  1. Going into a re-watch of Iron Man, I knew I preferred Thor: Ragnarok. So I wanted to be as fair as possible. However, Iron Man has some issues I cannot reconcile. Like Dave, I am not a fan of movies that start, then jump back to 24 / 48 / 72 hours later. Iron Man does this. To its credit, the action kicks off within five minutes. Maybe less. But the jump forward to the award ceremony is clearly where the film was intended to begin, then edited to start with the explosion. Minor thing, but it's showing it seams. Second: If The Ten Rings are working with Stane and already have a ton of Stark tech, why can't he simply give them a Jericho missile? Why do they need Stark at all? These are minor points, yeah, but they do pull me out of the movie. Conversely, there's nothing in Thor: Ragnarok that pulls me out. The opposite, actually. I'm all in on the narrative from the first shot. Iron Man is immensely fun, and a very well-crafted movie. But Thor: Ragnarok is a blast from start to finish.
  2. Though I will always have deep personal ties to the movie, my opinion on The Crow flips with each viewing. It's a strange one.
  3. Not sure the last time I saw Batman 89, so I can't say. What I will say, however, is that the comic book adaptation gave me a really appreciate for some of the movie. It trims so much fat, gets to the point, and looks amazing.
  4. Exactly. If viewed as either an updated version of Batman 66 or a sequel to it, it's a fun campy ride. My turnaround on this movie has been a complete 180.
  5. Pandy swayed me. I was on the fence before now.
  6. Ghost is great and the tech used to de-age Michelle Pfeiffer is the best use of it to date. But come on, Winter Soldier beats it for the Nick Fury car chase alone.
  7. That one took me a few nights to get through, because I would watch something first. So I kept slipping off to sleep during Dalek. Might to revisit it.
  8. I should add, two friends of mine lost their respective fathers at very young ages, and this episode resonates massively with them. So on that level I can absolutely see why it stands as a favorite for some people.
  9. Father's Day: Everybody, save for Peter, is objectively awful in this one. Rose selfishly rewrites her own history and plays it off like it's nothing; The Doctor is an absolute ass about everything, going so far as calling rose a "stupid ape"; Jackie downright hates her husband, but it might be justified; even the groom's father is telling his son to ditch the bride at the alter. It has some solid elements, but overall this one did not hold up for me.
  10. Two thoughts about The Long Game: Damn this thing looks cheap. Like, some shoddy classic episodes look better. The Nurse (Tamsin Greig) is Missy. (Oh no, A Wonky Mike Head Canon!) I'm serious. At every turn, Adam second guesses his decision to get the brain surgery, and every time he does so The Nurse pushes him into it. She even plays a little sexy / naughty nurse with him. And plays on his desire to interface with the computer terminals. It's as if she knows what he's up to. There just a real Missy vibe about it all. I kinda like to think she was messing with Adam hoping he'd pull off his little scheme to enrich himself via future knowledge, maybe so she could guide him in the past / take control as the PM in the third season?
  11. Far from Home takes way too long to get going. Once it does, I'm a smiling happy boy. But I can't pretend the first half isn't to my tastes. Captain America: The First Avenger takes a campy piece of World War II propaganda, looks it dead in the eyes and says, "Let's do this." Joe Johnston never shies away from the source material, and actually has fun with it. In these times (RE: 2003 onward), Captain America should not work as a character or movie. Yet here we are.
  12. This is the hardest one in this round for me. Endgame does so many things right, but I haven't found myself rewatching it. (Outside of certain fanboy-popping scenes, that is.) On the other hand, I've gone back to GOTGv2 more often because I can relate to the "family of your own making" themes. So, yeah, Guardians it is.
  13. The original post has been updated.
  14. Host, a 60-minute Shudder exclusive. This was fine. A decent way to spend an hour with the lights off. Shot entirely on Zoom during the lockdown, the movie sees six friends attempting to hold a seance for fun, but then shit goes horribly wrong. There's some decent acting and misdirection. My only complaints were the typical "put the camera down" elements, and the very ending. It was like, "How do we finish this? I know..." (I won't spoil it, but it was hackneyed.)
  15. All set. They'll be up there this evening.
