  1. I'm glad both mom and baby are doing well at this point. :)

I'm going up to Door County starting tomorrow night, which means the following things:

    -No tech crew

    -Lots of anime

    -Good times with people

-Time in which to finally finish that Seirei no Moribito review I've been trying to hack out for a few weeks now

    -Writing time

    -Good internet connection!

-Pretty pretty lakeshore and night skies and teh awesome

  2. I am going to murder the following people:

-The assholes in Pep Band who keep on taking the drums without asking/telling us (THEY ARE NOT YOUR DRUMS)

-The assholes in LCF who get there a half hour earlier than they say they do, which would be nice to know, are real pissy about exactly how much furniture they get and proceed to completely undo and redo our setup, and are especially pissy about not having drums, which we can't help b/c of aforementioned assholes

-My one manager who treats me like an idiot just because I have tits.

    Fuck. Them. All.

And I have to deal with even more heavy lifting/furniture rearrangement at 10:30 at night.

  3. Oh, some ones I read after coming back from a friend's party on New Year's and crashing in another friend's apartment but I never got around to posting them.

Y: The Last Man: I read all 10 TPBs in the period of the early morning. I really, really liked this series. I loved that the women could all pass the Blechdel test, I liked the way they focus on the political situation in addition to the individual situations.

...I wish I could remember more, but I was slightly drunk when I read through all of it, and it was very early in the morning.

Persepolis: I've heard so many good things about this series, and I've been thinking about trying to find the movie for a while. I paid more attention to the story than I did to the art, honestly, and it's excellent. It's nice to hear the story of those who were growing up in Iran around that time.

Read both of these. They're awesome.

    Comic Books: 0

    TPBs: 6

    Graphic Novels: 1

  4. WARNING: Very NSFW. The skit won the Inappropriate for Children award.

You do have to register to the forums in order to see it. However, it's free, and doesn't take that long.

This? Well, take Sarah Silverman's "I'm Fucking Matt Damon." Now sub Princess Peach for Sarah Silverman, Mario for Jimmy Kimmel, and King Koopa for Matt Damon.

    ...Yeah. :P

I know all three of the girls who did this. (Yes, they are all girls.) I love my friends. So much.

  5. Dibs SILK Spectre 1!

I was actually suggesting to Preston the other day that we all do a massive review of Watchmen for the upcoming movie.

I went on the college radio station today and did a dramatic reading of the scene in Watchmen where Rorschach breaks into Drieberg's apartment and eats his beans, with my best friend. We were asked to, because people are pumped for the movie and he and I are in the theatre department. It was very, very fun.

    ...

    That's fucking awesome.

  6. I don't think you'll miss anything by seeing it in 2D, actually. The way that the 3D shots are done are incorporated into how it's shot, and it's really subtle. So, it won't be glaringly obvious in 2D that this was a 3D movie.

I actually think that it's worth trying the 3D, but hey, it's up to you.

  7. So, anyone else gone to see this at all?

I read the original story by Neil Gaiman a few years ago, thought it was amazingly creepy for a kid's story. The movie lived up to the creepiness. Went to see this with the family, and my little sisters and parents, most of whom hadn't read the story, were pretty freaked out. It's a very frightening PG, with some burlesque scenes that might not be so appropriate for younger kids.

The stop motion animation for this was absolutely beautiful, in both execution and design. It was done by the director that did James and the Giant Peach and the studio he created. Anyone who does animation technique should watch this; it's exquisitely done. And the music is amazingly haunting and beautifully composed; I downloaded the soundtrack the moment we got home.

Also, the use of 3D is... actually quite well-done. It's only used to add to and emphasize the film, such as looking down a tunnel, or when something's coming towards you in the shot (which could be a needle, the Other Mother, Scottish Terriers). It's not gimmicky at all.

Definitely go and see this. So worth it.
