  1. Alright, so I was skimming through the board. Trying to come up with a topic to bring up or just something to do for this site. I came from looking at the top ten people who have posted on this forum when I noticed something.

Most users ever online was 71 on Jul 6 2006, 06:48 AM

Wait, what? I remember when we had about ten or twenty people who visited this site at the same time. But over seventy?? What happened on that day for so many people to have jumped on like that?

Yeah, it's a pretty meaningless question. But I'm curious what brought everyone here that day.

  2. Nintendo Reveals Virtual Console Christmas Surprise

Nintendo gives us all the gift that keeps on giving: Mario.

    by Micah Seff

December 21, 2006 - While not exactly the free Christmas gift that many were hoping for, Nintendo did see fit to spread some holiday cheer today with the announcement that several new Virtual Console games would be made available on Christmas Day. Wii owners with access to a high-speed Internet connection will soon be able to download even more retro-gaming goodness direct from Nintendo.

On Christmas morning, Wii owners will be treated to a surprise visit from Mario himself in the form of Super Mario Bros. for the NES, which can be downloaded for a mere 500 Wii Points. If Mario is not your thing -- although that would make owning a Wii pretty strange -- then there are plenty of other ways to sate your thirst for classic gaming on the Wii. Street Fighter II from the SNES is also slapping its way onto Nintendo's download service for 800 Wii Points. Players looking to vent their Christmas morning frustrations on the legions of the undead can do so with Super Castlevania IV, going for 800 Wii Points. Satisfying the desires of every child of the 90s, SEGA has saw fit to offer up the much-beloved Genesis title, ToeJam & Earl for 800 Wii Points. Finally, R-Type for the TurboGrafx-16 makes its return for 800 Wii Points.

This is the last Virtual Console Monday of 2006. Good thing Nintendo decided to give us all a present in the form of some of our favorite games ever.

I think I own the Castlevania game, but it's nice to see their not just releasing Nintendo games from the SNES days.

  3. Meh, I don't drive, so I don't have to worry about paying car insurance or anything in that area. I also save up to buy some of these games and split rent/utilites so that I'm not spending a huge amount. So really, I do have money to burn. And as Yoda said, some these games were gifts from family/friends.

But yeah, some people do own a lot of games around here. And I'm definitely one of those people.

  4. Meh, whatever. I already own a DS and am not about to spend money just so I can have one with larger screens. If people want to do that, more power to them. But I don't have the money to throw around like that.

And yeah, as much as I love Nintendo. I hate that they keep doing this.

  5. I'd like to see some games that don't rely on the gimmicky touch screen so much. I don't always feel like scribbling the stylus around.

I agree. Game-makers too often feel the need to use all of a system instead of just what they need to make a good game. I blame reviewers for this partially. How often do reviews take off points for games that (are good games but) don't use the full touch screen capabilities? It seems like a common point made by all reviewers that fit that build of DS games

I HATE that. I don't mind the design at times because it does bring unique concepts like with Kirby Canvas Curse, which was a really great game. But I can't stand people bitching about how the touch screen isn't put to use at all times. The design is there for people who want to use it, it's not mandatory for you to use it. In some cases, it actually makes some great games bad, such as Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and it's stupid seal drawing to put away a enemy. I absolutely loved that game, but fucking hated having to draw a shitty seal just so I can move on to the next area. If you want to make things more difficult, make the boss harder. This makes me want to build my levels higher and work harder so I can finally beat him. The seals made me want to return the game when I first started dealing with them.

As for what games I'd like to see? An old school Metroid game. My Castlevania fix is being quenched and I have a Mega Man game. They all did fine, so why not give Samus another run in 2D?

  6. Nintendo Sued for Patent Infringement

The Wiimote may not be as unique as we thought.

    by Micah Seff

December 8, 2006 - In a surprising turn of events, Nintendo is already the target of litigious action concerning its newly released Wii console. California-based Interlink electronics has filed a complaint against Nintendo for what it has deemed to be a case of copyright infringement over the pointing functionalities of the Wiimote.

Gaming blog Kotaku has obtained a court filing, issued by the US District Court of Delaware, which accuses Nintendo of infringing on a patent filed previously by Interlink Electronics. The court filing claims that Interlink Electronics has suffered "loss of reasonable royalties, reduced sales and/or lost profits as a result of the infringing activities of" Nintendo.

The claim refers to a patent filed in February, 2005 which refers to a device titled "Trigger Operated Electronic Device." The patent describes the advice as a "trigger operated device in the nature of a pointing device for use with an electronic system such as a computer." The patent continues to describe a device which, on the surface, sounds an awful like the Wii's controller.

The complaint demands that Nintendo be enjoined and restrained from further infringing on the patent, presumably by taking the Wii off the market. Furthermore, the filing demands that the court order Nintendo to pay Interlink three times the assessed damages, including prejudgment interests and attorney fees. Additionally, the plaintiff is demanding a jury trial of any and all issues pertaining to the case.

  7. Has there ever be this huge of a world wide release of a system than with the Wii? Seriously, everytime I look up IGN I see a new place where the Wii has been released. So far I believe Japan, Austrailia, Canada and Europe have all had a Wii released to their land, on top of the States getting it.

  8. A computer is the machine you are typing on.

    Alright, let's try this again.

"I was referring to the games that were being released. I know what roms are and use to play them before having to clear my old computer"

    Better, Jimberg?

  9. Roms mean you don't have to spend ten bucks on a game you can get on your PC for free. But fine.

I was referring to the games that were being released. I know what roms are and use to play them before having to clear my computer

  10. I've entered all of the codes listed thus far... now what?

From what I can understand, you can now send messages, trade Mii's and things of that nature over to other people. Plus play Online games with them once Nintendo finally starts making them. That's about all I know you can do with them.

  11. Can someone tell me why the PSP is supposedly so bad? I haven't played on one for about 18 months, but I loved it when I did, so I'm legitimately curious about what has happened to make it flop?

I've always wondered that too. The latest sales figures put the PSP 4 million units behind the DS in worldwide sales, which isn't that bad. I think we all can agree that the DS is the current leader in the handheld market, but the PSP is far from a flop or failure that most people peg it to be.

Where did you get that information? I find it hard to believe the DS is only beating the PSP by four million units.

  12. two GTA games you will be able to purchase on the PS2 in the not too distant future.

Liberty City Stories is already out for the PS2, but I've read several reports saying that Vice City Stories will not be ported. Supposedly, Rockstar needs all hands on deck for GTA4.

Ehhhh. Okay, so it has one exclusive GTA game. Guess that's something the PSP has.

  13. As I've said, I've never heard of any games that are really considered to be that great. I wasn't one of the people to jump on the it's a total failure band wagon, but the system just hasn't delievered in terms of top selling video games as it's console brother has. Currently the best games I can name off the top of my head are a puzzle game, it's sequel and two GTA games you will be able to purchase on the PS2 in the not too distant future. There might be others, but I can't name off anything. Sony just hasn't wowed anybody with their system since it launched and their sales have been mostly lack luster.

Maybe Sony just has too much to live up to with it's dominance over the console market, I actually expected a bigger fight to be thrown by Sony in the handheld market. They do have some critically acclaimed games, but nothing that really stands out as a system selling game. There's nothing about the PSP that seperates them from the it's console brother besides the MP3 features and purchasing mini dvd movies. Maybe they will at some point, but it's getting to a crucial point where the handheld needs to start doing something drastic before it joins the other hand held systems in their failed attempts to take over that martket from Nintendo.
