  1. From Preacher: 'I'll have the chicken Salad...hold the chicken'. 'Hold the chicken?' 'There's nothing else I can eat. I'm vegetarian' 'You're vegetarian? Hey, I know this brilliant recipe for quiche! What you do, right, is you get the quiche, right, and then you throw the stupid fucking thing out of the window, and cook yourself a steak like any normal person.'
  2. No, general, until we get a general thread.
  3. We could play all soughts of neat games there. "I'm thinking of a Comic Book series", "Guess that Character", "Comic Book Train" and "One of these Characters just doesn't belong here." And 'SnakeRun'.
  4. I wish I grew up in Australia too. Sounds fun. What did you do on rainy days when you couldn't go outside and play 'Snakerun'? In the UK, we played video games.
  5. Correct. Well done for saying it so well.
  6. And possibly a general discussion forum / general comics.
  7. Let's start it mucky, eh? Name the only comic book out there, that is written by a major name in the business, to have actual sexual penetration in its pages?
  8. Let's get ranty, shall we? One of the best, most original, and darkest comics going (HellBlazer) will be released in its cinema form soon. The part of John Constantine, a rake at the gates of hell, a middleaged scouser (liverpudlian/thief), a right bastard but a nice guy, will be played by Keanu Reeves. Yes. It'll be played by Theodore Logan esq. Please, write your reactions to this. Do you think it won't suck? Or are you right?
  9. Except for the shitty costume and powers.
  10. Post your favourite quotes in here. Transmetropolitan. Spider Jerusalem (while repeatedly hitting someone in the face with a chair leg): This is the chairleg of truth, Fred! Can you hear it? It says 'Shut up', Fred! Can you hear it? Fred: I don't know anything, I swear it's the truth! Spider (continuing to pummel him): Do not offend the chairleg of truth. It is wise and terrible.
  11. Unfortunately for energy superman, he was around for some seriously shitty stories. Normal Superman has been around for some good ones by virtue of being around for sixty years.
  12. Simple answer. Superman won't kill. Wolverine will happily decapitate. Superman go bye-bye.
  13. I learnt this from the latest Comics International. Basically, a comic shop in california won a lawsuit because Marvel didn't make some of it's comics returnable (as in, it doesn't sell, the comic shops don't lose money), and shipped it later than they said they would. I'll point out here that it was Marvel that made these contracts in the first place, and Marvel that messed up. Basically, through not fulfilling it's contract, it pissed off its customers, who (naturally) blamed the places they wanted to buy it. The shops sued, and they won.
  14. Alan Moore, for the unenlightened, is possibly the greatest comic writer in history. The worst complaint that's been sent his way is that he's sometimes TOO intellectual. If you haven't read these three, do so. Watchmen - The best comic book series ever. Written the same year as The Dark Knight Returns, it's so superior, it's not true. Possibly the most important comic of the last twenty years. From Hell - It's the size of a phone book. It's a deconstruction of Jack The Ripper and the events surrounding it. It's stunning. Expect me to talk more about this at a later point. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Ignore the movie. You probably thought it was a good concept, but crap film. Now, imagine that concept done better than you could think. That's how much fun this is.

    Y-The Last Man

Of all the Vertigo titles on the go at the moment, I'd have to say that Y-The last man is probably the one most deserving of it's MR tag. If you don't read YTLM, it's a simple concept - all the men on earth have died except one guy and his monkey. The latest storyline, 'Safeword' has dealt with S&M in a very well done way. Unlike Garth Ennis overly humourising the element, he actually tied it into a storyline which has advanced the plot in a surprising way, while at the same time being faithful to Dom/sub scenario without making it seem too over the top - althoughthe last page of the first issue was something of a shock. Do you like the series? What are your thoughts on it?
  16. Yeah, Monkey-fucking episode was a bit weird...but once it started tying together, it's gotten awesome. It goes up to a few years back, and explains how Christian lost his powers and became a cop.
  17. They're relaunching Powers soon - does anyone know any details about how different it's going to be? I know they're going to have all superhero's illegal, but anything else?
  18. I've only recently gotten into his Daredevil run, but I've been reading most of his stuff since Jinx. Powers, incidentally, is Godly.
  19. Personally, I'm okay with allowing webstuff in here - but perhaps that should be in indies? I'll let Yoda make that call. If it is, I recommend www.PvPonline.com.
  20. Favourite issue - Difficult to pick just one. Favourite one off - Ramadan. Beautiful, beautiful issue. Favourite one that's part of a thread that's picked up again - Midsummer Nights Dream. Favourite storyarc - Seasons of Mists. Favourite Character - Other than Dream himself, probably Desire. I would love to see a Desire miniseries. Favourite non-endless character - Lucifer. Favourite Graphic Novel - The Kindly Ones. Because I have a signed copy. Oh, and if you haven't read 'Endless Nights' yet, it is awesome. Seriously, seriously good.
  21. I've never heard of it, so probably. What is it?
  22. My favourites are ones that my girlfriend has gotten me into. She mainly reads indy stuff, and there's some excellent stuff there. Gloomcookie - surreal, and well written. Courtney Crumrin - funny little series. Blue Monday - funniest comic I've read in years. What's your favourite undiscovered gem?

    1602

Yes it is, actually. The artwork is done by the 'Origin' team, so it looks gorgeous. The dialogue is as good as I'd expect from Gaiman, and there's some really nice moments. I'm just....I was expecting something bigger. Something bigger in scope than it actually is. It's a very well written series, don't get me wrong, and i'd recommend it to anyone.
  24. I figured this should be the first topic. The C64 was the best home computer at the time. Fantastic games, decent graphics, and a little thing called COLOUR. The spectrum, meanwhile was shite.

Just read issue seven, and while I really like it....it just feels like Gaiman-lite. I'm really hoping that the conclusion will blow my socks off, but I'm not sure it will. Maybe I was just expecting too much?
