  1. Just finished Sinestro Corps war volume 2.

    Damn, this was awesome.

It nicely set up Blackest night, and just to make sure I read it properly:

The Anti-Monitor will be a Black Lantern!?

    I've read it as

The Anti-Monitor IS the Black Lantern. As in, his body created the Black Lantern Battery.

Of course, I could be interpreting it wrong.

  2. Ok, so I am practically jumping up and down in glee waiting for Blackest Night. I can't stop reading the build-up books and I'm hypothesizing what happens all the time.

Imagine my glee when I come to work and my co-worker tells me about this.

That two-page spread has me practically giddy. I warn you, though, don't look too in-depth if you're avoiding spoilers.

I'm loving most of the names there, but I'm really hesitant about the non-superpowered beings mentioned. Sue Dibny? Jonathan Kent? Maxwell Lord? Even Wesley Dodds and Digger Harkness were heroes defined by their weaponry. If these people appear as Black Lanterns, where's the advantage?

Is Maxwell Lord going to use a ring to scheme people to death?

Nonetheless - Al Pratt, Ted Kord, there are people there who are just freaking awesome.

  3. IGN Comics: Will we see Reborn reflecting Dark Reign? Will Norman Osborn have a heavy influence on the storyline?

Brevoort: Umm, I wouldn't say a heavy influence, but there's definitely an influence. Reborn happens now. It happens today. So Norman plays a role. You'll see the Dark Avengers. You'll see some of the Mighty Avengers. You'll see Dr. Doom. There will be a wide range of characters during the course of Reborn. So yeah, Norman is running the show and he and his guys will play a role.

Anyone else read that as, 'Oh shit, we didn't even think about that huge crossover we're doing right now. We should probably talk to someone about that'?

This just seems like a money grab to me. I don't see how they had this planned all along and haven't once thought that it might not work.

  4. From the Associated Press

Captain America rises from the dead for new series

    By ERIN CARLSON

    AP Entertainment Writer

NEW YORK (AP) — Captain America is rising from the grave.

The Marvel Comics superhero returns for the five-part series "Captain America Reborn," beginning July 1.

But Marvel won't disclose how he rises from the dead. Executive Editor Tom Brevoort teases that the character has been "on a Vonnegut-esque metaphysical journey," including some soul-searching about his place in the world.

"He hasn't just been lying in a cold grave for these many months," Brevoort says. "While he seems to be dead, his mind and his spirit" are active elsewhere.

Captain America, the superhero alter ego of Steve Rogers, was apparently shot and killed two years ago on the steps of a courthouse in lower Manhattan. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Rogers' sidekick Bucky Barnes took his place, continuing the series. Brevoort says Barnes will embark on a quest to revive Rogers after tracking down what really happened to him.

"There's definitely a question that must arise, which is 'Can there be more than one Captain America?"' says Brevoort. "And if not, even if there can't, what does this mean for Bucky? Where does he fit in the world now?"

According to Brevoort, some Bucky fans are none too pleased.

"Right this second, it's kind of a split," he says. "When Steve was first killed, there was great outcry. But then as Bucky has taken over as Cap, and has sort of struggled to fill those big shoes, a lot of our readers have really taken to him as a character."

He says Marvel planned to bring back Rogers in one shape or form and, given the general mood of the country, the timing seemed right to resurrect one of the comic book empire's most patriotic icons.

"It feels like there's a desire for hopefulness," he says. "A desire for heroes and for somebody to show us that we can be our better selves, and to help pull us all up by our bootstraps and get out of the situations that we find ourselves in."

I've heard nothing about a split. Most everyone I've talked to things this is a bad idea.

    After reading this:

"It feels like there's a desire for hopefulness," he says. "A desire for heroes and for somebody to show us that we can be our better selves, and to help pull us all up by our bootstraps and get out of the situations that we find ourselves in."

I feel like Marvel is completely, totally out of touch with their readership.

  5. Wow, those images, those creative teams - I have to have these somehow.

There's a brief about these in USA Today today. Not much new information for us, but they revealed that the entire run of Superman "Wednesday Comics" will be included in the USA Today each Wednesday. That's freaking huge.

  6. So roughly, Spidey has a twenty year shelf life. This has happened twice in a row now. So, sometime in the early 2030s (no later) I expect to see a story involving Spider-Man raping his daughter with Thor's hammer because "It's the only way to bring Unlce Ben back!"

I would buy a fucking poster of that.

  7. Please let Bucky remain as Cap though. Steve Rogers can lead the attack to counter Dark Reign and become the big boss at Shield, and then we can start to see some Buckycap/cap interaction, possibly even clashes over time. Steve needs to be something else other than Captain America for a long while, even if he dons the suit occasionally.

I love that idea. That is great.

I'm dreading this. BuckyCap is freaking great and one of my favorite Marvel characters right now. I want him to stay. Steve Rogers should've been dead a lot longer than that.

  8. I wish someone at Marvel would explain how people remember Spider-Man unmasking, but can't remember what he looked like. Or how Mephisto erased everyone's DVR.

And the VHS tapes, and the YouTube clips, and the DVD's, and the...

    ah, I give up.

It is magic, but how powerful is Mephisto? He could take down the Beyonder, if "One More Day" is any indication.

If anything, "One Day More" demonstrates that Mephisto is so bored that he's willing to toy with one of Marvel's lower-powered heroes. Maybe it's just an indicator that Marvel needs to consolidate it's Devil analogues into one demonic Super-Conglomerate that can get equal page time as opposed to Dormammu backing The Hood over here then you have Shuma-Gorath over there playing cards with Blackheart and Chthon while Belasco takes teenage girls as apprentices. Seriously, Marvel has way too many Devil's to the point where it's one big fallen angel clusterfuck. No wonder Mephisto can get away with wiping DVRs when the guy living three doors down is also a living personification of evil, you're bound not to notice that you saw Spider-Man take his mask off and then the footage is gone the next day. It's a surprise that they don't all end up on Maury with Damien Hellstorm trying to find out who's his daddy. (Yes, I know it's Satannish but that just proves the demonic super-power quota further.)

THAT... was a very impressive rant. And you make a lot of sense.

  9. Copying my thoughts from elsewhere:

"Batman and Robin #1" is pretty cool, I'll admit. But I'm such a huge Grayson fan that I'd like just about anything. I'm still not a fan of the Damien character, though. Also, I still say Frank Quietly is a horrible artist when it comes to people. His characters all tend to have the same face, and heads resembling lumpy bags of shit.

I totally missed the allusion with "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" - probably because I was too busy going "Why the fuck is the Batmobile flying?" Are we to assume that Damien at his age is more intelligent than Bruce Wayne and can build this thing all on his own? I'm not taking that leap of faith.

I might pick up another issue, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: Maybe I should have put this in General Discussion. If so, can a mod move it?

  10. I think you have to have Dick be Batman for the readers to accept him.

That photo actually raises a lot of questions for me.

    1. When the fuck does Two-Face put on that costume? That's fucking dope.

    2. Anyone catch the body in the Wayne Industries crate? What's going on there?

    3. IS that Hush with Damien? It just looks creepy.

    4. What the hell happened with Tim? He looks pretty quickly recovered from his fight with Jason Todd.

    And most importantly...

    5. Is that Alfred in SAS gear? AWESOME.

  11. Battle for the Cowl: Underground-This was a good idea gone kind of wrong. There was a need to focus on the main rogues of the Bat-verse seeing as they've been short-changed as of late but it just didn't gel for me. Catwoman is on a mission of violence, Penguin is all of a sudden Vito Corleone, Two-Face was alright and The Riddler had some good moments but it goes pear-shaped really quickly. Paolo Raimondi's unending quest to draw Danny Devito as the Penguin is so fucking distracting I just couldn't bother enjoying the book. He's an artist I'll stay away from from now on. His Two-Face looks awful too. 3/10

Finally got around to reading this. I wish I hadn't. The Danny DeVito thing was so distracting. And, though he was only shown in profile, Two-Face was drawn as Tommy Lee Jones. An artist who uses real people as reference for all characters is a hack. I spent most of the issue trying to figure out who he was trying to draw next. I'm pretty sure the splash page of Catwoman was Audrey Hepburn (though I didn't see a resemblance after that).

  12. ...Wait, I thought that BftC was coming out after August...

Never mind, just ignore me. xD

    Done. :D

As a side note to this, I love how Barbara has been drawn since her crippling. She is, to me, one of the absolute hottest characters in the DCU. I don't remember which BftC book I was reading, but it had her working out and taking a shower and stuff and it was just... great. Maybe it's the redhead freak in me, but I think it's awesome that DC has a handicapped sex symbol. It would be a shame to lose that.

  13. So, Battle for the Cowl #2? Thoughts?

Personally, I hate the fact that Jason Todd is gun-toting Batman. First, I hated him coming back anyway, so that hurts that. And the fact that he FUCKING SHOT TIM is bullshit. The art in that last panel makes it look like Tim is dead. Fuck what will actually happen - people love to shoot Batman and then have it be, like, "ah, it's just a flesh wound" - but that's what the art is showing us.

Batman has to be Dick or Tim. No other version is acceptable if it isn't Bruce. Remember what a disaster Azrael was? This is the exact same character, but with guns instead of blades. Same fucking thing. Still sucks. End rant.

  14. Did anyone here see the show Big Bang Theory last night? They had a big argument over this storyline and over who should be the new Batman.

Yeah, it was great. I love that show, and the fact that it was an accurate argument was just fantastic.

  15. I just found this thread, sorry. I fell out of touch with Earth-2 for a long time not long after it began... I'm really glad I found it again. Congrats, Yoda, and all the writers and contributors, for making this into something great.

Also, I don't remember NOT being a geek. I think it had something to do with my massive pile of comics. Yes, pile. We didn't really bag shit in the '80s.
