  1. Nope, not even in the movies. In those I think it's only Picard, Riker, and Troi.
  2. Oh, shit! Sorry for the spoiler! All I'll say is he goes on a few dates, but he's never comfortable around women he's romantically interested in. And then there's a thing that will be discussed, because it was creepy then and is triply so now.
  3. Nah, that's masturbation. Plus it's unclear how far Geordi took the simulation.
  4. Let's see, the Shag Count to date is: Yar: 1 (The Naked Now, with Data) Data: 1 (The Naked Now, with Yar) Troi: 1 (Haven, with Wyatt) Riker: 1 (Angel One, with Beata) Not counted, whatever happened on Rubicun III before the beginning of Justice. Off the top my head, I believe Geordi is the only main cast member to have a Shag Count of zero over all seven seasons.
  5. Daredevil on the MCU tournament finals:
  6. The original post has been updated. The finals open tomorrow!
  7. Unfortunately I was not able to make the time to rewatch all three films in this bracket, but I with a lot of thought and skimming through clips, I have to give to Cap. It's just a pure, wonderful movie with a classic sensibility about it. The others are great; GOTG literally changes the direction of the MCU and T:R speaks to me in a way that I cannot express, but Cap is just majestic.
  8. At what point does the original A Nightmare on Elm Street become a dream? I'm thinking it's at one of two points: When Nancy falls asleep at Tina's house, specifically the moment when the cross falls off the wall and Nancy sets it aside When Nancy gets the sleep study I'm prone to go with the former for a multitude of reasons, but here are a few from early in the movie. Just before the cross drops, Tina and Rod are talking in bed. When he rolls over, the blanket he covers himself with is red and green -- like a certain sweater. (Admittedly, it could possibly be red and blue. I'm deutan color-blind, so green is a hard one for me.) After Nancy sets the cross down, we cut to an unsettling shot of the house. Before now the house looked nice. Tina is "awoken" by some noises, including rocks hitting the window and someone (Freddy) whispering her name. Then we have the amazing shot of Freddy pushing through the wall, hovering over the sleeping Nancy like a ghoul. Though Nancy stirs and places the cross back on the wall, I believe we're still in her dream because Freddy is slowly demonstrating that he can make them believe he can enter reality. Next, Tina's murder. There's a difference between Tina's nightgown being ripped (which can be explained by her clawing at it during her initial nightmare) and Freddy flinging her body all over the room as he murders her. Wes Craven has stated that the original idea for the ending of the movie was for Nancy to defeat Freddy, then awaken to realize the whole movie was a dream. (I'm guessing she would have woken up in Tina's room with the cross still set on the end table.) But a producer forced Craven to go with the nightmarish ending we got. So it isn't so much so "was the movie a dream" but rather when it entered the dream realm. What say you?
  9. I hear ya. What I would like to see is twofold: People already with Disney+ accounts are credited back a one-month fee for renting theatrical movies. (One time per month.) People can rent the movies without being Disney+ subscribers. But that's all they can see.
  10. Oops, I closed the Black Panther / Winter Soldier / Endgame poll a day too soon. It's back open, though I'm not sure it will change the vote.
  11. Overall, I don't believe so. Though I will say, when I saw Blank Panther in a packed cinema, the audience burst into laughter at the falling / punching scene. So it was clear then there was some wonkiness with the singular moment. That's the only reason I mentioned it. Beyond that exceptionally minor gripe, Panther has some amazing themes, subtext, action, acting, pacing, drama, characters, scoring, CGI. Everything. I mean, Killmonger is maybe Marvel's only sympathetic villain? (Zemo is possibly justified, but he's not as charismatic and compelling as Killmonger.)

    DC Purge

My very limited understanding is that DC has a better capacity for original graphic novels than Marvel, which may or may not be a product of Vertigo's legacy. If DC can survive this as a monthly publisher of comic books -- and I think they can -- they may have to look at that model for some B-minus or C-level characters who can almost support monthly books. This said, I do know the OGN model is exceptionally difficult to support in the superhero genre, which has been monthly for nearly a century. Superhero comic book fans have been tailored to expect a new issue every four weeks or so. Asking them to wait four / five / six month at a time for a continuing story from one creative team would be an unimaginable diametric shift. But we might be seeing that come to pass soon.

Man, fuck these asshats who are dancing with joy over this. Fuck them. Peoples' lives are being irrevocably upset, and some fools want to dance all over this? Nuh-uh. They can fuck the fuckity fuck off with that shit.
  14. The right side of that bracket is super interesting. Every single one of those has a legit case to make the finals. If it comes down to Winter Soldier and Ragnarok, I will be doing complete rewatches of both before I vote. Hell, I might rewatch everything on that side to be sure.

Jesus, looks like Bobbie Chase too. According to Variety, Warner is cutting roughly 800 people: Warner Bros. is expected to commence layoffs of around 650 people starting Monday, according to people familiar with the matter, while HBO is seen shedding between 150 and 175 staffers. A WarnerMedia spokesman declined to comment.

    DC Purge

Pinch of salt, but I'm reading editors Bob Harras, Mark Doyle, Andy Khouri, and Brian Cunningham have been laid off. Jim Lee has been removed as publisher, but is still employed.

Artist Pete Woods has pretty much confirmed it too. No names yet, though.
  18. Endgame is such an amazing closure to the MCU. If they never made another Marvel movie after it, I would be totally fine with that. And as fun and emotional and grand as it is, it doesn't entirely work on its own. At the very least you needed to have seen Infinity War to understand why the world is where it is. That's a big problem if we're looking at it as a singular entity. On the other hand, while Winter Soldier is the second Captain America movie, all one needs to know is that Steve had a friend named Bucky who seemingly died. That's it. The movie explains all of that, then gets on with itself to easily become a Top Three MCU movie for me. Panther, though, is inspired. Its only fault is the exceptionally janky CGI punching as T'Challa and Killmonger fall during the final battle. Man, I'm gonna go Winter Soldier, but this is a lot harder than I had thought.
  19. Still slowly making my through The Adventures of Superman. In "The Secret of Superman," why did they have to fake Clark's termination from the paper? The thugs had already gone after Jimmy and Perry, and the police knew Lois and Clark were next on the list. So why the deception?
