  1. There's a new trailer

    https://youtu.be/0csVdLbDMO4

love this shot, under the spoiler cut.

    daleks_zpsjifmannj.jpg

    So that's -

    New Series Daleks,

the Dalek Supreme from Stolen Earth,

60's Daleks (the blue balled ones),

a 60's style supreme dalek with the black head,

i think that's an 80's (Resurrection) Dalek at the left there (black dalek, black balls),

and hiding at the back...The Special Weapons Dalek

hopefully unlike Asylum of the Daleks, we'll get to see plenty of different daleks in action in the episode

  2. To be honest though I did find the inclusion of the Promised Land subplot to have made the overarching storyline a bit incessant and relentless. I thought of how Dan and Mike discussed Bad Wolf or Torchwood in BOTI and how those plot threads were constantly referenced with little subtlety, and I'm seeing similar things in this season thus far.

The only thing I'll say in it's favour is at least this running thread, is actually integrated into the plots, and the Doctor is aware of it from early on. Previous threads like Bad Wolf and Torchwood were so unsubtlely included, that it often felt shoehorned in, and yet the Doctor was unaware of it.

  3. Not sure how I felt about that episode

it was fun, and I enjoyed the relationship between Robin and the Doctor..but yet another "robots trying to fix their ship so they can get to the promised land" story..didn't we just do that 2 episodes ago. Still, Clara continues to improve.

Also did everyone spot the past Doctor cameo?

  4. What does everyone think about the xmas episode teaser?

Does it seem like they are going to address the silence will fall thing?

Why would he go back to Trenzalore after seeing what he's seen?

The impression I got was that it was a surprise to the doctor that the planet he was in was called Trenzelore, so he didn't go there on purpose.

  5. Well, "An Adventure in time and space" was absolutely fantastic. So moving and well done. David Bradley was brilliant.

I'll have to watch it again to pick up all the references I missed first time round. spotted a couple of cameos

Anneke Wills and Jean Marsh (Polly and Sara Kingdom) in the party scene.

I also didn't realise till the end credits that the guy who wanted to kill Doctor Who was played by the Actor who played Marco Polo.

  6. Here's the BBC America press release about the cinema screening

  7. It's just occurred to me to check, but if we take it that the reports are true, it now means that more Troughton episodes from his era exist, than are missing now.

Before this find there were 57 eps existing, 62 missing

    Now it's 66 existing, 53 missing

I can't wait to see them, just to see all the visual stuff that Troughton put in..there's so many moments in existing episodes where you see him adding to a scene just through his body language (my favourite is on the last episode of the invasion, when after running away from the cybermen he's sitting on the ground when the photographer starts taking pics of him and he preens and poses for her)

  8. Per a reporter who did not sign an NDA, the announced episodes found were all five missing episodes from the Enemy of the World (Pat Troughton Vs. Evil Pat Troughton Who Sounds Like Tony Montana) and four episodes from The Web of Fear (Yeti/Great Intelligence in the Underground, first appearance of the Brig) with possibly more to come.

That seems to be the rumours I'm hearing, but some of those are coming from the Facebook page of author Lance Parkin (https://m.facebook.com/lance.parkin?id=100001275510591&_rdr) who later in the comments says he wasn't there but has heard that info from twitter.

I've also heard a few murmours about Marco Polo, but can't find any source for that.

Until the press release, or a report from someone who was definitely there, I'm gonna take everything with a pinch of salt :)

  9. Why not just publicise the press conference? This is irritating.

Indeed. I assume it has something to do with the release partner (iTunes or whoever) needing whatever the hell it is they need.

To quote a post from another forum -

Just to play devil's advocate (I work in media relations) the midnight embargo is an important tool to maxmise publicity.

It means that the daily papers on Friday won't feel 'scooped' by Thursday's TV/Radio news programmes and online news websites and so will give the story a much higher profile in their pages. It also means the story will be higher up the running order for breakfast TV and radio bulletins on Friday morning (breakfast radio, in particular, gets massive listening figures compared to the rest of the day).

So while it is annoying, it will mean the story will get bigger coverage in Friday's papers and be heard by peak radio audiences Friday morning too. So the midnight embargo actually gives the story more gravitas which - in some ways - is a good thing.

I do believe it's a bit outdated in this day and age though. It's not new though, the British press have always used midnight as a time for press embargoes

  10. A few journalists have tweeted that the press conference has finished. Gonna be a long wait till midnight (although it may be earlier because both BBC News and Sky News have slots where they review the next days papers at 10:30 tonight)

Of course it wouldn't surprise me if the news leaked even earlier

  11. It'll be simulcast in 75 countries which is pretty mind boggling.

Europe: Germany (Fox), Finland (YLE), Poland (BBC Entertainment), Russia (Karousel and NKS)

North America: USA (BBC America), Canada (Space)

Latin America (BBC Entertainment and BBC HD): Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

Africa (BBC Entertainment): Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde Islands, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania & Zanzibar, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

    Australia (ABC)

Asia (on BBC Entertainment): Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand

  12. He's the first Oscar winner to play the Doctor (admitedly, his Oscar was for Directing a short film, not acting :D).

He's also a good friend with Craig Ferguson (they were in a band together when they were young). Given that, plus how much of a fan of Who Craig is, I can imagine him appearing on his show again to promote the show (although i doubt they'll discuss taking Acid together again, like they did last time he was on :D).

This announcement has certainly given me a shot in the arm regarding DW. As a lifelong fan since the Davison years, i've been feeling these past few months a bit jaded about the show (As most fans feel at some point or another i'm sure) but i feel very enthusiastic again.
