  1. Gravity Falls: Finally got around to really watching this. I regret not having started sooner. I'm almost through season 1 and it is such a fun show with an actual mystery arc going on. Between this, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I believe we are living in a new golden age of Children's animation. Just go ahead and try the show. You will not regret it one single bit.

So, WIll and Matt are showing me Gravity Falls tonight. This just happened:

    No context for you.

I love the female voices on Gravity falls Kirsten Schaal and Linda Cardellini just seem to be made for their roles.

  2. Let me preface this by saying I've already listened to the first hour, so I've already head the spot-on Ramones rant.

That said, and I shit you not, as I was posting this episode on the site, a Ramones-shirt-wearing 20-year-old woman came into my work. The irony of the situation nearly made me crack up.

Wow! that is funny. I remember when I first went from private school to public school, and my biggest shock went from seeing only uniforms to people wearing advertisements on their torsos.

  3. I never watched wrestling but I found this episode fun to listen to. After getting help on understanding what a "babyface" and "heel" is I noticed a different genre of show that uses the same formula, court tv.

Whenever I walk in on my aunt watching "Caso Cerrado" it takes me a second to figure out who is the face and heel. Usually its the lady who is the face, and the heel is a man who is dressed as a gangster. Once in a while, the woman is the heel and is dressed like a stripper or lady of the night. Usually, whoever has more tattoos is the heel.

I have heard stories about underprivileged people making poor choices on what to wear at court, but you'd think they would give thought into it if appearing on television, which is most likely being watched by their grandmothers. I mentioned it at the dinner table once. My parents told me that people are just that dumb, but my brother in law told me that my theory makes more sense.

Can you recommend any entertaining wrestling matches?

  4. I believe in the original script of "Gojira" Dr. Serizawa (Dr. Nick Fury) originally was meant to wear all black, only appear at night and live in abandoned houses. I am glad that they decided to tone him down to just an eyepatch. We have enough vampires in movies already. Although I do find that having the Godzilla world be fantastical, makes you care about the damage less. Because you can make an argument claiming that everyone abandoned the city instantly and that with the push of a button the buildings will come back together.

Mr. Plinkett once made the Citizen Kane Tommy Wisseau connection. Way to explain the origin of the clapping meme!

  5. I want to share it with you guys a story that spoke to me personally, that doesn't seem to have any impact on others. I would like to know if anyone else had a story that spoke to them like that. My story would be Rappaccini's Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Considered by many scholars to be one of the earliest SF stories. Rappaccinis daughter follows the story of a medical man Giacomo Rappaccini who has a garden of poison plants. His daughter ,Beatrice, tends the plants and develops a resistance to the poison. However she herself becomes poisonous. I could go on and talk about the man who falls in love with her and the tragedy that he brings, but the beginning is the part that spoke to me.

As long as I can remember, I have struggled with mild depression. Psychoanalysis and psychological sessions have pointed to a feeling of guilt. So I felt a connection to Beatrice. When I first read the story I thought she was like Poison Ivy from Batman. But then I realized that Beatrice, unlike Pamela is not a terrorist, she does not want to terrify, or bully people. She stays in her garden because its only there where she does not find herself dangerous. Everyone else just seems to read it and snicker about how flawed early evolution ideas were.

What book, or story, had a profound effect on you but seemingly nobody else?

  6. That was actually my first exposure to Godzilla, which was tied with Fantastic four for my favorite show. When the Emmerich movie came out I thought they made a dramatic improvement on the roar. Little did I know that was the actual roar and having Lurch slobber over the microphone was the change.

As for Godzuki, everyone denies his existence. My dad watched an episode or two and whenever he sees Minya he calls it Godzillita (Spanish for little godzilla). Godzuki is able to collectively disgust people in a way that not even French Godzilla (aka Mr. Merde) cannot.

or even Mr. Merde goes to Paris.
