JackFetch
Who says there can be only one? Summit Entertainment is bringing back to the big screen the 1986 sci-fi cult hit "Highlander," with "Iron Man" co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway on board to pen the reimagining. The original "Highlander" starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings battling among humans, hunting down one another and collecting more power. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery an Egyptian and Clancy a barbarian known as the Kurgan. "There can be only one" was a line repeated throughout the film. The movie spawned four sequels and three television series. Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis/Panzer Prods. Peter Davis, one of the original producers of the 1986 film, also will produce the new film. By acquiring the rights to the property, Summit gains a recognizable brand and a franchise with worldwide popularity amonng both the young and old. Summit's president of production Erik Feig, along with the company's senior vp production Geoff Shaevitz and creative executive Gillian Bohrer, will oversee the project for the studio. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...42cdd46721ae9c0 So many remakes. Also, was there really 3 different Highlander tv shows?
Stavros
So many remakes. Also, was there really 3 different Highlander tv shows? Yup, the live action show and its spinoff, and the animated show from the 90's. Highlander could be a big name movie franchise if they do the restart properly. Cast the right people and ensure that the mythology is consistant and they could totally resurrect the concept and make it successful. JackFetch
Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter of the Twilight films, is set to work on Summit Entertainment's reboot of the Highlander franchise, Heat Vision reports. The remake, from producer Neal H. Moritz and set to be directed by Justin Lin Fast Five) was first announced in 2009, but details on the film's development have been relatively quite. The original film told the story of a race of immortals and one, Connor MacLeod who, after centuries of dueling to survive against others like him, finds himself face to face with a violent killer, determined to claim the fabled prize associated with becoming the very last survivor. The film spawned several sequels, both theatrically and made for television as well as both live-action and animated television series. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=74008#ixzz1DVy7NV5R
