  1. Doug, seriously, if Apple's not paying you, I'll be shocked.

    I wish.

And how much extra do most of those services cost? FB/YT/Safari excepted, you have to pay for all of those other apps, or the content on 'em.

And all this can be yours, if you sell your soul to Apple!

Will already has a netflix account and there are freebies for the book app's I mentioned, silly Hannah! :)

  2. I'm really pissed that the new Nanos don't play video. They are trying to force people to buy the Touch and Classic, which costs a lot more.

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm kinda angry about losing my iPod. It's a fourth generation Nano so it could play videos. It was good for what I had it for which was to play music and the occasional tv show episode I bought off of iTunes. What I'm probably going to do is, assuming it works alright, buy my friend's fourth gen off of her and then just put a bit of money aside for a few months and get a 16 gig Touch unless apple announces a new gen Nano that doesn't suck by then.

Hey man, There is no 16, it goes straight to 32. You should seriously consider getting one, and this is why:

Portable Skype/AIM- With the built in VGA camera, you are no longer confined to your desk to talk with your friends.

Mail/Facebook/Youtube- Sometimes when your laying in bed, you just want a quick and easy way to check on every thing.

Safari- Internet in your hand, that's much better than your blackberry's.

Retina Display/Movies/Netflix- Movies and TV shows look AWESOME on the new iPod touch, and the screen is actually big enough that you won't miss any important details.

Games/Game Center- Its a poor mans version of an X-box and X-box live, except minus the 50 dollar a month fee.

Forward Facing Camera- Much better quality than your blackberry, and easier to send to your computer or facebook.

iTunes- Download your E-2 Pod-casts on the go!

iBooks/Kindle/Nook Apps- I downloaded the kite runner and was able to read it with no problem. Plus it comes with a Winnie the Pooh!

And that my friend is why you should gen an iPod touch.

I hated the new nano's also until I used one in person, it has a neat novelty. I still would not buy one though.

  3. If my entire iPod situation turns out bad, i have enough set aside where I can afford to get a new iPod. Now my question. Has anyone ever bought a refurbished iPod from the Apple Store or anything and can I get some advice on wether I should buy brand new or save a few books by buying the older refurbished model? I very rarely ever came close to using up the whole 8 GBs on my old iPod so I'm not worried about things like capacity. I only ever used it for music and podcasts and only ever put movies on when I went on long trips. So yeah, any advice would be appreciated.

Honestly, But it new. It's your hard earned cash, so get something worthwhile. I remember I used to think my 4 gigs was enough, untill I got 8, and then 16, and so on. Go ahead and go up a gig model, you never no! If your willing to wait and save, the iPod touch is a terrific buy! One could relate it to an old Atari System: Big initial fee, but handfuls of cheap ass games. Later on I'll post my entire list on why you should get an iTouch, but I need food right now.

  4. Oz Biggest Phone Companies 'How to Guide' for tethering

Oz 3rd Biggest companies 'How to Guide' for tethering (who I'm with)

Why hasn't it been support in the US. As in what's the reason given by Apple or the phone companies

Until this year, AT&T was the only carrier avaible for the iPhone, and it honestly could not handle the data over load that would cause. Infact, because of the high density of iPhone's in New York, AT&T stopped selling phones in that area (Not sure if this is still true or not).

I understand the OS needs disk space, but Windows doesn't ask for 100% of my computers HDD and then dictates how I add files to it. Why not, when I first plug the phone in to the computer, doesn't itunes ask me if I want to segment a portion of the storage as a USB drive. Android handles the option, so why can't the iPhone. It's the one fits everyone approach that annoys me. Like I said a few days ago, with computers, faster, smaller (physical size), bigger (storage) aren't company specific, it's industry standard.

Honestly you should be able to, but Apple it touchy about it for what ever reason. That fact you can't see the file system is ridiculous.

  5. Of course it's a supported feature, it's an 'enable' option in the network settings. I'm in Australia, tethering has been officially supported by both Apple and our main 3 phone carriers since the end of 2009 I think. And it's still supported on the iPhone 4, it's not for the 3GS with the latest iOS. But they don't give you a warning like "upgrading to the latest OS on your device will disable some features" do they.

Honestly I can not comment on this, because I do not know about tethering in other countries. I just know it was never a supported feature unless your iPhone was hacked in some shape or form in the united states.

Doug I agree they sparked the smart phone craze, realising that making calls isn't that important, having a portable web browser of much much more importance to the users. I don't think they've done anything special with regards to the phone to computer experience. If anything their features have gotten worse since the iPhone introduction. I used to be able to use my iPod as a USB drive, I can't do that with my iPhone (unless jailbroken), as just 1 example.

I disagree with your comment about the computer integration. In my experience, iTunes is the easiest way to transfer your purchased media, photos, mail, contacts, calenders and applications to a cellular device. Instead of having to do a manual transfer, or multiple apps, it is all in one place. The reason an iPhone can not be a USB drive is because of its software. Because you can download applications, and delete media from the phone itself, it needs complete control over its file system. A flaw? Yes, but I understand it. The features have greatly improved! Faster processor, more storage and camera quality are very important features.

You could be right, in that the experience is better with a Mac OS and not a Windows one.

Neither is better than the other. I prefer Mac OS X because I do alot with media, and my job is built on Mac Software. Windows operating system has many values, such as being more compatible with software and USB devices, and because of that I will always have VMWare Fusion installed on my Mac.

  6. Apple can go fuck themselves. I can't wait to rid myself of every iteration of their existence from my IT life.

My business partner upgraded his phone iOS to the latest, only for that new OS to disable internet tethering on his 3GS. No warning this would happen, no reason, nothing. I get it, as a business they have developed a culture of lemmings based consumers who just assume that everything Apple does is automatically the best way to do things. But to anyone who actually likes to think for themselves, the whole Apple experience is just one massive head fuck.

    >.< It wasn't a supported feature. I strongly disagree with your statements about the Apple experience, but respect them. Mac OS X is amazing, and is no where near as constrained as iOS 4.0(-.3). I admit that compared to 2007, iOS is no longer amazing, but instead very stale. It does need more features, but I don't think its anywhere near the massive head fuck you mentioned. Apple made it very easy to make your mobile phone live between you and your computer and in my opinion really helped to spark the smartphone craze of today.

  7. Fuck Apple. I can't wait to switch phones. I updated itunes on my system, plug in my iphone and it deletes a whole heaps of podcasts off my phone, that I had downloaded on my phone. Not paid ones, free podcasts. Why the fuck does it think it's "helping" me out by removing them. I'm sick to fucking death of how Apple keeps trying to "help" me, which is just control.

They ask you weather or not you want to transfer purchases, you probably clicked no. And if you clicked yes, they are most likely not selected to be synced.

  8. Hey Guys, does anyone remember a spider-man comic that was done in the style of Calvin and Hoobes? It was about this little kid who would use his imagination to pretend he was spider man (Red shirt was hit suit, Black sweater was the alien symbiote, jump rope was his web), and he also had a "girl friend" who reminded me of Suzie. Does anybody else remember this? And if so, what was it called?

  9. Thank you to every one who said happy birthday! It means alot. And a big thank you to Will for making the thread for me.

For anyone interested in the swag I got:

    Magsafe Laptop Charger

Mini DVI to VGA video adapter

    iPod speaker

$105 bucks from various checks and what not.

Batman Beyond- The entire season (Which I returned for 90 bucks, just didnt feel the need for it).

    iPod touch screen protecters

Lego Batman Wii game. (Not sure why I got this, I'm not a gamer. I'm probably just going to give it to my little brother).

With all the cash I ended up buying the new 4G iPod touch 64gb. It. is. AWESOME.

  10. Late 2009/Early 2010 I had gotten pretty good into a gym habit, I had a personal trainer to help me get started and everything was cool. The personal trainer quit however, and I started to lose the habit. I'm getting back into it, taking lots of walks and such to get ready to go back to the gym. But I have yet to get my driver's license, so I'm SOL on that for now.

Shaun, if you really want to get into shape shape, join a sport. If your worried about loosing weight, go with wrestling, if you want to be fast, do football, and if you want to just be in shape do Track and Field.

  11. My personal project right now is to build a hackintosh. First I'm going to install Mac OS X on my old desktop to see how the process goes, and if it all works well I'm going to build another one with the following specs:

LITE-ON 24X DVD Writer Black SATA Model iHAS424-98 LightScribe Support

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

PNY VCG98GTEE1XPB GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL8T-6GBRM

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

    Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B CPU Cooler

The motherboard is configured to run with an i7 chip, but being very stupid, I can not tell if it comes with the chip or not. Assuming that it does, a i7 chip, 6 GB's of Ram and a 1 TB hard drive running Mac OS for $560? That's awesome.
