centuries. In "Hostage," Travis contacts Blake to offer an alliance, and, to make sure he has Blake's attention, holds Blake's cousin prisoner. Along the way, they get annoyed by British light entertainment of the 1990s, and fantasize about Blake's 7 as directed by Chris Nolan. Episode 215

Remember when I told you I'd podcast you last? I lied! This week Desmond and Darryll sit through a gory action double feature extravaganza across the ages. First up, the bizarre 1980 revenge-driven vigilante piece The Exterminator. Then 2009's Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren vehicle, Universal Soldier: Regeneration! These songs will get you in the mood for carnage: "Opening Titles (The Exterminator)" by Joe Renzetti, "Exterminate!" by Amen, "New Model No. 15" by Marilyn Manson, and "Punishment" by Biohazard. What the hell are you doing reading this? Listen! [ 1:18:02 || 37.7 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/dreadmedia/episodes/dreadmedia_215.mp3
  12. You thought the Tool discography was all a lovefest, didn't you? Even with a lukewarm reaction to the first EP, the guys were full of praise. This time, everything changes. As they slog their way through the audio disc that was part of Tool's Salival boxset, the guys make fun of young people a lot. Desmond bemoans the length of almost every song. But, most controversially, Damien makes a statement so harsh, Indian percussionists may never listen to this show again. Because of said statement, Desmond would like to take the show notes to let the ACLU know that he is Canadian, and regardless of what horrific and inflammatory remarks Damien makes, Desmond has diplomatic immunity. Or something. Plus, tips for navigating automated operators! [ 1:15:51 || 36.6 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/droppedd/episodes/droppedd_001-04.mp3

    Episode 13

Episode 13 is finally here! Why is Preston singing R. Kelly songs, and what does it have to do with Willow? Why are they watching an episode of Scooby-Doo? What conclusion does Hannah come to about a fellow Earth-2.net cohost? And why the hell are they up so early? Join the Heroes as they cover "Consequences," "Doppelgangland," "Enemies," and "Earshot." 14. For this edition of the Tirades, the guys are sinking it from the free throw line to bring you a review of Kazaam, a movie that they somehow all watched despite none of them wanting to take the blame for choosing it. What follows is two hours of audio that includes Shaq rhyming, a Barton Fink reference, the guys losing interest about halfway through and just browsing IMDB for a while, and Damien's poetry writing debut. 15. After suffering through nine episodes of Blue Drop, the final four ("Cirsium," "Thoroughwort," "Cosmos," and "Rosmarinus") finally break Kellen and James. The guys throw the format out, Kellen begins to apologize to anyone who's seen this show, and James eventually starts drinking as the two deliver some of the angriest rants in the history of the Earth-2.net family of podcasts. Also, Kellen makes an announcement about a future episode. [ 30:28 || 14.1 MB ] The above is from: http://www.earth-2.net/podcasts/animezingpodcast/episodes/animezing_094.mp3
  16. I have one meager request. It's really a simple thing to ask for, considering I've now seen (and in several cases, suffered through) all five Final Destination movies. Given my resentment for the previous two films, mild annoyance for the one before it, and my admiration for the original, I think I'm owed something for spending so many dollars on these things. (And no, I don't want an autograph from Ali Larter or Devon Sawa.) That one thing I ask for is merely an explanation: What are these movies trying to be? Genuine enthusiasm. I can hardly contain myself. A new episode of Extra Lives, full of all the hilarious banter and gaming discussion you've come to expect. Relief. Aaron and Damien continue the Mass Effect playthrough, and finally get some interesting party members. Proud. They also learn about the rich history of the elcor. If that weren't enough, they take a moment to discuss Tennis. Yes, Tennis. If I could lift my arms, they would be applauding. Self-loathing. After a long time dabbling in other genre and cult fair, Desmond and Darryll bring it back to the horror side of things with their review of the classic giallo film Torso. Then Desmond goes solo on the following three recently released slashers: Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2, Bereavement, and Frat House Massacre. Killer tunes: "Saint of Killers" by Damn Laser Vampires, "Torso" by The Browns, "Black Chrome" by Turbonegro, "Legacy of Hate" by Fight, "Brother" by Murder by Death, and "Smiling Like a Killer" by Motorhead. 23. How the hell do two guys talk about an album for almost twice its running length? By going on tangents and making references to Blur, Jungian theory, Scientology, and El Santo of course! Desmond and Damien also tell a cool story about a Monty Python record that neither of them can quite recall. Math is involved. No one told us there would be math... or Kathy Griffin for that matter. Join in on Schizophrenic Six Degrees of Separation! Oh yeah! They also refer to Tool's third release: Aenima. Then, in an effort to prevent parliamentary democracy from ever forming, The Master attempts to stop King John of England from signing the Magna Carta ("The King's Demons"). As for the two most recent modern episodes of Doctor Who ("The Girl Who Waited" and "The God Complex"), there are spoilers between 3:40 and 13:40. Vroom! Vroom!
