  1. Anyone who reads anything I write knows I use "awesome" more often than I use "the".

One of my big conversational crutches is "I dunno." That's Danspeak for either "I'm finished with this topic and am ready to move onto another" or "I can't think of anything else to say and am ready to end this conversation altogether."

I also make ample use of the New England "Ayuh."

  2. There are a couple of girls sitting a few rows behnd me, arguing vociferously about which of them has prettier feet. It's getting quite heated.

I sometimes think that I work in this reality's strangest office.

  3. Jack Kirby was the man throughout his career, but this run of FF was just nine years of solid brilliance, both from himself and from Stan. They brought each other to another level and clearly loved working on this book. I have much to thank GIT Corp for; I can finally read all of these issues in one sitting.

Des, this is a great series.

  4. You know what I heard? That Scooby-Doo is one of the dumbest cartoons ever and Underdog is a classic.

    I concur, personally.

Yeah... I'm not seeing where the breakdown in logic occurs here, top be honest. Underdog = Awesome. It's a proven statement of fact.

  5. That's awesome.

Hope any increased exposure doesn't lead to me getting death threats from Howard Chaykin, though...

Oh, shit, yeah. Dude'll be on your front steps waiting for you when you get home tomorrow.

Oh, crap! Warren Ellis! Noooooooooo!

    Don't worry, Dan.

He's crippled, a smoker and probably drunk. You can outrun him.

A, I have difficulty outrunning people who are sleeping. In shape? Not so much.

B, I'm pretty certain that if Warren Ellis put his mind to it, he could destroy me with but a thought.

  6. The "They had those back then?" advertisement

Oh, yeah! Robert Bell, with the picture of Thor with the huge "B" on his hat! Jeez, that takes me back. (Not that I was around in the 60s, but those ads ran well into the 80s.)

  7. If I had the power to change the world, if I could change just ONE THING on this globe of water and dirt we in inhabit, I wouldn't solve world hunger, make peace in the middle east, or kill that guy that keeps casting Jessica Alba in movies.

No, I would get rid of internet memes forever.

But then where would we get our lolcats?

  8. I do know that Alex The Kid is considered the very first Sega mascot

This is a common fallacy. Despite the prominance of the character in the early days of the Master System, he was never considered an official mascot by Sega. That honor went to a character by the name of Opa Opa from the game Fantasy Zone. Then, of course, it became Sonic shortly after.

Your right, Opa Opa and Alex Kidd have a game in common, but Opa Opa was considered the mascot. It's just because Alex Kidd had more games I guess is why there was that mistake. Both games I never played, I would like too, but the old GameStop, EB Games shops don't sell "Old School" Games anymore :(

Did you try eBay? Or even Amazon; sites like those will usually turn something up.

Not if you don't have a credit card...

Hmm. Yes, I can see where that might be a problem.

  10. I didn't mention anything due to spoiling things, but the same thoughts occurred to me when I reviewed the issue. Bendis and Mack didn't seem like sloppy enough storytellers for the "deaf person hearing things when her back is turned" mistake to be made so many times.

    It's definitely an interesting theory.

  11. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this game sucked.

    "What's wrong with it?"

    "Oh, it sucks."

"Yes, but... what's wrong with it?"

    "Everything. It's a sucky game."

"I get that. What about it sucks?"

    "The game sucks."

And so on. I really enjoy reading your reviews, DW; there are people who do this for a living that can't articulate their thoughts as well as you do. Another really well done article.
