  1. Whatever happened to dead being dead?

Seriously, fuck this. One of the best ideas they had in a long time was that recentplan of 'Dead means dead.' I don't want to see them pulling some Hulk Hogan retirement deal, and coming back after six issues. It messes up the continuity, and I find it disrespectful towards the readers. Plus, it lessens the impact of the death.

And I will comment soon on Chris Claremont attempting to completely re-write everything Grant Morrison did. Seriously, what happened there? Was there an executive decision to fuck up all the progressive things Morrison brought to the formula?

  2. Wicker Man

    Rocky Horror Picture Show

Withnail and I - If you haven't already, see it, and understand why Monty is a cunt.

    Casablanca

    Dracula (Christopher Lee version)

    Interview with the Vampire

    Chasing Amy

    Night of the Living Dead

    The Omen

    Halloween

    The Princess Bride

    The Commitments (Mustand, Sally!)

    Being John Malkovich

    The Life of Brian

    Dangerous Liaisons

Ten Things I Hate About You - I will hear nothing against Julia Stiles.

Razor Blade Smile - Low budget erotic horror film from Britain. Fucking awesome movie.

  3. A story about the second coming. It's a three parter by Mark (Ultimate X-Men) Millar. Just finished, and should still be available. Go read it. Best thing I've read in a long time. Whatever you do, DO NOT skip to the end.

  4. Finally got round to reading this, and went straight through the archive in one sitting.

Very, very funny stuff. Horny Mom may be my favourite, although the adventures of bukakke girl, followed by the 'and that's where you come from' line was inspired.

  5. I've been chatting to Chynna Clugston Major for a while (she of Scooter Girl, Blue Monday, and that issue of Ultimate Team up set in a mall). Blue Monday is about a group of teenagers growing up. Kind of like Breakfast Club only funnier.

The latest issue is all about masturbation, and is seriously funny. However, she was lookiing for as many nicknames for female masturbation as possible. So naturally, she asked me.

Which is why, in this issue, one of the girls refers to 'doing the kit-kat shuffle.'

    I thank you.

    EDIT

I'm really not sure why I put this into Marvel. I need sleep.

  6. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you in that it is a zombie film.

    Zombies weren't originally the living-dead?

The black magic of voodoo sorcerers allegedly consists of various poisons (perhaps that of the puffer fish) which immobilize a person for days, as well as hallucinogens administered upon revival. The result is a brain damaged creature used by the sorcerers as slaves, viz., the zombies.

Credit to skepdic.com. Dates back long before the more recent concept of Zombies, which was a kind of bastardisation of the vampire myth.

  7. 2 - The po-facedness of Danny Boyle repeatedly saying 'It's not a zombie movie. it has nothing in common with Zombie movies. This is a psychological horror story about humanity'. Bollocks. Sheer bollocks. It was a zombie movie. They just ran. That's ALL.

There's a large group of people who disagree with you. They claim it isn't a zombie picture because 01. they weren't dead (just infected), and 02. they ran.

Yeah, but that large group are dicks.

Are they mindless? Do they want to kill me? Were they normal humans before? Can I become one of them if they succeed in attacking me? Then they're zombies. Lose the word 'infected' - that's just a story prop. It is, essentially, a zombie movie, and a conventional one at that, other than the running thing. And you know what? That's not a bad thing. There's been some great films and novels about zombies - I am Legend, although vampires, follows Zombie conventions more.

Also bear in mind, originally, zombies weren't dead - that came in with Zombie movies. Originally, they were mind-wiped slaves.

  8. What's that phrase: Hot cum in pants?  Yeah, that's me right now.

HOT HOT CUM IN YOUR PANTS.

    Capitals are a must.

I'll remember that for next time, which will probably be right after I read this book.

    Should be.

Put it this way - this was my thought process for the first six pages or so:

'Who's that? Who's that? Hawkeye! Cool! Who's that? She-Hulk! Cool, Bendis Dialogue rocks. Who's that? Oh, it doesn't matter, he/she just died suddenly! Wow! Cool!'

  9. See, I didn't like 28 days later for a couple of reasons:

1 - same directing group as did 'Trainspotting' and 'Shallow Grave'. This should have been better.

2 - The po-facedness of Danny Boyle repeatedly saying 'It's not a zombie movie. it has nothing in common with Zombie movies. This is a psychological horror story about humanity'. Bollocks. Sheer bollocks. It was a zombie movie. They just ran. That's ALL.

3 - Christopher Eccleston doing the worst acting I've ever seen him do, and he rocks, so that was a disappointment.

4 - Moral of the story? Zombies are bad, but not as bad as soldiers! Every soldier is a potential rapist!

And generally, needed to be better than any zombie movie made before, and it really wasn't. Luckily, the Dawn of the Dead remake blew it out of the water, as did Shawn of the Dead.

  10. It was strongly hinted in "Halloween 6" that Myers went though some sort of experiments. I suppose those experiments could have augmented his physical abiulities, durability and healing factor.

Can't recall if I've seen that one.

    Don't worry, nobody else did.

Six was the absolute drizzling shits.

Michael Myers works best when he's human, but he's got something about him. We don't know what, but something. As he was portrayed in numbers one, two and seven - funnily enough, the best of the series.

  11. I'm actually a huge fan of New Nightmare. I think they managed to convey Freddy crossing into the real world well, and the direction was good. Plus, it had that awesome moment of Heather Lagenkamps son singing the Freddy song, having never seen the movie.

Plus, when I first watched it ...in the middle of the night....in the middle of the countryside in Ireland....on my own....there's a scene where the clock strikes midnight...and the clock next to me...at the same moment, struck midnight.

Scared the shit out of me.

  12. Bendis said that he's been offered to take over Avengers as of issue 500, and to completely revamp it. While he does a lot of titles, he takes pride in the fact that they're all very different, so he doesn't want to do two team books. So he stepped down, and apologised for renaming Doom 'Von Damme'....

And according to Bendis, Millar backed down because he's a copycat.

  13. Surely the whole point was the Joker and Batman are more similar than they'd care to admit? That, in his own way, Batman is just as insane as The Joker. The main continuaty bits went into the stories - Barbaragets crippled - but the rest, to me, reads as a complete one off. Plus, note the awesome visual point - carried over from Watchmen - of each scene leading into the next, visually.

Batmans completely off his fucking NUT. That's why I love the story.

  14. Being an American, I've had little access to Doctor Who -- though I did see that Doctor Who: The Movie that Fox made in 1996 -- but Chris Eccleston as the Doctor will be very interesting. Especially considering his role in 28 Days Later.

Question: Is he the eighth doctor, or will they count him as the ninth? I only ask because the guy in Doctor Who: The Movie was supposed to be the eighth when the movie lead to a show, but it was so bad the show was never made. So, do fans ignore him, or do they consider The Movie as part of DW continuity? (Hence making Eccleston #9.)

They haven't confirmed. I believe that Russel T Davies (the new writer) HATES the Paul McGann movie - according to a line from Queer as folk - but he takes it seriously enough that the novels that spun off from the movie will probably be part of the 'gospel'.

Here is a link to some free web episodes. Check out the stories, including the Richard E Grant one.

  15. Do you know much about Dr Who? British Sci-Fi series that ran for 25 years, and has been cancelled since then. It's recently been confirmed that they are making a new series, and there's exciting news.

They've cast Chris Eccleston (Shallow Grave, 28 Days Later) as The Doctor....my personal choice would have been Anthony Stewart Head, but this is a damn good choice nonetheless...and it's being overseen by the guy who created 'Queer as Folk', which was an awesome show.

Are people interested in this? Do you know anything about it?

  16. 3 words: Preludes and Nocturnes.

Sandman owns on so many levels, it's scary.

Preludes and Nocturnes? I agree with you on the ownage bit....but personally, I found P and N to be the weakest arc of the whole thing...it was only with the last issue (the first Death issue) that Gaiman really got into his groove.

Personally, I'd say the best arc is The Kindly Ones, and the best one off being Ramadan.
