  1. Holy. Crap. My best friend just sent me a pic of what hes accomplished over the summer. He's gotten freakin ripped. This has motivated to finaly gain the body I want. I want to take my shirt off at the beach and be confident.

  2. Message to all fellow Mac Users, If you would like a script that lets you create a command to lock your computer (But not log your account out), Send me a PM with your email. The command is CMD-Shift-L .

  3. I could deal with a new iPod announcement. I likely won't buy one 'cause I've got an iPhone and plan on upgrading it to a 4 pretty soon, but hey, it'd be cool.

I might get one, It depends if the camera is the only new feature or not.

  4. Has anyone every seen a different way to store files/folders other than the standard

    c:\

    --|_folder

    -----|_sub folder

    --------|_ file

    --|_folder 2

    etc?

I'm thinking something that is more like a flow chart, where sub folders can be linked to more than 1 main folder? I don't care if it uses the standard windows/mac backend, but is there a front end 'explorer' I can use to fundamentally change how I access and store my files?

Nope, That's pretty much how Windows and Mac OS X roll.

  5. I'll tell the drive-by and McDonald's fight story a little later. Right now I have to get ready for the gym. I need to keep myself fit enough to punch criminals in the face. I'm Batman.

    POTD!

First of all, He's the god damn batman. And second of all, I already outed him. There seems to be recurring theme of Mike=Batman on the boards.

  6. I've got three fairly obvious stickers on my Mac, so I should be good.

And okay, sleep mode, can do. I can probably just shut it off once I'm through security.

Yeah, I think that people in line are gonna hate me, I'm going abroad for four months.

They twitchy about any other kinds of electronics? My external hard drive is probably going to be in my carry-on, along with my camera/iPod/iPhone/flashdrive in the laptop bag.

Just our computer, everything else can stay in your bag. Everything has to be taken out of your pockets though. Well, everything metal that is.

  7. And now, more fun dealing with TSA questions, bought to you by travelling abroad for four months!

-If I'm bringing a laptop in a laptop bag, but putting books and other electronics/miscellaneous documents/etc in there, will that be okay, or would they prefer just the laptop be in the bag?

-If I'm bringing four month's worth of a pill medication, should I declare it in the security line?

When you go through security you have to take out your laptop and put it in a separate bin to be scanned. So no, It doesn't matter what is in the bag.

No, Just put it in a zip lock baggie and you'll be fine. Just an FYI, all liquids must be less than 4 ounces, and be put in a plastic zip lock baggie.

  8. Okay, fellow iPhoners. I just got an iPhone 3GS (yay for previous gens being hella cheap!). Futzing around with the alarm, and would like to know in advance, is there a way I could access the Alarm playlist I have on iTunes for it?

Noperz Hannah, you can not do that with the built in alarm. I would suggest looking around for a cheap app. When I go out of town I use an app called Alarm Clock Pro, and put it on a stand before I go to bed. I am not sure if that app can run in the back ground, So look at the lite version first. Dont be afraid to search the app store's top 25, or the most popular in the Utilities category, You never know what useful thing you will find.

  9. It was someone's last day at work today and her request was that we all had our faces painted by one of the team. As I have to use public transport to get to work and didn't want to spend ages removing the facepaint at the end of the day, I asked for only half my face being painted.

    The result:

Mike move out of the way, I have a new hero from the internet.

  10. My sister is heading stateside in October and wanted to catch a college football game. She'll be in Boston, NYC and Chicago and was wondering how easy the tickets are to get for these. She expressed some interest in an Ivy League game (I'm sure it's a Gossip Girl influence, haha). Can anyone assist with where the tickets are best purchased?

Well, remember that most football games are on Saturdays so first step would be for her to check their online schedule. Also, I know with Ohio State games, certain ones will be sold out months in advance (The OSU/Michigan game is insane to get tickets to) so if the website doesn't sell tickets there, try calling the box office. If push comes to shove, she can find scalpers outside of the game also though that will cost a bit.

Ok, you've assumed way too much there already. Didn't know they were mainly Saturdays. What is the best site to buy tickets.

  11. Visa for Japan: GET!

Now, all I have to do is get my new phone Thursday (iPhone 3GS 8 gig, which, in a wonderfully supreme act of irony, will be the cheapest option for going abroad), get some $ converted to yen and put a travel alert on my account (and also apply for a credit card), and figure out, you know, where I'm living, and I'll be ready to ship out at the end of the month.

(Except for packing. And ohdeargod I don't feel anywhere near ready.)

    That is very cool.

  12. All I carry around for my job is my macbook, power cord, usb drives and vga adapter. But meh, Ill go get the back pack again and see.

That's already more than I usually carry, and I still prefer the backpack.

Ended up getting a Case Logic bag for 30 bucks at frys, I love it. Its so small, but I cant fit so much in there and not create any bulges. Its crazy.

  13. Judge strikes down California's ban on same-sex marriage

    By the CNN Wire Staff

    August 4, 2010 6:59 p.m. EDT

(CNN) -- A federal judge in California on Wednesday overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage, saying the voter-approved rule violates the constitutional rights of gays and lesbians.

The 136-page decision, issued by Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker in San Francisco, is an initial step in what will likely be a lengthy legal fight over California's Proposition 8, which defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

At stake in the trial was whether California's ban on same-sex marriage violated the constitutional rights to equal protection and due process of two gay couples that want to marry.

The case was watched closely by both supporters and opponents of same-sex marriage, as many say it is likely to wind its way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. If it does, the case could end in a landmark decision on whether people in the United States are allowed to marry people of the same sex.

"Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license," Walker wrote in his decision. "Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples."

He also granted supporters of Proposition 8 a stay, which will essentially stop his ruling from taking immediate effect. They had argued, prior to his ruling, that same-sex marriages would be performed soon after his decision and could be complicated by rulings and appeals further down the legal road.

Supporters of same-sex marriage who gathered outside the San Francisco courthouse cheered the judge's decision. They waved flags and carried signs that read, "We all deserve the freedom to marry." Rallies were planned for later in the day.

"We are thrilled with today's ruling, which affirms that the protections enshrined in our U.S. Constitution apply to all Americans and that our dream of equality and freedom deserves protection," said Geoff Kors, executive director for Equality California.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger also welcomed the ruling.

"For the hundreds of thousands of Californians in gay and lesbian households who are managing their day-to-day lives, this decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves," he said in a statement. "Today's decision is by no means California's first milestone, nor our last, on America's road to equality and freedom for all people."

Kristin Perry and Sandy Stier, along with Jeffrey Zarrillo and Paul Katami, are the two couples at the heart of the case, which if appealed would go next to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals before possibly heading to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Opponents of same-sex marriage have said their best bet lies with higher courts.

"Big surprise! We expected nothing different from Judge Vaughn Walker, after the biased way he conducted this trial," said Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage. "With a stroke of his pen, Judge Walker has overruled the votes and values of 7 million Californians who voted for marriage as one man and one woman."

Proposition 8 is part of a long line of seesaw rulings, court cases, debates and protests in California over the hotly debated issue of same-sex marriage. It passed with some 52 percent of the vote in November 2008.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in five U.S. states and in the District of Colombia. Civil unions are permitted in New Jersey.

A step in the right direction but a long battle to come. Still, this can go long enough and if it does hit the Supreme Court, this could be our generations Roe V. Wade.

Epic. Fucking. Win. And on the birthday of my gay marriage hatting friend who pissed me off recently. Universe, You win again.

  14. My boss just offered me three days down the office just occupying it. Don't even have to answer the phones, they'll be on divert, just paid occupancy. I've got my new portable hard drive, two seasons of Torchwood and the second season of Flight of the Conchords to keep me occupied, plus tomorrow I'll have NXT and ROH. Oh, and I'll be able to use the chance to drop my invoice for the weekend to the guys next door, who I also work for. Plus I've got several books from my birthday I'm looking forward to diving into.

    Sweet.

Wait, So what is the point of "Paid Occupancy"?
